WENDOVER SCARECROW TRAIL

Scarecrow Trail

Presentations

From Saturday 8 to Sunday 23 August, Wendover was festooned with lovely scarecrows and groups of people wandering all over to seek them out and identify them. A small crowd assembled on Saturday 5 September at Fiona Michaels Flowers|Gifts|Events. Alison Edmonds, organiser of Wendover's Scarecrow Trail, asked Bob Duggan, owner of Wendover Wood, to give out the prizes. These were: • a token, made by Wendover Wood • a booklet, sponsored by Christopher Pallet, Wendover • a cash token for the Guessers: £40 first prize; £25 second; £15 third

Awards were given for the maker/designer: the Judges and the People.

Awards for Makers/Designers

•Judge's choice: Captain Sir Tom Moore made by Becca and Indigo, inspired by the NHS fundraiser. He has now been donated to Woodlands Park Care Centre, Great Missenden, where he is much admired. •People's choice: The Mad Hatter made by Julie and family, because 2020 has been such a mad year.

The booklet displaying a photo of each scarecrow was sponsored by Christopher Pallet, Wendover. A copy costs only £1 and is available from Fiona Michaels at The Barn, 13 High Street, HP22 6DU. Alison is chair of the Junior Parent Teacher Association, one of many charities whose main fund raising time was cancelled because of lockdown. All moneys raised from sales of entry forms and booklets less expenses will be split between John Hampden School Wendover and Wendover CofE Junior School.

• 37 Scarecrows were made. Well done to all the designers and makers. • 202 entry forms were bought. Well done to everyone who tracked down all the scarecrows and identified them. • Thank you Alison. She hopes to repeat the Scarecrow Trail next summer. If you would like to join her small and friendly team, please contact her on scarecrowtrailwendover@ gmail.com.
