Visit from Action for Children

17 August at the RAF Halton Youth Activity Centre, the Action for Children youth workers came to deliver an ‘Air Play Olympics’!!

With Stations taking part up and down the country there are 9 events including the Flamingo Stand, Balloon Race and the infamous Egg and Spoon.

Youth Worker Julia Purton said: “This is a fantastic day to be part of and the children really enjoy it.”

The Airplay programme supports RAF families and helps children flourish. The Airplay youth workers work in partnership with RAF Community Development staff to deliver a range of activities for children and young people. Activities provided through the Airplay programme aim to stimulate and nurture children’s aspiration, ambition and resilience and also provide vital support and reassurance to families.

Airplay services are funded by the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.

Station Commander Coins

24 August at RAF Halton, the Station Commander, Group Captain Startup, was thrilled to award two more of the respected Station Commander’s Coins.

The first coin went to Shirley Hardy in the busy Registry office. During the pandemic, Shirley has worked tirelessly as the workload increased due to the additional mail coming into the Station from the surge in online shopping. Shirley was also integral in the takeover of the ceremonial swords from Supply for an interim period; a busy function on top of her registry role. She also came into work during her weekends to decorate the new Registry offices.

The second coin was awarded to Rebecca Mead who is a senior physiotherapist at RAF Halton. Rebecca is the civilian lead physiotherapist on McTeague rehabilitation flight and has guided recruits through their recovery process, often with many external challenges. Her ability to coordinate care pathways within new restrictions, along with her exceptional communications with not only the recruits, but also training staff and the rest of the medical team, has been exemplary.
