Indian Relay Race Ever since the Waterville Plateau was settled, visitors to North Central Washington have developed a greater respect and understanding of the Native American cultures which pre-dated their arrival. The NCW Fair has nurtured that relationship since its beginnings in the late 1800’s. A highlight has been the Indian Relay Races. This crowd favorite is a must-see to conclude each day of the Big Bend Roundup Rodeo. Don’t miss it!

Friday Night Concert Neal McCoy 7:30 pm Neal McCoy has released fifteen studio albums on various labels, and has released 34 singles to country radio. In 1993, Neal McCoy broke through with the back-toback Number 1 singles: No Doubt About It and Wink from his platinum-certified album “No Doubt About It”. His commercial success continued into the late 1990’s with two more platinum albums and a gold album, as well as six more Top Ten hits. A seventh Top Ten hit, Billy’s Got His Beer Goggles On, came in 2005 from his self-released album “That’s Life”. “Music of Your Life” – a big band jazz and country amalgam with Les Brown Jr. which was recorded for a public television special – appeared in 2011. This was followed in 2012 by a new studio album “XII”. In 2013 he released “Pride-A Tribute to Charley Pride” – Neal’s long time friend and mentor. 2015 brought the Big Band Standards CD “You Don’t Know Me.” Despite his prolific recording schedule, Neal is “especially well-known for his life shows where he brings some serious energy and infectious humor”. Neal main-

tains a very busy touring schedule throughout the year – at every stop he is met by jubilant fans who rave about his performance! Recently Taste of Country described his stage presence as delivering “one of the most unexpectedly awesome onstage moments” of last year’s Taste of Country Music Festival. One review commented on “the loose spirit of fun that pervades his shows”. The NCW Fair is extremely pleased to welcome Neal McCoy to Waterville on Friday night – we know you’ll have a great time. 6:30 pm Opening for Neal – “Jumpers Flats” – Waterville’s Undercover Band

August 26 & 27, 2017 4:00 pm Saturday, August 26 1:30 pm Sunday, August 27
Bucking bulls, bareback and saddle broncs, barrel racing, steer wrestling, calf and team roping are all traditional parts of the Big Bend Round-Up held annually during the NCW Fair. One of the more unusual events that always garners plenty of laughter and cheers is Wild Cow Milking. Teams made up of 3 people hang on for dear life as a very large, very wild cow is turned loose from the bucking chutes. The task is to get an amount of milk from the wild cow and bring it to the finish line. Watch out for the hooves…they’ll get ya! Mutton Bustin’ was introduced last year and brought the crowd to their feet! Kids don protective helmets and grab onto the thick wool of a feisty sheep in an attempt to remain on its back on a wild ride through the arena. A trophy – which is probably taller than the recipient – is awarded to the winner. The Wild Horse Race is another popular event
during the Big Bend Round-Up Rodeo. Teams of 3 cowboys try to break a wild horse, saddle it and ride it across the arena to a finish circle in the dirt. The action begins as soon as they open the chutes as man and horse battle for dominance. It’s a throwback to the old days of cowboy life – truly breaking and riding a wild horse right before your eyes. An explanation of each event and participant standings will be explained by this year’s rodeo announcer, Tucker Cool, and MC Doug Bromiley. You can keep score with your rodeo program – available for just $1 – which also lists the generous rodeo and horse race sponsors. We encourage you to show your appreciation for their sponsorship by patronizing their businesses whenever you can. Catch all the action from the open grandstands (free with fair admission) or purchase a covered grandstand seat for just $5.

Horse Racing The NCW Fair’s Big Bend Roundup has featured horse racing for nearly as long as there’s been a fair! Thrill at the speed of these beautiful thoroughbreds and quarter horses round the track! While there’s
no wagering allowed, you can bet the competition will be fierce. You can watch all the action from the Rodeo Arena Grandstands.

Indian Relay Race The Indian Relay Race is the culminating event of the Big Bend Roundup Rodeo during the NCW Fair. Part of the Professional Indian Horse Racing Association’s annual schedule, teams consist of 3 horses and 4 people. 1 person is the jockey while the other 3 serve as catchers and holders. Horses have a bridle only and riders swing up and ride bareback. The race begins with each team assembled in front of the grandstands in their “circle”. The Indian Relay Race
is a 50+ year old tradition during the NCW Fair, which accepts up to 12 entries. The minimum purse is $6,000 with a $1,000 consolation prize. The entry fee for teams is $200 and teams come from tribes all over the Northwest to compete, with the largest contingency coming from Omak and Okanogan. Watch the Indian Relay Race as the final event of the Big Bend Roundup Rodeo on both Saturday and Sunday.
