Concert Sunday 9 July 7.30 pm, St Mary's Wendover Music presents two exciting quartets for its only concert this year.

Formed in 2016, the Paris-based QUATUOR AGATE studied at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin with Eberhard Feltz and in Paris under the guidance of Mathieu Herzog and with the Quatuor Ebène at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich. In 2021, they were prizewinners at the Young Classical Artists Trust International Auditions. Highlights this season include debut recitals at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Alte Oper Frankfurt and the Lammermuir Festival in Scotland. They return to Wigmore Hall and collaborate with the Modigliani Quartet at the Tauber Philharmonie and the Diotima Quartet at the Lange Nacht der Streichquartette in Munich. In 2023 they recorded the complete Brahms Quartets for the Naïve label. They join us to play: Schubert –String Quartet in D minor, D810 Death and the Maiden Brahms – Intermezzo No 2 in A, Op 118 arranged for string quartet.
BONE-AFIDE is an international chamber ensemble made up of some of Europe’s leading young trombonists. The group strives to showcase the versatility of the trombone, performing works from all genres and periods with the aim of defying stereotypes surrounding the instrument. In 2020, the quartet became joint winners of the International Trombone Association Quartet competition. Later in the same year, they became a recipient of the prestigious Tunnell Trust Award, which saw the group perform a number of concerts throughout Scotland in 2022. After more successful auditions, BONE-AFIDE are thrilled to have won the Royal Philharmonic Society Philip Jones Prize and are Recital Series artists of the Countess of Munster Trust. The group launched their first album, ‘Christmas with Bone-afide’ in November 2021, and have recently released their second album, ‘Folk-bone’, with World of Sound. Their dance-based programme includes:

Dan Jenkins - Ballet Medley
Tchaikovsky - Highlights from Swan Lake
Bach - Air from Orchestral Suite no. 3 & Badinerie from Orchestral Suite no. 2
Callum Au - Four Dances
Brian Lynn - Trombone Quartet
Pablo Beltran Ruiz – Sway.
Wendover Evening WI
Wendover Evening WI celebrated the Coronation of King Charles with a party for 60 in St Anne's Hall. The hall was decorated in red, white and blue and the ladies dressed to match. Cate Bowley won the Crown Competition with her amazing piece made entirely from recycled tomato purée tubes! Pin the Diamond on the Crown, Royal Bingo, Royal Quiz and a Sensory Game were all played to great hilarity.
Bowls Club for June 2023
Aylesbury Dolls House Club Name
Aylesbury Dolls House Club has changed its name to Chiltern Miniaturists Club. Aims and meet-up details are still the same - 7.30 pm on the first Wednesday of each month at Halton Village Hall - but we felt that the new name better reflected what we do and who we are. This month’s project is to make 1/12th scale paper flowers, in preparation for a floral wreath in July. Contact Diane on 07899090399 or arcadia96@btinternet.com if you’d like to join.
Wendover Friends of Guiding

The Friends of Guiding Committee welcomes anyone who is interested in helping to provide a safe place for guides to meet. You don’t have to be a parent to get involved! Our AGM will be held on Wednesday 7 June at the Guide Hut.

The escalating rook saga seems to be at an end; they obviously read Wendover News, saw my request for rook pie recipes, and took fright. This month’s highlight was a ‘President’s Day’ courtesy of our President, John Firmin, a stalwart of the club; it was a very special day and we owe him a great debt of gratitude. We also have to thank Agripower, Chiltern View Nursery and Riley’s Farm Shop who have sponsored a very smart new scoreboard for us.

After 9 years, Julia, our current Group Secretary, is standing down in September. We are now looking for someone to fill her shoes. The role includes issuing agendas and keeping the meeting minutes. An understanding of scouting is helpful but not essential; a DBS check is required. If you would like more information, please get in touch with Andrew.inkley@1stwendoverscouts.co.uk
