Wendover Canal Trust Update, Spring 2023
Wendover Canal Trust Photo Competition Winners Announced
Robbie Cumming, tv personality, vlogger and patron of the Wendover Canal Trust (WCT) has chosen the three winners of the Trust’s photography competition.
The competition was launched to entice people to the Wendover Canal during the autumn and winter. The Trust invited pictures that capture the different scenes of the Wendover Canal whether wildlife, the landscapes or people using the canal and towpath.
Said Robbie: “It was difficult to single out winners but I liked the one I chose first because it captures the canal from a slightly unfamiliar angle which makes it stand out. It’s also crisply edited to enhance the detail in the icy scene. Well done to all, though. There were some excellent submissions.”
The winner of the competition with a £100 prize is Alun Morgan from Princes Risborough; second is Charlotte Borrill from Linslade, who wins £50 and third place with a £25 prize goes to Stephen Smith of Watford.
Pictures submitted for the competition may well be included in WCT publications and the Trust is most grateful to the nearly 40 photographers who entered.
WCT Working Party - February 2023
Between 3 and 10 February, in a ‘first’ for Wendover Canal Trust, its volunteers constructed a trial length of towpath at Little Tring, funded by Chilterns Conservation Board and Herts County Council, in order to demonstrate the feasibility and cost of their carrying out this work.
It was a busy week for Wendover Canal Trust’s volunteers who also carried out vegetation clearance along the towpath between Wendover and Halton (photos, right). This is another ‘first’ for WCT, as this work would generally be carried out by the owners, Canal & River Trust (CRT). The vegetation work is a necessary first step before this stretch’s upgrade, which will then be able to take place in the spring / summer. The exact distance to be upgraded is expected to be confirmed by CRT by March.
