recap: “We were a very young team

Prior to that, Wenatchee had never advanced to the state playoffs. However, we have lost in the first round of the state playoffs each of those three years. Our goal this season is to win a district title to allow us to host the first round of a state playoff game rather than travel to Vancouver or Tacoma as we have done in the past. We had a very successful campaign last year despite multiple injuries including losing our top two goalies for the season in only our sixth game. The Big 9 had great parity as Wenatchee had many close games last season including four shootouts and one
overtime loss to Eastmont. Our 13 wins the past two years has been a school record. However, the girls were disappointed with the final outcome of the year by not advancing further in the state playoffs. The league has been dominated by West Valley since they joined the Big 9 three years ago as they have placed first in the Big 9 and second in State the past two seasons. We lost three seniors from last seasons team whose leadership will especially be missed. However, we have 14 players with at least two years varsity experience returning this season. These players have set a combined 12 school records the past two seasons.” ◆◆ Game that’s circled on the
calendar: West Valley and Eastmont. ◆◆ Coach’s quote: “What was a
group of 14 young varsity players two years ago has suddenly become a veteran squad of upperclassmen. This year’s team has the experience and talent that no other team has had in my five years of coaching. They have set 12 school records in the past two years but have not been able to achieve a league or district title. This season the girls have a goal of achieving a title but know the Big 9 competition will be stronger than ever.”

Senior Aria Tornabene. Last year’s team was young. “We had a young team that gained a lot of experience throughout the season,” Valdez said.
◆◆ Meet that’s circled on the calendar:
Wenatchee Invite on Saturday, Sep. 23. Twenty-five team will be attending; CBBN league meet at Walla Walla Point Park on Oct. 17; District (State Qualifying meet on Oct. 26 at Franklin Park in Yakima. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: Wenatchee
graduates its two lone state runners from 2016’s team. The Panthers get Claire Shirmon back — a state particpant in 2015 — after she missed
her junior year with an injury. The boys’ side has a number of upperclassmen, while the girls’ side is a little younger. ◆◆ Coach’s quote: “We have a lot of
new faces out for cross country this fall. I am excited to see the large number of freshmen runners out this season. We have nine freshman girls turning out and 13 freshman boys on this year’s team. I am anxious for the season’s competitions to begin.”

◆◆ Head coach: Emily McLean (third
season) ◆◆ Last season’s recap: Wenatchee
swept their regular-season series with Moses Lake, Davis, and Sunnyside, losing only one set in six combined matches. The Panthers lost twice to undefeated league champ West Valley (Yakima) and split with Eisenhower. After taking their September home meeting with Eastmont 3-1, the Panthers lost a five-set road heartbreaker in the rematch Oct. 25 and finished the regular-season tied with
the Wildcats for second in the league standings. Wenatchee crushed Davis and Eisenhower in its first two district matches but again lost to Eastmont in a five-set classic to fall one-game short of the 4A state tournament. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: A veteran
Panthers squad returns 10 of 12 starters from the last season’s varsity lineup, though the entire roster has on-court experience. A tight-knit senior group, led by standouts Allie Hallberg and Demary Sugg, hope to lead the Panthers back to the 4A state
tournament for the first time since 2013. ◆◆ Game that’s circled on the calendar:
Though the team always guards against overlooking any opponent on the schedule, the annual crosstown rivalry matches with Eastmont draw the most passion from players and fans alike. That the Wildcats took two of three meetings last season only brings extra motivation for the Panthers, who travel to Eastmont on Sept.28 and host the ‘Cats in both teams’ regular-season finale Oct. 24.

The outlook for this season looks very hopeful and promising. Staying healthy will be a huge key to our success. Girls: Last year we fielded a team that was very, very young.
We are still exceptionally young this year, but the returning girls do bring some experience, including state meet experience. Cashmere then won its first round match 2-1 over NEA league champion on the road in Spokane before losing in the state quarterfinals 2-1 to La Salle. The Bulldogs were led by CTL Player of the Year — Molly Thies, who is now playing at Spokane CC.The Bulldogs scored 71 goals, averaging 3.3 goals per game. Cashmere had games where it scored 11, eight, seven (twice) and six goals

