201 8 It ’s hard to belie ve that Bombtr ac k is tur ning five years old , wel l I guess what the y say is tr ue, time flies when you’re having fun. As the br and first began with a f ocus on single speed and fixed gear freest y le bikes, it real l y f eels like things have come a long way in that time. The bikes have cer tainl y got more gears now, and quite a lot more complic ated, but our passion to produce bikes that we ’d lo ve to r ide and own oursel ves remains the goal. 2018 marks some signific ant de velopments in our r ange of bikes, perhaps the proudest of whic h is final l y releasing a women’s specific, steel fr amed road and CX bike. Mo ving from conversations, to dr awing boards these bikes have been in the works f or some time. Building on what we have lear ned o ver the past f e w years we are thr il led to see them final l y released, and c an’t wait to see them put into action.

A R I S E The Ar ise was one of the first models f or Bombtr ac k, and since the ver y first version it has al way s been the most popular in the r ange. O ver the years the Ar ise has de veloped off spr ing, eac h more tailored in a specific direction, yet al way s retaining that fundamental ‘multi-purpose ’ c har acter istic. Ne w f or 2018 the Ar ise 1 br ings things bac k to where it al l star ted, a simple steel single speed, yet off er ing scope f or customisation. The Ar ise 2 is the most recog niz able bike of recent years, now ful l y matured and more than c apable from dail y tasks to weekend adventures. Featur ing our ver y own invest-c ast f ork crown, sliding dropouts and the option f or 650B tires, making it undoubted l y the most versatile bike in the r ange. Also ne w to the Ar ise famil y is the Tour, a long dis tance tourer ful l y equipped with lights, r ac ks and f enders al l set f or an adventure.
5
The Ar ise 1 stay s faithful to the philosophy of keep it simple, and keep it single-speed. Built around a ful l cr mo fr ame with a double-butted front tr iangle and tapered seat and c hain stay s. Al l the c able routing pro visions are in place f or geared conversion, and c lear ance is available f or up to a pro-compact c hainset. Utilising a versatile geometr y means any task from commuting to CX r acing are al l wel l within the scope of this adaptable mac hine.

H O O K The Hook r ange has come a long way from the or iginal bike of 2015. O r iginal l y de veloped as a steel CX and gr avel bike from whic h now multi ple var iations have spawned. The Hook 1 remains c losest to the or iginal bike, with o versiz ed tubes welded into a multi-pur pose geometr y. The Hook 2 advanced things with the addition of thr u axles and utilizing the mountain bike der ived 1x dr ivetr ain from SRAM, and upgr aded tubing cour tesy of Columbus. Ne w f or 2018 the Hook WMN has been built from the ground up with women’s specific ergonomics in mind pro viding an opti miz ed sizing and component selection to off er a bike that fits like a glo ve. The Hook EXT took the Hook r ange a step fur ther, and pro ved to be a huge hit with r iders looking f or bigger tires in a gr avel bike pac kage. Ne w f or 2018 is a ful l c ar bon fiber version off er ing the same tire c learances, pro ven SRAM Rival-1 dr ivetr ain and anything c age ready. Gr avel r iding just got lighter!

As the c losest relative to the or iginal Hook, the Hook 1 is real l y where it al l star ts. T E M P E S T The Tempest r ange has been tr ansf or med f or 2018. S tr iking gr aphics, f ocused geometr y and the addition of a c ar bon and women’s specific model reflect the essence of moder n road c y c ling. Although utilizing steel f or it ’s fr ame, the Tempest is tr ul y a contempor ar y road bike. L ooking c losel y, the tapered head tube, thr u-axles and flat mount disc br akes are al l incor por ated into this tr ue mac hine of today. Now exc lusivel y in disc br ake f or m, the Tem pest has been shar pened with ne w cr iter ium der ived geometr y, ref ocused and more aggressive. Carr y ing on this repur posing, the Tempest WMN br ings the c lassic-meets-moder n into a women’s specific version. Utilising components and adjusted geometr y to ensure the most nat ur al r ide and instinctive f eel. The Tempest-C c arr ies the spir it of its steel siblings into a tr ul y futur istic f or m. More akin to a sci-fi spaceship than a bike, this is one t wo-wheeled sculpture demanding c loser inspection and a tur n of the pedals.

The Tempest has al way s flown the flag f or steel road bikes, but from its first inception this bike was far from ‘tr aditional ’. The Columbus double butted tubing is selected in diameters to produce an ultr a stiff fr ame that c an retain a super b r ide thanks to the inherent dampening c har acter istics of the mater ial. Coming equipped with S himano’s 105 groupset and DT S wiss P1800 wheelset the Tempest year ns f or more than a c af é r ide!

The Tempest WMN is a br and ne w model f or 2018. Built from Columbus Cromor tubing with c areful l y selected profiles to br ing together a fr ame whic h is stiff and responsive, yet light and easy to place where you want it. This base inspires confidence in r iding fast, holding tighter lines through cor ners and putting the power down when needed. The S himano 105 groupset pro vides smooth eff or tless shif ting and the DT S wiss P1800 wheels ensure the power through the pedals is efficientl y dr iving you f orward. Components suc h as the S el le S an Marco Er a-Glamour sadd le, narrower bars and shor ter stems are c hosen to provide a women’s specific fit, ensur ing the bike r ides as good as it looks.

