Welcome to the Wenatchee Valley and the 2019 Washington State Apple Blossom Festival. As the official hosts for the cities of Wenatchee and East Wenatchee, the Applarians can be found escorting the many visiting floats down the parade route, entertaining our Northwest Festival friends throughout the weekend, and enjoying all the fun activities and events that have helped our festival thrive for 100 years! In addition to hosting, the Applarians also provide the $10,000 scholarship for our Applarian Chancellor Apple Blossom Queen, as well as acting Robin Huffaker and as ambassadors by accompanying our her husband Keith delightful Royalty and their float while visiting other festivals throughout Washington, Oregon and Canada. Keith and I are blessed with friendships within the Applarian and Apple Blossom organizations and are honored to share the role of representing our incredible valley, while participating in “The Party Never Ends”. Hello, and Welcome to the 100th Washington State Apple Blossom Festival. Princess Olivia, Princess Elizabeth and I are honored to represent our lovely valley and community and everything it has to offer. What started as a one day event in 1920 has bloomed into an 11 day celebration filled with a community coming together to experience many fun events. The Apple Blossom Festival is the second oldest festival in the state of Washington and by far our favorite. Our festival highlights our astonishing scenery, family centered values, and of course our Apple Industry and its economic impact. Over 100,000 spectators will line our streets for the grand parade on May 4. More than 20 food vendors will be set up in Memorial park for all 11 days! Just wait there’s more, for three days over 120 vendors selling their handcrafted goodies at the arts and crafts fair. No matter your age or interests our festival has something unique for everyone. Whether that be the Funtastic Shows carnival, the golf tournament, the food fair or the fun run, the list goes on and on. We truly hope you get the opportunity to enjoy and embrace this special festival. I love representing you and this valley so please never be shy and come say “Hi”. One hundred years strong “The Party Never Ends”!.
I would like to take this opportunity to Welcome you to the 100th Apple Blossom Festival celebration. The last weekend in April and first weekend in May we celebrate our valley and this amazing festival created by Susan Wagner 100 years ago. We are proud to continue to honor our apple industry and our beautiful Wenatchee Valley by carrying on the traditions she started so long ago. I invite you to take part in our wide variety of activities during the 11 days of our festival. There Director General, is something for everyone of all ages to enjoy! Deanna Bollinger Don’t forget to download our Apple Blossom Festival App to help you navigate all our festivities. The Apple Blossom Festival would not continue to be the success it is without our amazing and generous community. We are fortunate enough to have hundreds of businesses and volunteers who work year around to help make our festival dreams a reality. I am truly blessed to call this place my home and these people my “Apple Blossom family”. On behalf of the Apple Blossom Board of Directors, we Welcome you to our 100th Apple Blossom Festival! We remind you to patriciate in as many events as you can and hope you enjoy every minute of your time with us. For us “The Party Never Ends”!

The Staff and Students of the Eastmont Schools owe a tremendous debt to those who work tirelessly to keep the pride alive in our schools. We can never thank you enough for encouraging our Legislators to fully fund Education so every student in the Eastmont schools has the same opportunity to be successful. Without all the help you provide to our schools, and our community, Eastmont students would have fewer opportunities for meaningful learning experiences. In gratitude we would like to especially recognize • Our Voters who consistently support our students and approve both bonds and levies • Everyone who contacts our Representatives in Olympia and reminds them to support the education of our children • The many Building PTOs, Booster, Pride and Red Zone groups who find ways to build support for both student and staff needs. • Our Community Volunteers who work so hard in and around our schools. • Every Business and every individual who helps make Carnivals, Fun Nights, Picture Days, Book Fairs, Dances, Field Trips and many activities available for our students. For all the time and support you give to Eastmont students and staff, the teachers of the Eastmont Education Association want to say

GRAND PARADE SATURDAY, MAY 4 • 11:00 AM GRAND MARSHALS — To pay tribute to the Originator of the Washington State Apple Blossom Festival; Susan Wagner, the Apple Blossom Festival will be honoring as Grand Marshals her great-grand children. Mark Farnham and David (Dianne) Wright will be traveling from New Zealand and will be staying in Wenatchee for 5 days participating in the All Service Club Luncheon, the Festival Ball and the Stemilt Growers Grand Parade. "I am sure that Grannie Sue is up there somewhere, proud to see that 100 years of her idea is now the grand festival that it is today”, says David Wright, “It is because of this, it will indeed be an honor and privilege to be representing our Great Grandmother on this auspicious occasion. It is with pride that I am looking forward to being a Grand Marshal. It is also a chance to honor those who have kept her dreams and ideas alive for the past 100 years”. “For years I had heard stories from my grandmother and my mother who had traveled to Wenatchee for the Apple Blossom Festival with their mother and grandmother Susan Wagner”, says Mark Farnham “It has always been a fascination for me to go back one day and witness this great Festival, I can’t wait to be part of this magical time.” The Festival was the brainchild of Susan Wagner, wife of the district's first apple shipper and a native of New Zealand. She enjoyed the festivals of her childhood so much that she suggested beginning a similar festival in the Wenatchee Valley. The Ladies Musical Club produced the first festival in 1920, and the first Apple Blossom Festival Queen was Fern Prowell who reigned over the festivities, then called "Blossom Days." The one-day event in Memorial Park involved songs, speeches, Maypoles, and baseball. The event drew large delegations of business and community leaders from throughout Seattle, Spokane, and North Central Washington, and its continuance was assured. In 1921 the Commercial Club, forerunner of the Chamber of Commerce, took over sponsorship of the Festival. Our celebration carries the distinction of being the first Apple Blossom Festival in the country, and the oldest major festival in Washington. Only Sequim Irrigation Days in Western Washington is older than our Apple Blossom Festival.