The triple option offense kept defenses off balance and allowed the Bulldogs to clinch a share of the CTL title. Over the last four
regular season games, Cashmere averaged 34.5 points per game and never scored less than 28 points over its last five games. In those four games, the Bulldogs went 3-1 with all three wins coming against league opponents. Their season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs, losing 64-28 to Colville. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: Coming off a year where they
shared the CTL title, the Bulldogs return quarterback Tyler Kert, who has established himself as one of the better quarterbacks in the league. Cashmere also returns defensive backs Noah Phillips and Kross Knoll, who both double as wide receivers.
The Bulldogs will plan on having a punishing running attack, but may also look to throw the ball in the air a bit more. The inexperience of the offensive line, as well as injuries, are something that may hinder Cashmere in the beginning of the season. ◆◆ Game that’s circled on the calendar: Okanogan ◆◆ Coach’s quote: “I’m pleased with the skill positions and returning starters. Football “I can’t wait to see what this 103rd Chelan football team can do.” Trent Domser
Chelan Goats football coach ◆◆ Last year’s record: 3-7 overall, 0-4 CTL ◆◆ Returning starters: offense: seven, defense: eight ◆◆ Key returners: Matt Fitzpatrick, sr., LB; Hunter
Lehmbecker, sr., OL/DL; Connor Wilson, soph. WR/ QB/DB; Quinn Stamps, jr.; LB/QB/WR; Erik Alcala, jr., LB/RB; Kyle Jackson, soph., WR/DB; Colt Corrigan, jr., OL/DL; Wyatt Dietrich, jr., Ol/DL ◆◆ Impact newcomer: Christian Torress, soph., WR/ DB ◆◆ Name of home field: Sargent Field ◆◆ Head coach: Travis Domser (fifth season) ◆◆ Last season’s recap: 2016 marked the first time in three years that Chelan did not compete for a CTL title. Despite having a young roster, the Mountain Goats began the year with a thrilling 21-14 home win over Quincy and defeated Bellevue Christian 37-14 two weeks later. Chelan defense struggled against their league's explosive and diverse offenses, but the Goats pushed Omak and Cascade to the wire before falling short in both comeback attempts. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: The Goats return most of their offensive starters but will have to replace the passing production of graduated starting quarterback Zach Phelps. Establishing a balanced attack will help prevent defenses from loading the box to stop junior running back Erik Alcala, who’ll see the heaviest workload on the ground after a breakout sophomore season. Chelan’s defense must improve after allowing 35 points and 463 yards per game in league play last season. ◆◆ Games circled on the calendar: Domser knows that the CTL’s road to the postseason runs through Bulldogs country. Road matchups with both Okanogan (Oct. 6) and Cashmere (Oct. 26) are crucial to Chelan’s playoff hopes. ◆◆ Coach’s quote: "I can't wait to see what this 103rd Chelan football team can do. This is a very hard-working, dedicated group who has had a good offseason. We’re excited to see if this team can get us back in the hunt for a league title."

Mountain Goats finished second
in the Caribou Trail League standings, losing only to champion Cascade. Chelan also placed second at districts with a five-set win over Cashmere, then lost a three-set match to Freeman at regionals to end the season. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: Despite their returning few varsity starters, the Mountain Goats have a singular focus in 2017 as they look to make their first trip to the state tournament since 2013. District defeats to Cascade ended Chelan’s chances in 2014 and in Rainville’s first season in 2015.
◆◆ Games circled on the calendar:
The Goats prepare for CTL play with a difficult non-league schedule that includes four state participants (Charles Wright HS and Annie Wright HS on Sept. 9, at Zillah on Oct. 12, and at Brewster on Sept. 12). Chelan also hosts Wenatchee on Sept. 7 and Eastmont on Sept. 19. The season-closing stretch of four league matches in nine days will play a key role in district seeding. Chelan hosts perennial powerhouse Cascade on Oct. 24.

