Local Elections Are Taking Place On 6 May 2021

If you are passionate about your local community, Wendover Parish needs you. Councillors make a huge difference to the quality of life of our Parish & surrounding villages and to how local issues are dealt with.

We need people from all backgrounds and experiences who reflect our communities to put themselves forward for election. With so many things happening in and around the Parish, the Parish Council has much to do to help ensure Wendover remains the vibrant, welcoming & successful market town we all know and love.

Perhaps you have innovative ideas for Wendover or concerns about a specific issue and want to do something about it. Maybe a special project, which is close to your heart, which you would like to promote. Being part of a team looking at speeding issues or managing HS2 impacts or improving the outside spaces. Perhaps you simply wish to play a bigger part in your community and help those in need. These, and many more, are all fantastic reasons to put yourself forward to become a Councillor for Wendover Parish.

What Do Councillors Do?

Local (parish and town) councils and councillors are passionate about their communities and seek to make a difference by helping improve their residents’ lives, in both small and big ways.

Local councils run numerous services, depending on the size of the council. Many you will see day-to-day, but some are less known. These include supporting the setting up of dementia-friendly groups, floral arrangements around the village, creating neighbourhood plans, maintaining streetlights, awarding grants, establishing youth projects, managing allotments and open spaces, maintaining footpaths, public seating, and litter bins.

A councillor’s role can include developing strategies and plans for the area, helping with problems and ideas, representing the community, working with other local community groups, reviewing decisions and talking to the community about their needs and what the council is doing.

Councillors are elected to represent the local community, so you must either live, work or have property/a business in the parish council area.

We have a number of vacancies this year following the retirement of some very long standing, excellent councillors who have helped make Wendover and the Council successful and productive. Wendover Parish Council needs YOU to volunteer and support the community, in which you live, work and thrive! Apply now! The deadline to submit nomination forms is 4pm on Thursday 8 April.
