RAF HALTON

New Station Commander

In August, RAF Halton welcomed their new Station Commander Group Captain Garwood.

Group Captain Garwood joined the Royal Air Force direct from school in January 1992, largely thanks to the Air Training Corps and a Sixth Form Scholarship. Following commissioning and professional training he spent his formative years in Royal Air Force Regiment squadron appointments in the Falklands, Germany, London and North Yorkshire. He has a wealth of experience, the majority of which has been on frontline flying stations overlaid with operations, training and staff duties.

During his first full week in command, Group Captain Garwood met personnel throughout the Station. In his address to the Station, he said: “I am genuinely excited to be here at Royal Air Force Halton, to play my part, and contribute to our continued success. I can already sense the importance of everything we do, and how the Service relies on us and our supported units.”

Welcome new Commandant

On 15 August the RAF’s Central Training School (located at RAF Halton) welcomed Group Captain Dave Melmoth as its fourth Commandant. Having completed his Training Officer course at RAF Halton in 2002, and worked on the Station 2014-16 and 201820, he is delighted to return to command the Central Training School. Responsible for RAF Ground Training analysis, training design/delivery enhancement, and assurance, he will also undertake the role of Head of Training Specialisation – providing future direction for the RAF’s cadre of Training Officers and Physical Training Instructors. He said: “I’m thrilled to be back at RAF Halton to lead the Central Training School in our enduring endeavour to continuously improve RAF Training and I look forward to shaping things to deliver the Next Generation Air Force for Defence.”