The boys’ team took home the district team championship and a sweep of the top three individual times, and the girls finished second at districts. Seven boys runners qualified for the 1A state meet at Sun Willows, with senior Mereck Pelazzo capturing third place. Fellow seniors Henry
Elsner and Dillon Dawson also earned outstanding finishes at 11th and 22nd respectively. Senior Allie Barnes earned the Chelan girls’ lone state berth, finishing just outside the top-100. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: Sophomore Chris Knight looks like the heir apparent for the boys’ side after running a 10:31 in the two-mile and earning a state berth as a freshman. Javier Torres and Logan Manier project as top 10 or 15 runners in the district and are returning state qualifiers. The girls’ team lost several runners to graduation but senior Olivia Nygreen leads a hardworking group of freshmen and sophomores runners who should help Chelan remain competitive. ◆◆ Meet that’s circled on the calendar: For coach Anderson, who founded the Chelan cross-country program in 1985, the important
meets on the schedule are league/ districts (Oct. 25) and state (Nov. 4). Trips to the King’s Cross Invite in Seattle (Oct. 13), and the Nike Invitational at Lakewood challenge the Mountain Goats against many of the top runners in the state and provide good preparation for postseason meets. ◆◆ Coach’s quote: “We’ve had
some success in the program and I’ve had fun coaching over the years. I would categorize this year as definitely a rebuilding year. It’s hard to determine where we’ll be in relation to the rest of the league, but I think we’ll be competitive. They know we’re not as good as last year, but what I try to convey to them is that we have more upside. We have a greater ability to improve this year based upon the fact that we’re so young. We’re just going to take it meet to meet and see where we’re at.”

After opening with four non-league wins, the Pioneers lost a wild 45-35 home shootout against Cascade. Omak recovered with victories in three of its final five games, holding on for a 34-30 home win over Chelan before closing the year by erasing a 24-point deficit to win at Chewelah. A competitive 28-23 loss to crosstown rival and two-time defending state 2B champion Okanogan signaled Omak’s return to contention in the CTL. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: The Pioneers’ return strong, experienced sophomore and junior classes to the gridiron in 2017. quicker tempo than last season to get offensive playmakers out in space. The Pioneers’ linemen, led by senior Gage Coppock and state wrestling placer Navarro Nanpuya, worked relentlessly in the offseason to get in the best shape of their lives. Omak’s
defense looks to use its speed to swarm to the ball and force turnovers. ◆◆ Games circled on the calendar: Each of his team’s four CTL games is important, but Sackman highlighted games against Cascade (Sept. 29), Cashmere (Oct. 6) and Okanogan (Oct. 26) as the ones
his players are most intrigued by. Those three games provide opportunities to atone for last year’s league defeats. ◆◆ Coach quote: "Because we try to run a lot of plays and move quickly, there isn’t a large separation between our starters and backups.”
14 boys, seven girls ◆◆ Key returners: Boys: Israel Escamilla, jr; Andrick Carroll, jr; Kyle Holborn, sr.; Mason Holborn, soph.; Steven Zandell, soph.; Dawson Click, sr.; Braeden O’Dell, jr.; Evan Porter, soph.; Girls: Evangeline Lamb, jr.; Jennifer O’Dell, sr.; Kassidy Carlton, soph.; Emily Little, sr. ◆◆ Impact newcomers: none named ◆◆ Name of home course: East Omak Park ◆◆ Head coach: Sean Kato (second season) ◆◆ Last season’s recap: Israel Escamilla earned the lone state berth for the Pioneers’ boys squad, finishing in 48th place at the 1A state cross-country meet. Omak boys took third at the district meet, just a point behind secondplace Cashmere, where Escamilla and fellow sophomore Andrick Carroll finished in the top 10. Evangeline Lamb capped an excellent season with a secondplace finish at districts and secured a spot at state for the Pioneers girls side, where she
finished within the top half of competitors at 63rd place. ◆◆ Preseason storyline:
The Pioneers return five boys runners who broke the 19 minute mark at the district meet. Escamilla hopes to duplicate his meet victory at the Omak Invitational and earn a repeat trip to state. Carroll looks to challenge for his state berth and better his already stellar third place at the Omak Invite. Evangeline Lamb also seeks a return to state and could be joined by Kassidy Carlton, who enjoyed a successful debut as a freshman. ◆◆ Meet that’s circled on
the calendar: The Omak Invitational, held Oct. 4 at East Omak Park, is considered vital to the continued success of the program. Other meets hosted by CTL teams — the Okanogan Invitational (Sept. 19) and Leavenworth Invitational (Oct. 7) — provide a look at the team’s direct competition the district title.

