lueberry Hills: a family owned and operated u-pick berry farm with a farmhouse-style restaurant, fruit stand, and country gift shop. Their speciality: blueberries. The over 20 acre farm is home to 16 different varieties. Around Lake Chelan Valley, they’re known for their “fantastic, down-home, scratch country cookin’. Stuff gramma would be proud to serve for Sunday supper with the folks,” as described on their website.
Let’s get
Blueberry Hills is owned and ran by the Sorrenson family from Manson — Kari, pictured above, and her parents, Roger and Linda. However, the homestead has been in the family for over 100 years. Back in the early 1900s, the farm was originally planted with apples and continued in apples until the fall of 1999. Kari’s grandpa, Paul F. Peters
Social
@tricia.elizabeth
Kari was there with Paul when her dad pulled out all the apple trees to plant the berries. “It was the first time I ever saw Grandpa cry. He tried acting like he had something in his eye, but I was on to him. It made me cry too,” Kari said. The sadness was soon replaced with happiness, however. The berries thrived
in the soil, and the hot days and cool nights made the sugar content in the berries higher (just as it does in apples). In fact, they use less than 1/4 cup of sugar in their delicious blueberry pies. “Out here at Blueberry Hills, folks, we say, ‘The proof is in the pie!’”Kari said. Come out and taste for yourself. Bring the whole family out to 1315 Washington St, Manson to relax, chill, and eat where the locals do. Visit wildaboutberries. com for more information.
