Mayor’s Message It is my pleasure to have the opportunity to again welcome everyone to the Drayton Mapleton Fair. This is a great occasion for our vast agricultural community to display their commodities to their urban neighbors. This too, reminds our urban folks how fortunate we are to live in the heart of a prime agri community so we have some appreciation for the high quality, and the low cost of the food provided for us. Of course, the fair also provides entertainment for the people of all ages with a horse show, demolition derby, tractor pull, midway etc. I encourage everyone to take the time to attend the fair and enjoy its many interesting and entertaining exhibits. 2009 Chairpersons

The board of directors and myself are once again proud to bring you the Drayton Fair. This year marks our 153rd anniversary and we have many new activities for everyone to participate in. Come on out and listen to our daily entertainment brought to you by various musicians in the Mapleton area. If you have lots of energy to burn off then the Farmers Olympics is what you need. Of course we still have the truck and tractor pull, demolition derby, livestock shows and many other activities that you can participate in. It is very important that we recognize all the sponsors that make this fair a reality. When you look through the fair book you will notice all the sponsors, advertisers and the volunteers that make this possible. Please take your time and thank these businesses and individuals for their contribution. I would like to personally invite you, and all your friends to Drayton Fair this year. Proof of at least one million dollars liability insurance must be shown by all livestock exhibitors and event participants. 1. All exhibitors, spectators and participants must pay admission - a wrist band will be issued. Children 12 & under are Free 2. All exhibits, except livestock, will be judged on the first day of the show and must be entered with the Secretary and on the grounds between 6:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Thursday, or 8:30 - 11:00 a.m. Friday. Judging will start at 12:00 p.m. Friday. All livestock must be entered with the Secretary, and on the grounds before 10:00 a.m. the day of showing and judging to start at 11:00 a.m. unless otherwise stated. 3. While the Directors will take every possible precaution under the circumstances to secure safety of articles sent to the exhibition, the owners must take the responsibility and the risk of exhibiting and should any article be accidentally injured, lost or stolen, the Directors will give all the assistance in their powers towards recovery but will not make any payments for the value thereof. 4. Persons exhibiting articles not their own and not in accordance with these rules, shall forfeit all prizes. 5. All stock must be bonafide property of exhibitor at time of entry to entitle him to a premium and in all grains, roots, fruits and dairy, produce must be the property of the exhibitor, the growth of the most recent crop year, and the production of the present farm or holding. 6. All articles included in the Homecraft Division must be the production of the house exhibiting it and the director in charge of Division has the authority to call for an affidavit. 7. A piece of each entry will be kept on show and the remaining pie, cake, etc., will be allowed to be taken home at 4:30 p.m. Friday, or when judging is completed. 8. In all exhibits re: women's, junior and elementary school divisions, only one entry per class. 9. Root vegetables are: beets, carrots, parsnips, turnips, rutabagas, radishes and sugar beets. Vegetables should be cleaned and uniform in size and shape.

Brood mares must be accompanied by their foals or satisfactory proof furnished that they have suckled a foal during the present season. 18. No exhibitors shall be allowed to make more than two entries in any class in any section, pertaining to livestock only. For all other classes, one entry per person per class. 19. All livestock must be shown in the judging ring in order to be awarded prize money. 20. No animals shall be removed from the show grounds until 3:00 p.m. without permission. All stock, produce or other articles exhibited are at risk of the owner and bulls must be secured by the proper rings to prevent mischief. To accommodate exhibitors at a distance the Secretary will receive entries by mail addressed to: Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society Box 255, Drayton, Ont. N0G 1P0 SPECIAL NOTE In case of bad or unfavorable weather, or other reasons causing the receipts to fall short of paying expenses, a proportionate amount, exclusive of membership will be deducted from such prizes, to enable Directors to balance the amounts collected, and not leave the whole sum to be a debt to bear heavily on the Society and thus impair its usefulness. PRIVACY OF INFORMATION POLICY

10. Membership fee is $10.00 11. The Society will not be responsible for any loss, damage or accident occurring to any property on the grounds during the fair. 12. In the case of an error in the printing of the prize list, the Directors have the power to rectify the same. 13. No prize will be paid until the books are properly made up, and all complaints, if any, heard and decided by the Directors. 14. No person shall be allowed to go near the judges during their

Ambassador of the Fair Competition Who will be the next Ambassador of the Fair? Competition Date: Wednesday, August 5, 2009 Get your nominations in NOW!!! Contestants, male or female must be 17 years of age or over by August 1, 2009.

Must be a resident of Mapleton Township or surrounding area.

Winner will represent the Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society at the August CNE Ambassador of the Fairs Contest and also the annual convention of the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (expenses will be covered by Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society).

Contestants will be judged on their interview and speech, community knowledge and involvement, personality, appearance, deportment and presentation.

Contestants will be required to give a three-minute speech on agriculture, agricultural societies or some aspect of the Drayton Fair.

Contestants are expected to attend all fair dates and the Ambassador is expected to represent the Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society at various functions in the community.

Previous Ambassadors of the fair are ineligible to run in subsequent competitions.

A bursary of $250.00 will be awarded to the Ambassador donated by the Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society.
