Movember Thanks

I would like to use Wendover News to thank the citizens of Wendover who supported my Movember charity appeal, particularly the regulars at the King and Queen pub. At the beginning of the month I was dared to grow a moustache and ask donors to support my efforts. Well, the moustache is now established and opinion is split as to whether it makes me even more handsome, or makes me look like a young Father Christmas.

Anyway, thanks to their donations £750 has been raised, which will be forwarded to prostate cancer charities. The finished product can be viewed by prior appointment!!

Many thanks, Bill Brown

Green Homes Grant

Residents are being encouraged to check if they are eligible for a new scheme to improve the warmth of their homes, lower carbon emissions, and save money on fuel bills this winter. Under the Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery scheme, delivered by Warmworks on behalf of Buckinghamshire Council and through funding from the UK Government, householders can apply to receive improvements to their home.

The scheme offers a wide range of insulation measures and renewable heating technologies which are designed to support homes to reduce their impact on the environment, including air source, ground source, and hybrid heat pumps.

The Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery scheme is open to homeowners, private tenants and people in social rented accommodation, where the home has a low energy rating and a low annual income.

You can find out if you are eligible for the scheme by completing the short application form at www.warmworks.co.uk/ greenhomesgrant/.

Chiltern View Ice Rink Gala Opening

Opening night

Christmas came in November as Aylesbury’s Chiltern View Ice Rink officially opened with performances from the UK’s funniest red head – La Voix, along with Liberty X Singer Michelle Heaton who were joined on stage by Santa visiting with special gifts for the children with his elves and reindeer. Audiences were treated to a stunning ice performance from two-time Dancing on Ice winner Alex Murphy and had the chance to meet Narnia’s Ice Queen, Mr Tumnus and Santa’s juggling elves!

The winter wonderland, complete with sparkling Christmas trees, festive food and drinks and a beautiful ice sculpture saw local families enjoying the entertainment whilst taking a turn on the ice. Spotted in the crowd were local celebrities Kristina Rihanoff and Tony Hadley joining in the festivities with their families.

Chiltern View Ice Rink is open daily until 10 January. Why not browse the Garden Centre whilst you're there? To find out more about the special guest appearances and book your tickets for festive fun at its finest, go to www.chilternviewicerink.co.uk.

Aylesbury Roads Infrastructure

The disruption and gridlock has already begun on a daily basis as Bucks Council have done little to spend considerable Government or New Build Income to improve the main road structure by linking at least 5 of the main arteries coming into and going out of Aylesbury Town Centre. Work must start now on constructing the A41 at the Woodlands Roundabout at Aston Clinton with a link road to the Wing/Leighton Buzzard Road, then on to The Buckingham/ Winslow road, lining with the Buckingham Park By-Pass, on to Berryfields and the Bicester Road and from there the Oxford/ Thame Road. We need to let the traffic flow outside of the Aylesbury Town not grind to a halt in the town centre. And this is before HS2 major works cutting across at least two of these roads. So imagine the chaos that lies ahead if nothing is planned to start very soon. It is time for Buckinghamshire Council to stop sitting on their hands until it is too late and Aylesbury Roads just grind to a halt for many hours every day. Surely the council could see this coming?
