View from the Chair

A new year is a good time for reflection in an organisation like WPC. 2020 was not my favourite year, though I did get a grandson out of it. The WPC, despite everything that we have all endured, is in good order. It has risen to meet the challenges of our times and it is, I think, closer to our community than it ever has been. Our professional staff has carried on maintaining and improving our estate. They have supported the Wendover Good Neighbour Scheme and enabled council to address some big issues in cooperation with parishioners and local organisations. For me, this is how a parish council should work.

A new year is also a good time for personal reflection. As a result of my musings I have decided that this is a good time for me to step down from the chairmanship of WPC. Yes, this will be the last of my rustic ramblings on the back page. February’s council meeting will elect a new chairman. I am sad to go but it’s the right time for me to pursue other interests. I will still remain as a parish councillor to help with HS2 matters if council wishes. I would like to thank you all for supporting the WPC during my tenure. It is that support that has made the job so very rewarding.

Grants

Did you know that Wendover Parish Council sets an annual minor and major grant budget in order to provide financial assistance to organisations, projects and activities which provide services for local residents? Applicants for funding must meet an eligibility criterion, for more information please refer to the Grants Policy which can be found on our website www.wendover-pc. gov.uk/grants. Please note the closing date for a major grants application is 31 January 2021, to be awarded in the new financial year from April 2021.

Wendover Community Awards

We want to hear from you! Residents are invited to nominate people who they feel deserve an award and the winners will be honoured at the Annual Parish Council Meeting during April 2021. The award categories are: Outstanding Young Person, Creative Arts, Lifetime Achievement, Sporting Achievement, Service with a Smile and Volunteer with a Smile. Wendover Good Neighbour Scheme

Earlier this year, Wendover Parish Council launched the Wendover Good Neighbour Scheme (WGNS) to support residents with a variety of needs during the coronavirus restrictions. Should anyone requiring support be unaware of who their warden is, do contact WPC on 01296 623056 or admin@ wendover-pc.co.uk who will put you in touch with one of our four regional wardens.

Beyond the WGNS, there is a wealth of support available in Bucks. The WPC has created a ‘useful links & information’ compilation, located by clicking onto the “Covid & Support” tab from the WPChomepage www.wendover-pc.gov.uk/ updates-and-useful-links.

This compilation consists of the most requested and useful links/contact details to support residents, across a breadth of groups and types of need. As things continue to evolve, we welcome resident input and feedback on the WGNS and of any key support details not currently listed.

On behalf of the community, the Council would like to say a heartfelt thank you to every Warden and Driver for their outstanding consideration towards ensuring residents were appropriately supported. Thanks to the compassion and willingness of these volunteers, the Wendover Parish Council was able to offer assurances, to those in need around the village, that they would be cared for. THANK YOU!
