Chamber of Commerce Letter from the Arthur & District Chamber of Commerce The Arthur & District Chamber of Commerce and the Mount Forest District Chamber of Commerce would like to present the 2016-2017 Wellington North Guide. Over the course of the year, volunteers are hard at work to create the best guide for both our community members and friends from outside Wellington North. The guide is filled with information about the wide variety of services and products available throughout Wellington North, special events, recreation and community services. North Wellington has a vibe that is like no other. The small town roots, close knit communities and all the offerings of larger urban communities make this the perfect place to live, work and play. North Wellington maintains the lost social art that is so hard to come by nowadays and you see it in every business, organization, sports activity and social event. From large corporations to small business, we strive to take the time for any and all of ours.

With the decline of the Canadian dollar this is a great time to see what we have to offer. So often we look south of the border for that next getaway, shopping spree or a different experience away from the daily grind. But sometimes we need to stop, breathe and take in all of the extraordinary things we have readily available to us here in our own backyard. The Town of Minto is excited to host, alongside the County of Wellington, the 2016 International Plowing Match (IPM). The theme “A fresh taste of farming” will highlight the farming community that calls Minto home. Although this is an enterprise that spans throughout the county, the Town of Minto is honoured to be the home of the host site for the 2016 IPM, which takes place at the homestead of Earl and Anne Schneider located on County Road 109 south east of Harriston. The IPM is a massive event which is being managed by a large, highly skilled group of volunteers. the Plowing Match has the potential to bring more than 80,000 visitors to the area, which can have an enormous economic impact on our community as a whole. With this increase of visitors for the Match, our town and communities have the chance to highlight and promote themselves, allowing our visitors to see why Minto is “Where your family belongs”. The town of Minto is working hard to ensure that the heritage of all of Minto’s communities Palmerston, Harriston, Clifford, Drew and Minto Township are well represented. The Economic Development Department is focusing its efforts to promote our local businesses and ensure that visitors shop local, as Minto has many great retail shops, restaurants and attractions for visitors to explore during their stay.

Recreation and Leisure A wide variety of recreational opportunities are available within the Township. The Arthur & Area Community Centre contains a 185’ x 85’ ice surface, a Lower Hall with a licenced capacity of 500 and an Upper Hall with a capacity of 160. The Mount Forest & District Sports Complex which opened in 2008 contains an NHL size ice surface, walking track and numerous rental rooms. The Community Hall has a licenced capacity of 430 people and the Leisure Hall can hold 120. Various meeting rooms are available to fit 35 to 95 people.

Both Arthur and Mount Forest have excellent curling clubs, large outdoor swimming pool facilities, lawn bowling clubs, snowmobile clubs, baseball diamonds, soccer pitches and children’s playgrounds.