Jim was living in Wenatchee and working across the region for a construction supply company while Pat was working as an airline attendant for United Airlines. They married in July of 1969. They moved to Wenatchee shortly thereafter. They have two children & 4 grand children! Jim joined Ramey’s Paint & Glass and became a partner in 1968. He purchased the business in 1974, and Pat soon joined the company. Over the years, she has donated her time and talents to various organizations and events, including Children’s Home Society of Washington, P.E.O. and the Festival of Trees. Pat has dedicated countless hours to the Apple Blossom Festival. Her daughter, Siobhan, was a Top Ten Candidate in 1997, and Pat’s involvement in the Festival grew from there. APPLE CITIZEN OF THE YEAR DALTON THOMAS
Dalton is the youngest son of Paul “Tommy” & Marguerite Thomas. He and his two brothers Paul & Herb were raised in East Wenatchee. He was a graduate of Wenatchee High School in 1960 and went on to graduate from the University of Washington. He married his lovely wife Pam in 1964 and they have four children Heidi, Shelly, Jim and Brad, and nine grandchildren. Oneonta Trading Corporation was founded in 1934 and became the first exporter of Washington apples and became an awardwinning leader in Washington in growing, packing and shipping. In 1965 Dalton and his brother Herb started working for Oneonta and in 1971 they acquired the business and won the first bid from the Central Trust of China to provide apples to Taiwan, representing not only the first Washington apples to go to that destination but also the creation of the “Asian pipeline” as it is known now. In 2002 Dalton acquired sole interest in Oneonta, now Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers. Starr Ranch Growers has received the Washington State Governor Trader of the Year Award and created Diamond Starr Growers, one of the largest pear marketers in the Northwest. With Dalton’s leadership Starr Ranch Growers now grows, packs and ships 15.5 million cartons of apples, 2.5 million pears, 2 million cherries as well as stone fruit from Washington and Oregon. And are also the biggest growers of Honeycrisp in New Zealand. Dalton was the recipient of Asiafruit Congress’ first-ever Impact Award for his contribution to developing Washington/US fresh fruit exports to Asia.

With more than 50 years in the fruit industry Dalton has retired and his long and illustrious career, is a significant chapter of the Thomas family’s contribution to the industry. This community is very important to Dalton! He and his family and Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers have contributed financially to Central Washington Hospital, Apple Education Foundation, Washington State Apple Blossom Festival, Wenatchee Valley College, Mission Ridge Ski Team, Complete the Loop Coalition and numerous youth activities and organizations throughout Central Washington. He was also one of the donors to ensure that the Scout A Vista Boy Scout Camp will continue to operate. Dalton’s Dad, Tommy had a passion for baseball as he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 1928. After Tommy’s passing, Dalton and his brother Herb donated over $750,000 to help construct and maintain the Wenatchee Valley College Baseball Field (Paul Thomas Senior Field). This field is also home to the Wenatchee AppleSox. Dalton also donated over 1 million dollars to turf the infield and build a hitting facility for Recreation Park. This facility not only benefits Wenatchee High School athletes but will benefit youth of all ages that love the game of baseball. Dalton has served on the Board of Directors for US Bank Washington, Washington Apple Commission and is a Past President of the Wenatchee Golf and Country Club. He is a lifelong hunter and fisherman and is also an avid golfer. “Big D”, as he is known by his grandkids, loves spending time with his family at his home at Lake Chelan where he flies the grandkid’s college flags proudly.

Dear Wenatchee, We love your dry summers, they’re worth the long winters. We love your bright, cool nights, and the sunsets along the river. We love your rich apple history and your beautiful mountain landscapes. We love your stores, landmarks, and good-hearted people, but most of all we thank you for the warm welcome you have given us and we love that we get to be a part of this beautiful community.
All our love,