◆◆ Last season’s recap: The
Pioneers opened the year with a trio of wins against Central Washington 2B League competition, but struggled against higherquality opponents, losing 10 of their final 12 games. Omak earned a 4-2 home win over Lake Roosevelt in October. The Pioneers played a pair of close matches against Chelan but scored just one goal in league play. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: With
eight new varsity starters and a concerning lack of depth and experience on the pitch, maintaining a fun, positive environment while developing fundamentals and individual skill-sets will be the primary goal over improving Omak’s win-loss record. Establishing complete team unity from the back to the front is of utmost importance. After opening with five of their first seven contests at
home, the Pioneers get the opportunity to travel often as seven of their final eight matches are on the road. ◆◆ Match that’s circled on the calendar: The annual crosstown rivalry with Okanogan (home, Sept. 28; road, Oct. 17) are the year’s most important matches for Pioneers players. Omak hasn’t defeated the Bulldogs since 2011. Werner said the team doesn’t want senior
starter Maria Rios to end her career without a win in the series. ◆◆ Coach’s quote: “From the ground up with this new squad it can’t be about any individual, it’s got to be about everything that we’re doing moving forward. I just want them to know, that whatever happens here they can draw on things like striving for success. Attitude and effort will go a long way, and teamwork.”

The Bulldogs couldn’t get past state-bound rivals Cascade and Cashmere. Okanogan dropped all five matches with the Kodiaks and Bulldogs, including a 2-1 season-ending district loss to Cashmere. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: Returning
quarterback Alex Nelson returns under center, bringing stability and experience to an offense that lost a quartet of talented skill-position players to graduation. Julian Cates projects as the starting tailback, though Justin Watts and Martin Grooms should both see significant playing time in the Bulldogs ‘wing and counter’ ground attack. Limiting mistakes and remaining disciplined with the football will be crucial to offensive success. Coach Judd hopes to have all 11 flying to the ball on defense, and fierce camp
competition for starting positions has set the tone for a unit that takes pride in its hard-hitting style. ◆◆ Game that’s circled on the calendar:
A tough season-opening road tilt against Warden (Sept. 1). Okanogan’s trip to Cashmere (Sept. 29) will likely play a huge role in determining the league’s playoff berths, and the Bulldogs host Cascade (Oct, 20) with a chance to avenge their lone league loss from last season. The annual crosstown rivalry at Omak (Thurs. Oct. 26) promises to be an exciting regularseason finale. ◆◆ Coach’s quote: “In our league every
single game is so important. There’s just not a lot of teams, so you can call every game the CTL championship. That first league game will be very important for us. Travelling down to Cashmere, always a tough place to play. They play very well at home and are always very well-coached. In that game you’re pulling out all the stops and putting your best guys out there to try to get a win.”
Girls soccer keeper Gwen Painter brings a talented, reliable presence in net, but the key to competing against Caribou Trail powerhouses Cascade and Cashmere is in creating and maintaining quality possessions and capitalizing on scoring opportunities. Early non-league matches should bring confidence and experience to a young lineup and a provides chance to sort out six open starting spots. ◆◆ Matches circled on the calendar:
Cascade (away, Sept. 21; home, Oct. 10) graduated few from a team that advanced to the state semifinals last
year, and Cashmere (away, Oct. 6; home, Oct. 24) returns most of last year’s state quarterfinal team. A midseason home match against Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) on Sept. 29 potentially previews a regional crossover, and a trip to St. Georges on Oct. 14 pits the Bulldogs against the defending state 2B champs. ◆◆ Coach’s quote: “You’ve got to
play the away games as well as the home games because at some point if you keep winning, no matter what, everybody has an away game. I’m really excited for this season.”

The Jackrabbits finished the year strong with consecutive shutout wins over East Valley (Yakima) and Grandview. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: Quincy returns an experienced roster, with seniors expected to fill around half the starting spots. Petersen continues to implement a balanced, ball-control offense that gives experienced signal-caller Kade Schutzmann the freedom to attack defenses with a variety of weapons. Avoiding turnovers, negative plays and poor field position will be crucial. The ‘bend but don’t break’ mentality of the Jacks’ defense challenges opponents to drive the length of the field. Its key to success comes in limiting big plays. ◆◆ Game that’s circled on the calendar: Quincy hosts Othello in its league opener on Sept. 22. CWAC football splits into divisions for the first time in 2017. ◆◆ Coach’s quote: “We’re pretty stoked about the potential of this team, I think we’ll be really fun to watch. I’d like to see a little more balance between run and pass, but I just enjoy the strategy of the passing game. It’s just a beautiful part of the game to see the ball in the air. I think it’s fun to play, fun to coach, and fun to watch. If we can be successful at both, that makes it really hard for a defense to try to stop us.”

