President's Message On behalf of the Wellington County Plowmen’s Association, I would like to welcome all plowmen and spectators attending this years’ plowing match being held at the farm of one of our directors, Art Davis. We’ve reached an exciting milestone, with this year being the 75th year we have hosted this historical tradition. We are all aware times are changing, so we must work hard to continue to preserve the plowing traditions for future generations. The continued participation by the many plowmen who compete at our event helps to achieve this goal. Welcome to our 2018 Queen of the Furrow Katrina Martin and our Wellington County Princess Tate Driscoll. It’s exciting to see the energy and skills both ladies possess and use to benefit our Association. Thanks to the 2017 Queen Kayla Scott and 2017 Princess Jade Ritter, who did a fantastic job representing all Plowmen and our Association. I have no doubt they will succeed in any future endeavours.
Walter Trachsel PRESIDENT
Again, as last year, we are actively recruiting new members. Get involved, I can assure you will find it rewarding. Special thanks to Carol Day, as our Secretary/Treasurer she is the constant that keeps our Association functioning. Thanks to our sponsors, our members and the plowmen, who take part in our county event. You all contribute to the success of the Wellington County Plowmen’s Association.
Happy Plowing, Walter Trachsel

Queen of the Furrow I would like to welcome everyone to the 2018 Wellington County Plowing Match! It has been my honor to represent our county as the 2017-2018 Wellington County Queen of the Furrow. Reflecting on an incredible year, I am truly grateful for this rewarding experience that has allowed me to further develop a loyal heart and serving hands within communities. As a young woman in agriculture, I will forever cherish the unforgettable opportunity to be involved with community events, interact with friendly faces, but ultimately to be able to shine my light, share my passion and be an advocate for agriculture.
Katrina Martin WELLINGTON COUNTY QUEEN OF THE FURROW 2017-2018
I had the privilege of representing the Wellington County Plowman’s Association at a variety of events including the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, Elora, Drayton, Fergus and Alma Christmas parades, Home and Farm Safety Association Pancake Breakfast, farm shows, Pizza Perfect, the Ontario Plowman’s Association Convention and many more across the county. Throughout this journey I have not only established life long skills, but friendships and mentors. This role has helped shape me as a young woman and future leader in the agricultural industry. I would like to share my appreciation to all the members of the Wellington County Plowman’s Association for your generous support and encouragement to me this past year. It has been a privilege working along side such a passionate group of people who dedicate much time and effort towards preserving the art of plowing, promoting local heritage and putting on a successful plowing match year after year. Special thanks to Katherine and Cassandra and many past queens for your guidance and advise along the way. Finally, to my family and friends, thank you for keeping my head up, encouraging me to smile and be who I am on this remarkable journey. My year would not have been the same without the support of each one who played a special part in making this year a success. I look forward to representing Wellington County at this year’s local plowing match and the 2018 International Plowing Match in Chatham-Kent County. Hope to see everyone there!

Princess of the Furrow Hello! My name is Tate Driscoll, and I am proud to represent the Wellington County Plowmens association as the 2017/2018 Princess of the furrow! I would like to welcome you all to the Wellington County Plowing Match, and wish all of the competitors the best of luck. It has been an honour to represent Wellington County at various events including Santa Clause Parades, Farm Safety Events, the Drayton Farm Show, and many more. Throughout the past year I have met several remarkable people who have shaped me into the ambassador of agriculture I am today. Promoting young women in agriculture has been always been my passion, and through my role as Princess of the Furrow, I have been given the opportunity to promote women and agriculture, as well as learn from women leading the industry. I would like to thank all the members of the Wellington County Plowmans Association for all of their hard work and dedication that keeps an important tradition alive. It has been a pleasure working with all of you this year! A special thanks to Katherine and Cassandra for their guidance along the way. Finally, thank you to my family, for encouraging me to take the challenge with a smile on my face, and to always chase my dreams. Thank you all for your dedication, and support, my year would not have been the same without you. I look forward to representing Wellington County at the IPM in Chatham-Kent. I hope to see everyone there!

2017 Plowing Match
ellington County’s Branch match was held on the farm of Roger and Susan Harrop on August 17, 2017. We had 34 assorted competitors including 3 single furrows, 6 horse teams, 14 antiques, novice beginners, 2 furrows, 3 furrows an MP, and a world class champion come out to plow in the mud with Mother Nature. Yep that’s right, we had what was probably our rainiest match ever. Thank god it wasn’t the IPM in 2016 to get it! Our plowers plowed in record time enabling all hands on deck to pack up and get out of the field as it started to really come down at 3pm. The only vehicle to
have problems getting out was director Art Davis with his rig. It took an old antique display tractor 20 minutes to yank his truck and trailer onto the road. Whew! Thank you to all the competitors, our awesome judges Marie Krauter, Keith Davenport, and Craig Cameron. Thank you to guest vip plowers, our queen contestants and special thank you to our Queen Kayla Scott and Princess Jade Ritter for your help all day. Best wishes to everyone in the coming year for both branch matches and for IPM 2018 in Chatham!
