Climate Action Wendover
Actions in 2021
As we near the end of the year, Climate Action Wendover would like to say a big Thank You to all the residents who have taken our pledge.
The most popular actions that 80% of respondents have already taken is to minimise food wastage, reduce water consumption and stop the use of pesticides in their garden. In terms of changes respondents plan to make in the future, 90% said that they were planning to move their pensions and investments to ethical funds that support green initiatives and 50% said they will plant a tree.
Throughout 2021, Climate Action Wendover has organised tree planting events in partnership with the Woodland Trust and thanks to all the volunteers who supported these events, a total of 1500 trees have been planted, and a further 1600 are due to be planted throughout November and December. If you’d like to support our tree planting campaign, please register on our website www.climateactionwendover.org/event.
We are also delighted at the response to our solar streets campaign which generated lots of interest with many households requesting a quote to install solar panels on their roof. According to Solar Streets who have run campaigns across the county, the response in Wendover has been hugely positive with thirtythree households on the pathway towards solar and six installations underway. For more information and to get a quote please visit https://solarstreets.co.uk/wendover.
As everyone starts to prepare for Christmas this month let’s consider our impact on the environment - collectively, 27,000 miles of wrapping paper is used, we throw away 250,000 tons of food and £42 million in unwanted gifts, most of which ends up in landfill. If we can start to reverse this trend and take steps towards more environmentally friendly Christmas traditions, it will reduce our carbon emissions and restore our planet.
