The 42nd Annual General Meeting of the Lionel Abel-Smith Trust took place on Wednesday 29 April. Despite not being able to hold our annual lunch, with invited guests, prior to the business part of the meeting, our Zoom held conference call was a great success with a total of £43,078 being awarded in grants. This brought the total awarded in grants during the year to £103,147. The breakdown is as follows: • Education 31964 • Individual 9689 • Seniors 7409 • Medical 13879 • Organisations 40206

for one another and Tony has always upheld Lionel’s basic principles for the Trust when making decisions. Tony was the Chairman from 1977 until 2013 when Marion Clayton took over the office. Tony has worked tirelessly for the Trust for 43 years, never missing an AGM during the whole time. He has always gone the extra mile when helping applicants. He is a mine of information and his memory is second to none, remembering the details of applications made years previously.

Opening Hours
Our current opening hours are 8am-6.30pm Monday to Friday. For the time being we will not be open on Saturday mornings nor opening late on Tuesdays. We will be closed from 1pm on Thursday 18 June and Wednesday 15 July for staff training. At all times when we are closed, contact 111 if you need urgent help.
Contacting us during the pandemic
We are here to help. If you are worried about your health or the health of your children, please do not delay in contacting us. Call us on 01296 623452 and a doctor or nurse will call you back; as far as possible you will be directed to your usual GP. If you have a smartphone we now can offer video consultations. If you do need to be seen we will arrange a face-to-face appointment. Those who are shielding from coronavirus will be visited at home. If you are concerned about a skin lesion or rash please use your phone to take a good quality photograph of it in natural light. Then call us when we are are open and let the receptionist know. She will text you a link which you can use to upload the photograph, and will arrange a telephone appointment to discuss it.
Vitamin D
Vitamin D keeps bones and muscles healthy. It is produced in the skin on exposure to sunlight. If you are spending a lot of time indoors during the pandemic, we advise you to take a vitamin D supplement. The dose for adults and children over 5 is 10mcg (400iu) daily. Younger children should also be given vitamin D unless they are drinking formula milk. Vitamins are not available on prescription, please buy them from a pharmacy, supermarket or health food store.
Medicines for Hay Fever
Antihistamines, steroid nasal sprays and eye drops such as cromoglycate can all be purchased over the counter in pharmacies and are not normally available on an NHS prescription. For advice on managing hay fever symptoms please see www.nhs.uk/ conditions/hay-fever/.
