he Lake Chelan Arts Festival, which in the past has been held in mid-August, will be held June 22 and 23 this year. Organizers feel that the June weather is more comfortable than the late summer weather and less likely to be affected by smoky conditions. The number of artists bringing their work to the event is more than double those that participated last time. The artists come from all over the state, but include several local artists. Mediums include paintings, ceramics, clothing, dolls, mosaics, sculptures, jewelry, woodwork and even artistic bird’s nests. All participating artists go through an application process and are reviewed and accepted by the Lake Chelan Arts Council. The Lake Chelan Arts Council is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote all the arts in the Chelan Valley. Proceeds are used to pay for two visual arts scholarships, to maintain the Lake Chelan Outdoor Gallery and to sponsor art classes and activities throughout the Chelan Valley.

Century Challenge is a cloverleaf design of three loops for a total of 101.2 miles on a course with challenging elevation gain. Riders can also complete partial routes. The signature climb of the event is McNeil Canyon, which is rated as a “Cat 1” climb. The ascent will be timed, and age-group prizes will be awarded for the fastest times. The race begins at 7 a.m. at Lake Chelan River Park and will finish at the same location. Cycle de Vine is a relaxed route of 21.3 miles which is appropriate for most skill and fitness levels. It includes rest stops at many area wineries and a boat trip across Lake Chelan. The ride departs from Vin du Lac winery, follows the north shore of the lake and then crosses the lake to Lake Chelan State Park. Participating wineries will be providing coupon promotions. This year the event will include a poker run with a grand prize at the end of the ride. The ride begins at 9 a.m. at Vin du Lac Winery, 105 Highway 150, Chelan. The races are organized by the Lake Chelan Rotary Club and proceeds benefit the charitable work of the club. Registration for the Century Challenge and Cycle de Vine is available at cyclechelan.com.
