Foodbank Donation Week in Wendover 2021

Due to the great success of two foodbank donation weeks last year during the pandemic, the Youth Centre, in partnership with St Mary’s, Wendover Free Church, Wendover Parish Council and the Wendover Foodbank ran its third Foodbank Donation Week in the last week of March.

Because of the effects of the pandemic and lockdowns, the number of people accessing the foodbank continues to increase in our local area. The Chiltern Foodbank, of which Wendover Foodbank is a part, has seen a continued increase in demand since we entered the third lockdown in December.

Over the week the community donated an amazing 537kg of food!!! This is fantastic effort by the community and once again a huge thank you for all the support for the Foodbank. All the donations were greatly appreciated.

During the week the young people came and helped with the cleaning and packing of the food into crates. It was great to see these young people put their time into coming up with ways to be a part of the week and help their community. A special mention to Eva and Mabel who worked together to encourage their street to donate food. They collected over two big trolleys of food from their street and also assisted with the cleaning/packing of the food! A big thank you to them and everyone else for their fantastic efforts throughout the week.

Once again it has been amazing to see the whole community come together to help those who are in need! We are very lucky to have such a generous and caring community. Due to the continued success and support, we have decided that we will be running another foodbank donation week in the Autumn.
