Club Corner
Aylesbury Dolls House Club
The club meets at Halton Village Hall on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm. Following a successful exhibition and fair, we are now back to our smaller club projects, and in October we made glow-in-the-dark ghosts. In November we will be completing the 1/48th scale bedrooms made earlier in the year, and marking Christmas, by adding a Christmas-decorated fireplace to the room. Any new members will be made most welcome. Contact Diane on 07899090399 or arcadia96@btinternet.com.
1st Apollo Scouts at Kop Hill
On 24 & 25 September, a group of Scouts from 1st Wendover Apollo Scouts spent the weekend at the Kop Hill Climb in Princes Risborough racing their home made soap boxes.
Having spent months designing and building the soap boxes with the help of their scout leaders and parents, two groups were ready to race - Team Time Travellers and Apollo Racing. They had anamazing time test-riding and then racing for real, and the Apollo Racing team came away with 1st place for the furthest distance travelled. We are very proud of them all!
We continually face a growing demand of young people wanting to join our troop and are always in need of a bit of additional help. If you feel you could offer a skill or just a bit of time every now and then to help with Scouts, we would love to hear from you. This could include cycling, sailing or canoeing on a lovely summer's evening or cooking marshmallows on an open fire in the rain in February with everything in between! If you are interested in finding out more please do get in touch by emailing apollo@1stwendoverscouts.co.uk.
Outdoors and Indoors, there's plenty going on with the Wildlife Trust
After forgoing alcohol in October we need to get outside and start building up a thirst for the Christmas period just around the corner... Nothing could be better than a crisp morning among the fallen leaves doing some essential conservation work on a local reserve. Bacombe Hill is one that has vacancies on its regular team and if you contact volunteering@bbowt.org.uk, Wayne will send you details of this and alternatives which you can view on https://www.bbowt.org.uk/volunteering-opportunities. These include at Dancersend where we can always use a few more willing hands to complete the plans deriving from the Rothschild grant, which will be covered in an online talk by Mick Jones at 7.30pm on 16 November.
If indoor activities are more your thing, the College Lake Learning Team led by Sarah Close has launched a very full programme of hands-on sessions for all age groups from
Nature Tots on 15 and 17 Nov, through Young Ranger and Teen Ranger Wildlife Clubs on 12 Nov and not forgetting a Wellbeing event for Women on Fri 4 Nov and an adults Christmas Card Workshop on Sun 27 Nov. The Reserve, visitor centre, shop and café are normally open from 10am to 3.30pm every day except Monday. On Tuesday 15 Nov, a distinguished Woodland Trust speaker will talk 'All about Woods' at 7.45 pm at Gt Missenden Memorial Centre (admission £5, no need to book). Thanks to all who contributed to the Plant and Produce Market on 9 October raising over £800 for the Trust.
BBOWT events are popular so it's best to book early by going online at events@ bbowt.org.uk or contact me for help.

Wendover Bowls Club
First I must congratulate our team playing in the Chiltern and Thames League on getting through to the final. Though they didn't win they finished in Bronze medal position.
We finished our outdoor season with the match between teams representing the Chairman and the Captain. This game is always popular as it is our last chance to play on grass before we move indoors. We managed to squeeze in eight rinks across the green which made it pretty cosy and your bowl didn't have to stray far before you found you had joined the game next door. After a long afternoon's effort the Chairman's team won by one shot whereupon we all retired to the clubhouse for a splendid supper.
Next morning more than thirty members turned up to put the green to bed. In a couple of hours all the benches and chairs are stored away, the mats retrieved from the ditch around the green and the furniture in the clubhouse reconfigured for the indoor season. It is always a bit of a worry how we will play after the change from outdoor to indoor bowis. They are such different animals, one requiring a degree of physical strength and the other a more delicate touch. Well, we started on a high in our first game with a whitewash against Marsh Gibbon, winning all four of our games. Now all we have to do is keep it up for the rest of the season. One can only dream.

Wendover Art Club
The Wendover Art Club's year got off to a brilliant start with a demo by local artist Mark Fennell, who studied Art at Amersham College. His first career was as an Art Director in advertising but he became disillusioned with this, turning to professional portraiture in oils.

For his demonstration Mark used a photo image displayed on a tablet, a few feet away, similar to the distance with a live model. Mark avoids the use of a grid to help transfer an image to his board and instead uses his brush to measure distances and angles as shown in the image.
When not working to a very tight demo deadline Mark can take some 3 or 4 days to complete a portrait. If you would like to see more of Mark’s work or were thinking of commissioning him (he does dogs as well as humans!) please visit his website at https:// markfennell.co.uk
