Logan Inn New Hope
The view of the Delaware River isn’t the only thing that will take your breath away at The Black Bass Hotel & Restaurant. This Lumberville landmark has become associated with many different ghostly legends. The structure became a makeshift morgue in the 1800’s for Delaware Canal builders that died of disease or exhaustion. Today, you can dine on one of the old stone operating tables! Request it, if you dare, as you enjoy Swordfish with Roasted Asparagus Salad, or the restaurant’s signature dish, Charleston Meeting Street Crab. Black Bass Hotel & Restaurant Lumberville
Logan Inn New Hope
The Continental Tavern in Yardley serves sinfully delicious food and drinks along with tales of its haunted history. The pub, which was established in 1864, served as a stop along the Underground Railroad and also bore witness to two murders within its lifetime. The spiritual presences are strong here and the staff will casually share spine-tingling reports of the paranormal. Guests come for their awardwinning burgers, but stay to hear more about the lore! Many people report feeling a bizarre presence while at the Logan Inn. This remarkable inn and restaurant in New Hope has survived the Revolutionary and Civil Wars but is reportedly haunted by many soldiers who did not. The most notoriously haunted part of the inn is Room 6, “Emily’s Room,” the alleged mother of a previous owner. Perhaps you will meet her at one of the inn’s monthly ‘Message From Beyond’ three-course dinners featuring a spiritual medium! A 250-year-old Victorian mansion primarily used for weddings, the Pen Ryn Estate in Bensalem, is full of ghostly tales. The house was once owned by a British-supporting family during the Revolution, but the son of the family, Robert, was said to have fallen in love with a woman who opposed British rule. This infuriated his father, who promptly forbade them from seeing each other. As legend has it, Robert and his lover are said to haunt the grounds, making ghostly appearances around the fall and winter seasons. Beware of any spooky sights if you book your annual holiday party here (and we’re not talking about your crazy uncle!). Their Holiday Banquet Package highlights an extensive menu with Carving Station and Sushi Station options your family will love. FALL/WINTER 2018 | 11
The grounds on which the 1870 Wedgwood Inn of New Hope were built upon made history as a camping ground for George Washington before the famous Delaware River crossing. Later on, the Inn was a stop on the Underground Railroad. The most well-known phantom at the Inn now is that of a young slave girl named Sarah. Not much is known regarding how Sarah died, but she reportedly stayed at this New Hope establishment en route. She is said to appear to other young girls to tell them her story. The Inn at Phillip’s Mill in New Hope is a historic stone barn reminiscent of a French chateau perfect for a romantic dinner by the fire. Previous patrons must envy the attractive French menu — each one sounds like the pièce de résistance! People have felt the presence of a stately, upper-class woman brushing past them on the stairs. Sometimes people say they have seen this spectral lady of the house, doting a long, narrow-waisted, high-collared dress, in the second-floor hallways, or sitting in the rocking chair! " Stop 4: Drinks at Mad Princes Brewing "
Who doesn’t love a glass of beer to kick off evening festivities? If you’re indecisive like me, a flight is the best way to go. Odds are you’ve never had a beer like their Spruce Saison, Blackberry Sour or Citrus Cream Ale — but you’ll be happy you did once you come here.
" Stop 5: Dinner at Baci Ristorante "
The Trenette Alla Vecchia Maniera features perfectly cooked, homemade trenette with prosciutto, peas and mushrooms in a light cream sauce. Somehow, Baci Ristorante in Buckinham makes this dish packed full of flavor and happiness while remaining light and not over-filling. Must be magic.

Kimberly Scola from Factory Girl Bakes
Kimberly Scola’s passion for local, farm-fresh ingredients has helped her create some of Bucks County’s most delicious pastries and desserts. The boutique bakery owner spoke with us about how her confectioneries found their home in New Hope…
How did you get your start in baking? I was fortunate to grow up in a household where my mom had us in the kitchen doing baking projects all of the time. It instilled in me an early love of baking and of sharing baked goods with others. This passion was a constant in my life, and I baked my way through several cookbooks, but I never went to school for it or had any professional training!
Why was Bucks County the perfect place for Factory Girl Bake Shop? Since moving to this area, I’ve discovered a terrific bunch of like-minded folks — foodies who have relocated to this area to be closer to where their food is grown and produced. I originally moved here from New York City for that reason. We’re close to the orchards and the small, independently-owned organic farms. I find that so many of my customers, like myself, appreciate interesting food made with care and thought.
Where do you get your ingredients for your recipes? I love being connected to the seasons and since Bucks County is so rich with orchards and farms, it’s very important to me to keep that connection in my baked goods. I keep a calendar tracking each of the various seasonal crops so that I can plan my menus accordingly. With farms like Solebury Orchards and Manoff Market Farm just down the road, I make frequent trips to keep our kitchen stocked with a variety of fresh produce.
What are your favorite fall and winter holiday treats to create? I had opened Factory Girl just a month before Thanksgiving and somehow already had enough buzz that we had more orders for pies than I knew what to do with! I’d made pies before, but it wasn’t really my thing — pies were my friend Sarah’s thing, so she came to help out. She developed a pie that we call the “Country Bumpkin” — a hybrid of a pumpkin pie and a pecan pie, heavily spiked with bourbon, and it’s quickly become a Thanksgiving classic at Factory Girl.
