The Shepherd’s Hut Outdoor Day Nursery

In 2018 we were delighted to open our doors at The Shepherd’s Hut Outdoor Day Nursery, Nash Lee Lane, Wendover. Our aim was to provide an environment that allows children to grow in all areas of their development; a place where they can play freely allowing their natural curiosity to flourish whilst at the same time make magical memories.

We know that play is essential for learning about the world and for the physical and psychological benefits of having FUN! Play is important for providing for and protecting emotional wellbeing. Play fosters a sense of emotional security in even the most challenging situations. Never was this aspect of play more important than it is currently.

We became one of five finalists for the ‘Play Award’ hosted by Children & Young People Now. The Play Award is given for the initiative that has done the most to offer children and young people the opportunities to play freely, enjoy childhood and contribute to their social, emotional and physical development. This in itself was a great achievement out of over 600 applicants!

On 4 March 2021, The Shepherd’s Hut Outdoor Day Nursery were announced as WINNERS of the Award.

At The Shepherd’s Hut the children have freedom to play in our amazing outdoor space; which includes a meadow, mud kitchen, hammocks and campfire circle. If the weather is such that they aren’t able to be outside (which is not often!), there is a beautiful yurt with wood-burner which creates a cosy, home-from-home atmosphere.