Rosenberger, soph., OH; Avery Vanderveen, jr., RS; Maria Castillo, sr., MID ◆◆ Impact newcomers: Mackenzie Kleyn, fr., OH; Kelley Mills, fr., MID ◆◆ Name of home court: Quincy Gymnasium ◆◆ Head coach: Dean Pratt (second season) ◆◆ Last season’s recap: The inexperienced Jackrabbits began the season strong, winning four of five matches after a competitive season-opening home defeat to Cashmere. Quincy started league play with a 3-1 win over Toppenish, but lost consecutive matches to the league’s top three teams — Ellensburg, Othello, and Selah. An Oct. 18 home win over Wapato brought their five match losing streak to a close, but the Jackrabbits dropped their final two contests to finish eighth in the CWAC standings. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: Around 80 percent of the Jackrabbits roster is comprised of returning club players who’ve gained valuable playing time and experience. Top all-around player Morgan Kleyn put in tremendous offseason work and is set for an outstanding season anchoring the outside with sophomore Ashlyn Rosenberger. The Jackrabbits focus and maturity will be tested immediately. They play six of their opening seven matches on the road before hosting the annual Quincy Invite. Quincy closes with five of its final seven CWAC matches at home. ◆◆ Games circled on the calendar: Both gyms should again be packed for the longtime rivalry against Ephrata (Sept. 12 — road non-league match; Oct. 12 — home league match). Quincy will face the CWAC’s most talented player, Tia Andaya, on its Oct. 5 trip to Ellensburg, and the Wenatchee Invite on Oct. 14 provides a measuring stick for the approaching postseason. ◆◆ Coach’s quote: "When we left camp over there, we scrimmaged with Mount Si and we held our own. That’s a 4A school and we went five games with them. At the end when we were shaking hands to say goodbye, their coach said, ‘I love your team, they’re very scrappy.’”
◆◆ Last year’s record: 1-14 overall, 0-9 CWAC ◆◆ Returning starters: five ◆◆ Key returners: Alexis Mondragon, sr, DEF; Hailey
McKee, jr., DEF/MID; Giselle Hernandez, jr., DEF/MID ◆◆ Impact newcomers: Klaritssa Cruz, fr., FWD; Bekah Castro, fr., DEF ◆◆ Name of home field: Jaycee Stadium ◆◆ Head coach: Eric Nelson (fourth season) ◆◆ Last season’s recap: The highlight of 2016 came in a well-earned 4-3 road win over Chelan in the Jackrabbits’ second game of the year. Injuries decimated an already shorthanded roster, and attrition made it nearly impossible for Quincy to compete in the high-powered CWAC. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: Senior Alexis Mondragon returns to lead the Quincy defensive end in her fourth season as a varsity starter, and junior Hailey McKee looks to move into an attacking role in the midfield. Giselle Hernandez greatly benefits the team with her willingness to fill a variety of roles the pitch and generate interest for the sport among her peers. Freshman club players Klaritssa Cruz and Bekah Castro bring a fresh mix of drive and energy to a roster with improved turnout and in-game experience over last season. ◆◆ Games circled on the calendar: Nelson faces his alma mater in a pair of matches against Ellensburg Quincy hosts the Battle of the Basin rivalry with Ephrata on Sept. 28. ◆◆ Coach’s quote: We’re really promoting athletics, physical education and sport in general. We’re really trying to make sure that all teams feel empowered and important here in Quincy. I think that’s going to improve not only our numbers but the quality of play that we can bring, and that’s what we have to do as teachers and coaches — let students know that they’re important and they matter.

