The Wendover Good Neighbour Scheme (WGNS) helped a lot of people through Lockdown 1. The simple ethos of neighbour looking after neighbour, a bit of shopping, a prescription or two and all delivered with a kind word showed our community in the very best light. None of the wardens joined up to get recognition but, as the Rolling Stones song goes “You can’t always get what you want.” Wendover has won a Proud of Bucks Award for its warden scheme. I’m to accept it but I don’t do that on behalf of the WPC or any single organisation. I do it for you, the people of Wendover. The wardens and drivers that went the extra mile to help out. The Wendover Youths and the Food Bank and for all of you who stayed home, stayed safe and prevented the NHS being swamped.

Community
Awards
This year the Wendover Community Awards were done a bit differently. The community were invited to nominate their heroes and an independent selection panel made up of individuals from local businesses, schools, sports clubs, emergency services and the community assembled to ensure an unbiased result. Unfortunately, the award ceremony, which was originally planned to take place in April at the Annual Parish Meeting, was cancelled due to coronavirus. However, on Wednesday 28 October the Parish Council were able to present the awards outside Budgens on Manor Waste. Please visit the webpage www.wendover-pc. gov.uk/post/wendover-community-awards-1 to view the award winners for each category.

Despite the annual Christmas Celebration on Manor Waste being cancelled this year due to coronavirus, to keep some Christmas cheer alive, the Parish Council have decided to fund the mini Christmas trees located every year along the High Street in Wendover, instead of the High Street businesses. It has been a difficult time for all our local businesses and the Parish Council wanted to support them, ensuring that every business that purchased a mini Christmas tree in 2019 will receive a free one in 2020. Furthermore, on behalf of the community, a very big thank you to No.2 Pound Street for generously sponsoring the 18ft Christmas tree on Manor Waste this year!
