From over 90 agencies in our Give Local Louisville assigned category, Wellspring finished in the top 27! Considering that over 600 agencies participated in the event, we are extraordinarily proud of this achievement. In all, 125 donors contributed to help Wellspring raise over $25,690 through Give Local Louisville Day. Across the community, $4.15M was raised and 21,156 donations were made via the 24-hour event. “We are blown away by the number of donations that were made on September 15th,” Susan Barry, president and CEO of Community Foundation of Louisville Inc., said in a news release. “For the third year in a row, we have seen this force for good grow in our community. When we come together with gifts big and small, we can make a major impact on our community.”

“To be competitive in today’s healthcare arena and offer the very best quality care, this is an essential step for us to take,” says Wellspring CEO, Kathy Dobbins. Utilization of the Electronic Health Record Program (EHR) is set for mid-November. Final design elements and testing of all aspects of the system are underway for a seamless implementation. “The EHR system brings myriad advantages,” offers Dobbins. “Increased efficiencies across the agency, better tracking of quality metrics, assuring accurate charting and consistency in client treatment, and having the advantage of web-based access are just a few of the benefits we anticipate,” Dobbins adds. grateful for grants The William E. Barth Foundation funded the purchase of new furniture for the Broadway Program’s Community Room; this highly-utilized space assures the support clients need to live with stability in their community-based apartments. A grant from The Paradis Foundation will help repair the historic columns at the front of Wellspring’s Ardery House and replace and refresh the tiles at the home’s main entrance. This 100+ year-old house is the site of Wellspring’s very first program, which opened in 1982. Continued on Page 2

EHR continued “This has been about a two-year undertaking in all,” explains Dobbins. “We are grateful for the support that made it possible, and excited about having the technology to move the agency forward.” The James Graham Brown Foundation provided the major funding that allowed Wellspring to procure a quality system, and Brown-Forman stepped up to support implementation and additional training costs.

home goods sale: Two Chicks & Company and Spalding University Make it Happen!

Wellspring Walks with NAMI The National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) Step Forward for Mental Health Walk was held on Saturday, August 13th at the Waterfront Park. It raised nearly $90,000 for NAMI and Wellspring was a big part of it! In addition to being an event sponsor we had a team of nearly 40 people comprised of staff, clients and supporters and we raised $1,503!! For the second year in a row, we won the Golden Shoe Award for the top fundraiser for a non-corporate team! We also had an informational table at the walk. In spite of the hot, blustery day, everyone who showed up had a great time! We were even treated to snow cones afterward! Way to go Wellspring!!

Table after table displayed all manner of household goods, jewelry, books, and art when the doors to the Third Annual Home Goods Sale opened. Already, Wellspring clients were waiting to snare the ultimate in bargains. Thanks to Two Chicks & Company, the “sale” was well-provisioned with all the inventory that remained after their annual “Barnyard Sale.” Karen Mayes and Barbara Sparrow of Two Chicks & Company said “We’re so happy to do this - it’s Two Chicks’ way of giving back to the community. We appreciate the partnership that has developed between Two Chicks and Wellspring over the past several years.” Their items, combined with contributions of housewares from a number of Wellspring supporters, offered a true “something for everyone” shopping opportunity. “It is terrific that we can make this a shopping experience, not a giveaway event,” event explains Patrick Rhodes, Wellspring’s Director of Programs. He adds “Getting the dignity of shopping for themselves is an opportunity for clients’ personal growth and helps build life skills. Making choices and managing financial resources are important for all of us.” To make sure that the shopping is within reach of all of Wellspring’s clients, any client who needs a bit of financial assistance can receive a $1.00 “grant” to help them out a bit. And, with all items priced at just a quarter, everyone gets a chance to purchase things that would otherwise never be affordable under the limited incomes most Wellspring clients wrestle with. Spalding University generously hosts the event each year. “It is not only part of our mission, but our passion as a university to serve, especially those within the SoBro neighborhood we are so proud to be a part of,” comments Rick Barney, Chief Marketing Officer - Marketing and Public Relations. Visit Wellspring’s website for more photos and information about the event.

The Emma L. Snyder Foundation funded the Crescent Court Program’s annual weekend outing to a Kentucky State Park; this trip is a highlight of the year for the program’s three participants. Wellspring’s Amity Apartments site will benefit from extensive refurbishment, thanks to The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. The proposal requested assistance with replacing vinyl siding, gutter repairs, and refreshing the building’s outdoor decking.

Concord Program at the state fair The women from the Concord Program traveled to the Kentucky State Fair in August to view their artwork and spent time enjoying the Fair! The Concord Progran participants dedicated months to prepare and submit art to the State Fair. All Concord clients contributed to the idea, design, presentation and development of the theme: “Along with the sunshine, there’s gonna be a little rain sometimes.” They produced one large canvas and all received individual honorable mention ribbons!

Meet Abigail, our newest “donor in training!” Her mother is part of the Wellspring team, and when Abigail found out about the Home Goods Sale and all the good it would do for Wellspring’s clients, she made a donation to help out, too. Abigail is proof positive that no gift is too small to make a difference - and donors can’t be too small, either!