Heikas earned Quincy’s lone berth
at the 2A state meet at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco, finishing 45th to cap an outstanding debut season. The relatively inexperienced girls team battled through midseason injuries to place ninth at regionals. Gonzalo Birrueta paced a promising group of sophomores on the boys side, and though no runners qualified for the state meet, the boys team also earned a top-10 finish at regionals. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: Heikas returns from a successful spring track season highly motivated after nearly securing a top-eight state place at 800 meters. The girls side should be improved through another year of experience and
the addition of Kennedy and Jones. Birrueta remains the most active runner for the boys, having completed in several half-marathons over the summer. The debut of promising freshman runner Omar Ramos combined with a talented top three runners, increases the boys a chance at their goal of a top-four CWAC finish. ◆◆ Meets circled on the calendar: The Ultimook Race Nike Invitational at Tlllamook, Oregon (Sept. 2) challenges runners with river crossings and woods on a unique cross-country course, and the overnight trip serves as an early team building experience for Quincy. The grueling course at
the Leavenworth Invitational (Oct. 7) provides crucial hill practice, and Selah will host a league meet (Oct. 19). ◆◆ Coach’s quote: “As we’ve been
trying to build the program, we’ll have some kids that really just want to try it out and want to get in shape. We do our best to help them, and for the kids that want to excel and work at a drive for state we can work on differentiating our practice runs to where it’s a little more intense. We really try to give the kids a range and help them be successful in whatever their goal is.”

hard-fought 22-18 home loss to Cashmere. The Tigers turned in their lone victory of the year in a 49-6 September win over Wapato. Ephrata's defense struggled to keep conference foes off the scoreboard, allowing 39 points per game in league play and surrendering 48 points or more in five of nine CWAC contests. The Tigers finished a disappointing ninth place in the league standings. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: Ephrata has

Ephrata earned a 3-2 victory in its home opener against defending state 1A runners-up Cascade. The Tigers’ stellar defense recorded seven shutouts and allowed only one goal in its first eight league games. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: Ephrata graduated just one starter off last season’s varsity roster. This season’s senior group were freshmen on the Tigers’ 2014 final four team, and they’re excited about the
possibility of another deep postseason run. Ephrata plays four of its final five matches on the road over a crucial 13-day stretch that could determine district seeding. ◆◆ Games circled on the calendar: Early season matches against Cascade (road, Sept. 5) and Cashmere (home, Sept. 14) provide the early measuring stick against quality opponents with high-level coaching. The Tigers host Selah in the league

Whether it’s at practice or in gamesituations, we’re trying to see those opportunities to grow as players and to learn and work on the technical and skill aspects of the game itself. These girls have been able to do that each year, layer by layer, and I’m excited to see what that ‘one more layer’ looks like for them.”

season: The Mustangs had some growing pains last year, going 0-9. The Mustangs
scored only 36 points on the season in 2016 and was shut out four times. Bridgeport scored a season-high 14 points in its last game of the season against Soap Lake. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: The younger Bridgeport squad has been practicing hard, working on becoming an offensive powerhouse. ◆◆ Game circled on calendar: Their game against Liberty Bell on
Sept. 22. ◆◆ Coach’s quote: I
want to get to the playoffs, and I want to be over 500. I see kids practicing outside of our practices, I see seven of them practicing field goals when I got to work in the morning, and when I leave they’re practicing formations. I’m like ‘guys, practice isn’t until tomorrow,’ and they say ‘Coach, we want to practice today.’
7-9-1 overall; 5-7 CW2BL ◆◆ Key Returners: none given ◆◆ Impact Newcomers: none given ◆◆ Name of home field: Bridgeport High School ◆◆ Head coach: Gabriel Gonzalez ◆◆ Last season’s recap: The Fillies earned a 3-2 road win at Chelan before winning three of their first five league matches, including thrilling one-goal road wins at Lake Roosevelt and Oroville. After stumbling at home against the league's three best squads,
Bridgeport recovered with another road win at Manson and finished off a sweep of Oroville in the following match. The Fillies earned a first-round district win over Mabton on penalty kicks, but their season ended with a 5-0 loss at Liberty Bell. ◆◆ Preseason storyline: Bridgeport looks for good team chemistry and quality play from a team with increasing experience as they work toward their second winning season in three years. Though struggles against the league’s best teams have hindered the Fillies the past two
years, Bridgeport has an outside shot to surprise and earn its first trip to the district title game since 2013. ◆◆ Games circled on the
calendar: The Fillies have early opportunities to impress against the league’s top teams when they open league play at home against Liberty Bell (Sept. 21) and Tonasket (Sept. 26). Bridgeport seeks redemption in a pair of cross-river rivalry matches with Brewster (road, Oct. 5; home, Oct. 24) after the Bears swept the season series last year.
