FULL SIZE ASSIGNMENT 1 LOCATION: Edgewater Topography The building we visit this time is located at a hill which means the topography is not totally tie. So, before the land owner sale the land they have to have some treatment to the land. Such as put the reinforce concrete on the cliff in order to keep the soil can not move. Because the concrete is not good at tension so they put reinforce into the concrete for increase its strength. The house will br built away from the concrete so the building will not get force if the concrete wall will fall to the building.

Ground treatment: Because the soil on the hill is not stable so those builder have to put such white tube into the ground for keep the soil stable. They have to drag a big hole about 1m*1m big and put the tube into the ground. After that both inside and the arounding of the tube will be filing up by soil. The method is able to increase the density of the soil so that it will become more stable.

Foundation System: Because we are not able to walk into the construction site so we can not see the footing of the building and how it works. The builder said the footing it uses is the pad footing which is able to provide more reaction force by large contact area.

Framework: The building is mostly uses frame system and the material is steel and wood. We are interested find that the material they use between the first floor and the second floor is different. The builder said that the material using is according to the request and the construction budget. Steel is more stable but it is much more expensive than timber. Compare with the building on the other side they use steel on both first floor and second floor because the it has three stores in all!

Polystyrene: Polystyrene (PS) is a synthetic aromatic polymer made from the monomer styrene, a liquid petrochemical. Polystyrene can be rigid or foamed. General purpose polystyrene is clear, hard and brittle. It is a very inexpensive resin per unit weight. It is a rather poor barrier to oxygen and water vapor and has a relatively low melting point. Polystyrene is one of the most widely used plastics, the scale of its production being several billion kilograms per year.Polystyrene can be naturally transparent, but can be colored with colorants. Uses include protective packaging (such as packing peanuts and CD and DVDcases), containers (such as "clamshells"), lids, bottles, trays, tumblers, and disposable cutlery. Polystyrene is used to make napalm-B, where it makes up about 46% of the formulation. (By Wiki) Polystyrene normally be used in the construction for isolate heat and noisy and it also be setted between two walls

Joints: From observation we find that mos of joint is Fixed Joints which is more stable bout not about t change the direct of the force