A U D A X O r iginal l y conceived as a more tr aditional road tourer the Audax has been tr ansf or med into a vision f or moder n endur ance road r id ing. The st ar ting point f or the ne w direction was switc hing the wheel platf or m from 700c to the road-plus 650b. Thanks to the incredibl y smooth rol ling Hunt Adventure disc wheels used in combination with the W T B Hor iz on TCS tires the Audax just eats up the miles. For long distan ce r iding, steel is undoubted l y the best mater ial f or the job. Its natur al resonance dampens road buzz and produces a r ide so com pliant that it ’s more akin to floating than rol ling. The geometr y has been re vised f or a less tour ing and more spor tive r iding position. S uc h geometr y required shor ter c hainstay s whilst retaining tire and c hainr ing c lear ance the result of these factors led to the de velopment of our custom yoke, a standout f eature on this incredible bike.
57
Gone, are the tr aditional 700c wheels in favor of the more compliant and equal l y fast 650B Adventure disc wheels cour tesy of Hunt. The Audax uses components selected f or per f or mance but with the solid reliabilit y required f or endurance r acing. The S himano 105 is a tr ue benc hmark f or any groupset and here on the Audax it keeps things rol ling efficientl y whilst the T RP mec hanic al disc br akes pro vide plent y of power to slow things down whene ver needed.

O X B R I D G E The name alone conjures up images of narrow cobbled streets, ancient Col lages and c hurc h c loc ks c himing in the distance. Once you lay e yes on an O xbr idge you see the picture is complete, suc h c lean lines and eff or tless st y le it simpl y ble nds into its surroundings. Far from being a homage to the vintage c yc ling er a, the O xbr idge is less velo-pastic he and more c yc ling sophistic ation. L ooking be yond the dark metal lic paint and into the fabr ic of the bike, the O xbr idge is a dail y companion. Made with qualit y mater ials and components means the O xbr idge c an be used al l year round, be it a cit y commuting or relaxed weekend jol lies.
63
F inished in a deep metal lic Br itish R acing Green, with polished components and leather sadd le, the O xbr idge is understated yet oo zing st y le. Designed f or cr uising in st y le, the simple single speed dr ivetr ain is easy to maintain, meaning you c an just relax and enjoy the r ide. The comf or table r iding position keeps you more upr ight to obser ve what ’s going on around you, ideal when mixing with the tr affic. Color-coded al loy f enders are r attle-free and keep you dr y when the weather ine vitabl y takes a tur n f or the worse.

O U T L A W Introduced in 2017 the O utlaw was an instant hit, thanks to its o versiz ed tires combined with the c lean lines of the steel tubing, and ‘those looks’. Using the ‘ Road P lus’ concept with a 650B r im combined with a large volume tire, the benefit of a more comf or table r ide is ac hie ved. Blending the geometr y of road and ur ban, with steep head and seat tube angles but a higher stac k height, longer wheelbase and tr ail gives the O utlaw its stable yet engaging r ide. For 2018 the O utlaw is split into t wo versions. The O utlaw 1 uses a single-speed belt dr ive setup whilst the O utlaw 2 combines its belt dr ive with the S himano Nexus inter nal geared hub, just to help out when things get a little hil l y. The c af é r acer inspired looks are retained, and combined with the wide bar br inging a little extr a control and presence to this ur ban prowler.
69
Using a ful l cr mo tube set with double-butted front tr iangle, tapered head tube and sliding dropouts, the O utlaw 1 has a fr ame pac ked with f eatures. The coupler in the seat stay al lows the Gates Car bon belt dr ive access into the fr ame, so that it may dr ive the T itle-disc rear hub. R ac k and f ender mounts in addition to remo vable c able guides mean there is al way s scope f or upgr ades and modific ation to suit whate ver dail y err ands the O utlaw is tasked with.

At the core of the O utlaw 2 is the Columbus Cromor double-butted fr ame, ideal l y suited to the ur ban environment thanks to its balance of dur abilit y and lower weight. Welded into a geometr y that inspires fun and fast r iding thanks to its stabilit y and direct hand ling, r iding round town has ne ver been suc h a blast. N E E D L E The Need le fist leapt of the dr awing board and into battle on the fixed-gear r acing scene bac k in 2015. Continuousl y being t weaked and adjusted since then, the bike has become something of a benc hmark f or a fixed cr iter ium r ace bike. Opting f or steel o ver aluminium or c ar bon was al way s the star ting point. W ith r ace sur faces being far from ‘ butter ’ smooth the impor tance f or the bike to remain in contact with the ground is par amount in holding a line through the tight cor ners. The inherent ‘give ’ of steel c an be engineered and control led in the fr ame design to help absor b the bumps keeping the r ider in ful l control. Knowing the bike wil l respond predictabl y through the cor ners inspires confidence to commit to a line, and take it faster with e ver y lap. O ver the past f e w years the Need le has pro ved itself not onl y in domestic r aces, but also on the wor ld stage of the Red Hook Cr it ser ies.
75
The Need le uses a cr iter ium r ace geometr y de veloped through col labor ation with TeamWI T. A higher BB gives the Need le the abilit y to cor ner lower, al lowing f or the fastest line to be taken through e ver y cor ner. The Columbus Cromor double-butted front tr iangle is used f or f or its light weight yet dur able proper ties, ideal when cr ashes are common. The c ar bon f ork with deep section blades and tapered al loy steerer tube help the Need le slice through the field, whilst the SRAM Omnium cr ankset al lows f or a smooth and efficient power deliver y.
