“It’s almost embarrassing to receive an award for doing something that I love so much,” says Woody Moore, Wellspring Certified Peer Specialist. “Woody works tirelessly to engage those who are homeless and most vulnerable, as well as veterans,” commends Patrick Rhodes, Wellspring’s Director of Programs. Affirmation of Woody’s dedication and effectiveness came recently when he was bestowed the Billy Cox/Victoria Scott Self-Advocacy Award by the State of Kentucky’s Protection & Advocacy Program for Individuals with Mental Illness. Rhodes explains, “Woody epitomizes the legacies of Billy & Victoria: he is both a consumer and a self-advocate who is open-minded and accepting of all, he honestly shares his diagnosis, and actively works to advance the rights of persons with disabilities. We are very proud to see him honored for all of his achievements and contributions.”

We Journey on Mended Wings - Highlights Wellspring Derby Preview Party

Tonia presented the first Bid For Recovery donor a long-stremmed rose.

The room darkened and nearly 500 guests sat mesmerized as they witnessed the stories of clients whose lives have been changed - and even saved, as they attest, by Wellspring’s Crisis Stabilization Program. Tonia shared how she hobbled into the CSU on crutches, disoriented and broken. “They saved my life,” she beams. Bruce credits the CSU with restoring his dignity and Liz asserts that her son’s recovery started as a result of a CSU experience. The film, sponsored by Passport Health Plan, mobilized guests to making a record breaking level of Bid for Recovery gifts and helped raise over $116,000 in support for Wellspring’s programs.

VOLUNTEERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE During the Mayor’s Give a Day campaign 38 volunteers joined forces to help clean up Wellspring properties. 12 volunteers from Southern Baptist Seminary took up gardening tools at both Crisis Stabilization Units and made a lovely job of the landscaping, while another 26 tackled the shrubbery at several supportive housing sites. A huge thanks to the following companies and individuals who were so generous to give their time: The Drain Family, Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau, Oasis Solutions Group, So Fresh And So Clean, Southern Baptist Seminary, The Glenview Trust Company, and Metro United Way.

The Derby Preview Party at Churchill Downs Millionaires Row was a hit, fabulous food, wonderful entertainment by Appalatin, a great silent auction, incredible live auction and generous guests who didn’t hold back when making Bid for Recovery gifts. We look forward to seeing you next year, April 26, 2016 on Millionaires Row!

On May 25th, the whole Wellspring family came together over burgers and brats at Crescent Court. The annual BBQ is always a highlight for many of Wellspring’s clients, “It was so nice to see so many of our clients mingling and truly happy,” said Patrick Rhodes, Director of Programs. This year the weathermen did us proud, with a perfect summer’s day to enjoy great company and food.

A highlight of the program was a field trip to the Food Literacy Project at Oxmoor Farms, where they had “hands on” experiences with planting vegetables, making butter and baking bread, and learning the benefits of farm to table food.

MONTHLY WISHLIST JUNE: First Aid Kits, bandages, ointments, etc. JULY: Laundry Items: detergent, fabric softener/ dryer sheets, laundry baskets, laundry hampers.
