Jackie Blanchfield

Where were you born and where did you grow up? I was born in Omak and lived in Tonasket my whole 12 years of school. My parents still live in the same house, as a matter of fact. After graduating, I went into the Army for 4 years and settled in Wenatchee once I got out.

area about the value of living in the Wenatchee Valley? The value of living in Wenatchee is not only getting to enjoy our 4-seasons and our 300+ days of sunshine, but also getting to enjoy the people in our valley. Even though we complain, we really don’t have a lot to complain about here. We have anything and everything at our finger tips.

What got you into Real Estate and what keeps you there? I remember the one conversation I had about the possibility of getting my real estate license. I had just decided I didn’t want to proceed in the Nursing Program at the college and had just told my head teacher and the rest of the folks in the program. I was feeling a little lost and a little over-whelmed and one of my friends suggested it to me. I’ve never looked back. What keeps me in real estate is definitely the people and the challenge that it brings me. I learn something new every single day and my personality type gets bored easy, so I need that in my daily life. I am not one to sit still for long. What is the most interesting property you have ever listed? There are a few properties that come to mind, but I think the most interesting and different piece was one that I had listed right by a cemetery. Come to find out, the property lines were all messed up and part of the plots were actually on the subject property that I had listed. I teased the Buyers that at least their squatters were really quiet and wouldn’t cause much trouble. My old Broker used to tell me that if there was ever anything bizarre out there, I usually had it listed. What is one tip you would give to someone buying or selling a home? That they need to work with a Realtor, not just someone who has a real estate license. As Realtors, we are held to a higher Code of Ethics than the rest. They also need to trust their Realtor 110%. If they don’t…they need to find another Realtor. If you could live in another country for a year, which country would it be and why? Probably Australia. They have beaches, deserts, and rainforests and a great climate. I think you could spend most of the year checking out different things all the time. Plus Australia has some of the coolest animals that I’d love to check out.

As we head toward Fall and cooler weather, now is a great time to address curb appeal. Phylis Harb, a Realtor® member, authored an article in Realtor Magazine titled “Try These 10 Tips for Boosting Curb Appeal.” In the article Phylis recommends: 1. Trim shrubs and trees in the front yard; a homebuyer should be able to see your home’s architectural features (such as that beautiful picture window). Tidy up your yard; put away hoses, trash cans, etc. 2. Remove the screen door (if any), dress up the front porch with a plant (if there’s room), and wash your windows and your screens. 3. If the mailbox is visible from the curb, ensure that it is attractive. 4. Repaint any peeling trim or exterior paint.

5. Define the approach: Add a stone walkway or path leading to the house, or define it with plants or flowers.

6. Ensure any automatic lights along the house and walkways light up when it gets dark.

7. When visible from the street, replace that tired looking garage door with a new one. Remember to keep the door style in tune with the home’s architectural style. 8. Make sure the driveway isn’t cracked. If so consider repair or resurface.

9. Add details such as shutters and decorative moldings. Make boring windows come alive and (depending on your home’s style) define the architecture of your house with shutters or ironwork. 10. Take one more close look at the exterior of the property from a buyer’s perspective. Reprinted from REALTOR® Magazine Online, August 2009, with permission of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®. What is your most prized possession? I don’t really have any prized possessions. I would probably be most upset if I lost my pictures. You know…family pictures, friends, growing up, vacations. Just all the memories of all of the things that have shaped me into who I am today. Snow ski or water ski? Definitely not snow ski. I did however buy a snowmobile last year that is awesome! Only got to go 3 or 4 times, but this year will be different. I don’t water ski, but we used to own a boat and my daughter and I learned to wake board. That was a blast! I also just got my motorcycle endorsement and bought a dual sport. That will be for in-between seasons.
