STEM MBA at Texas Tech is the first graduate program of its kind in the state of Texas,
designed to give STEM students the business analytical skills necessary to be successful in management and leadership roles.
Technically trained STEM students are seldom armed with the business skills needed to compete. To address this need, the Rawls College of Business created a one-year MBA program designed to complement a STEM student’s technical background. The focus in the classroom is on general business; the difference lies in the emphasis on STEM applications, along with elective classes geared specifically toward STEM disciplines. ACCT 5301 Financial & Managerial Acct. The objectives, structure, and substance of financial reports and the use of accounting in the management of an organization. MGT 5372 Leadership & Ethics Students apply alternative leadership and ethical perspectives through cognitive skill building and experiential learning to accelerate their development as authentic leaders. FIN 5320 Financial Mgmt. Concepts Essential financial management concepts with applications to financial decision making in organizations. Special emphasis on cases and computer financial models. MKT 5360 Marketing Concepts & Strategies Examine marketing functions, the institutions which perform them, and the study of marketing planning, strategy, and tactics. Includes the organization, execution, and control of the marketing effort.

Design Examines management of individual, interpersonal, group and intergroup relations, organizational design, and the organization’s role in a rapidly changing environmental and global context. ISQS 5331 Information Technology & Op. Mgmt. Current topics in information technology and operations management and examines how to utilize them to gain competitive advantage. BA 5322 Technology Commercialization Recognize, screen and develop technology opportunities to become commercial products and services. ISQS 5330 Decision Theory & Bus. Analytics An overview of business analytics and examines normative and behavioral theories that drive managerial decision making.
BCOM 5376 Strategic Bus. Communication A strategic approach to professional business communication with diverse internal and external stakeholders. A focus on credibility, persuasion, group facilitation, ethics, and case analysis. ISQS 5345 Statistical Concepts for Bus. & Mgmt. Statistical applications using the personal computer, with emphasis on proper presentation and interpretation of statistics in managerial settings. Topics include descriptive statistics, graphical methods, estimation, testing, regression, forecasting, and quality control. MGT 5391 Strategic & Global Mgmt. Global and local strategy formula-
tion and implementation of corporate, business, and functional strategies. MKT 5381 STEM Theories in Practice Addresses how topics in science, technology, and engineering are utilized in business practice. BLAW 5390 Legal, Regulatory, & Ethical Envir. of Business Examine the legal, regulatory, and ethical issues that arise in the conduct of business to develop a capacity for recognizing and dealing with such issues.
BECO 5310 (3 hrs) Economic Analysis for Business Studies markets in which firms compete within the context of a global supply chain, including markets for good & services, financial markets, and labor. Emphasizes how the interactions of these markets affect the formulation and implementation of business strategies. All classes are offered in a condensed format taking place over either 5 or 8 weeks. Attendance Policy Students are expected to attend all course meetings and stay for the entire class duration. In exceptional circumstances in which absence is unavoidable (e.g., serious illness, death in the family), students should notify the instructor prior to the absence. Students may be requested to provide documentation of the event, and make alternative arrangements with the course instructor. Students who fail to at-

tend scheduled class meetings may be required to repeat the course. Late Assignments It is the student’s responsibility to request an extension if a situation arises that prevents completion of any assignment by the due date. Late assignments may be subject to a grade reduction at the instructor’s discretion. Failure to submit assignments by the last date during the term, as designated by the instructor, may result in an “F” for that assignment. Grading Credit is granted only for courses completed with grades of A, B, or C. Grades of D and F are used in computing grade point averages. A plus or a minus added to a grade will be entered on the transcript, but will not be used in calculating grade point aver-
age. A grade of “CR” indicates the course extends past the grading period for that semester. Students are required to have a minimum 3.0 GPA in order to graduate. Grades are posted on the “MyTech” tab of the Raiderlink portal. Professors will post grades by the final due date indicated on the Academic calendar.

Academic Probation & Suspension If a student’s cumulative GPA falls below 3.0, they will be placed on academic probation. The student has two consecutive semesters to raise their cumulative GPA to a 3.0. If the student’s GPA remains below 3.0 during probation, the student is subject to suspension. A student placed on suspension will be required to remain out of Graduate School for one semester, and will need to reapply to the program. If a student is suspended two times

Transfer Credits & Distance Courses Any transfer of credit from another university is subject to review and approval by the graduate dean. Work completed with a grade of less than B will not be considered.
