Earning her degree in biology, magna cum laude, with a minor in studio art, Monica credits Wesleyan’s liberal arts curriculum with allowing her to combine this unique set of interests. “To go into the ceramics studio and work creatively with my hands is an incredible escape from the rigors of the academics of biology. I found that working with clay and 3D sculpting tools made me better at using a scalpel during dissections in the biology lab. These transferable skills have influenced the way I hold my hand and the way I apply pressure.”

An internship during the spring of her junior year, solidified Monica’s plan to attend medical school to become a primary care physician in Georgia. Observing the struggles people from different socio-economic backgrounds have in getting quality healthcare ignited Monica’s desire to practice in rural and under-served communities in the areas of obstetrics and gynecology.

Today, Monica is a student at Mercer University School of Medicine.

Life outside the classroom is a pretty big component of days at Wesleyan. You won’t just take classes. You’ll become passionate about all that Wesleyan offers - the personal challenge, the lifelong friendships, and the never-ending pursuit of ideas and ideals. You have the talent to do great things and you don’t have to do them alone. With access to the people and resources you need to tailor your learning and living experiences, you’ll be encouraged to nurture and showcase your gifts. You might try out for any of Wesleyan’s six NCAA Division III athletic teams, the equestrian team, or join one of our many clubs or organizations. With a dozen academic honor societies and about two dozen clubs and musical groups, the pace of life at Wesleyan is anything but boring.

The most important advantage of a Wesleyan College education is the quality of the interactions you will have with professors who are here because they want to work closely with students, get to know them, and have an impact on their lives. Since our classes typically have fewer than twenty students, you’ll be expected to debate, discuss, and defend your opinions. Your professors will help you choose experiences that are based on your unique strengths, interests, and goals. All students

have opportunities to work closely with faculty on original work. And when you need a letter of recommendation for a job or for graduate school, your professors will know just how to support you.

You won’t find a large lecture hall on the Wesleyan campus. Our professors teach seminar style and expect students to join in the conversation. Wesleyan’s full-time faculty members hold the highest degrees in their fields.

EXPERIENCE THE FIRST-YEAR

The First-Year Experience at Wesleyan College is designed to motivate and inspire first-year students to reach their full academic potential while transitioning from high school and enjoying the college experience. In collaboration with the Academic Resource Center, first-year students will have access to academic success resources including workshops, tutoring, and mentorships, so all

students will receive a studentcentered, academically challenging, and relevant liberal arts education.

All first-year Wesleyan students are required to take WISe 101, an interdisciplinary seminar course and a Transition to College Lab, introducing students to academic life at Wesleyan while assessing, developing, and refining their college success skills.

Committed to our values of educational opportunities and excellence, Wesleyan College has provided a pathway for students to accelerate their course of study by completing both their bachelor’s degree and their master’s degree in approximately five years of full-time study, saving both time and money. Students can take up to six credit hours in one of our graduate programs, while still enrolled as an undergraduate student.

Students must apply for admission to the 4+1 program in their junior year of study. If accepted to the program, the student will take two graduate courses during their senior year.

WE PREPARE DOCTORS, LAWYERS, JUDGES, CEOS, ENTREPRENEURS AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN.

A hallmark of the Wesleyan experience is the opportunity to conduct research as an undergraduate in the labs of Wesleyan faculty, and our institutional support for the presentation of independent research by students at professional meetings.

Biology and neuroscience double major Andrea Felix ’21 knew that medical schools look for students who have developed research skills as an undergraduate. Being able to do research was an essential part of Andrea’s decision to apply to Wesleyan.

“I wanted to start conducting research on my first day. Dr. Holly Cole (assistant professor of psychology) welcomed me into her lab with open arms and I worked with her all four years.” Cole’s 2021 research studied how the perceived threat of COVID-19 impacts a person’s willingness to behave in ways that promote the wellbeing of others during the pandemic. Behaviors such as wearing a mask, avoiding large crowds, etc.

“Working with a professor in her lab allowed each student to grow into better teammates and improve skills like communication, finding previous research, and ideation. I used these skills in other classes, too. I learned to take the lead and instruct others on making valuable contributions to a team.”

MUNROE SCIENCE CENTER

A state-of-the-art facility that includes modern teaching laboratories, fully equipped research laboratories, multiple ancillary support spaces including a greenhouse, multi-species animal colony, cell culture facility, neurophysiology lab, and microscopy room.

MOCK ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM

We strive to build relationships, address multiple learning styles, and incorporate creativity, storytelling, nature-smart learning, and play across the subject matter. The elementary education major will find herself publishing a children’s book, going on a scavenger hunt to demonstrate mathematical teaching methods, hosting a storytelling festival, traveling to outdoor playgrounds, and hiking in our on-site arboretum.

SIMULATION LAB

Wesleyan’s nursing simulation lab is equipped with six human patient simulators; a state-of-the-art control room containing audio and video equipment capable of recording all student simulator experiences; a pediatric intensive care unit; a medication dispensing system; and several other unique features.

MURPHEY ART BUILDING

The ample space in Murphey rivals that at many larger institutions, and offers the equipment necessary to explore 2D, 3D, and multi-media art making. Murphey is surrounded on 3 sides by a 100-acre arboretum that provides an outdoor classroom to explore creativity and innovation through the lens of nature.

ACADEMIC RESOURCES

Wesleyan offers a modern library that benefits not only the Wesleyan community but also alumnae and the entire Macon community. All three floors feature silent study areas and are zoned with noise levels that are appropriate for the purpose.

The first floor of Willet Memorial Library is a fullservice learning, research, and project space integrating sophisticated technology into a comfortable, welcoming setting. It offers access to information resources in a variety of spaces that

facilitate both collaborative and quiet, focused work. A large open room with roving whiteboards, computers, and a variety of seating areas, provides students with casual places to meet, interact, and study 24 hours a day. The first floor, zoned collaborative, is also the home for a consortium of student resources including the Academic Center, the Tutoring Program, the Testing Center, and the Writing Center. Other features include a design lab with a 3D scanner and a 3D printer, video recording and editing equipment, and the full Adobe Creative Suite.

The second floor, zoned as quiet, houses classrooms and group study areas that allow for more focused but still collaborative study.

The third floor houses the majority of our collection, including most of our circulating collection, and features archival storage, exhibit and work areas, quiet study areas, and two study rooms. It is zoned as silent.

ACHIEVING ACADEMIC SUCCESS

Our primary goal is to assist students in achieving academic success. Recognizing that different students have different needs, many and various on-campus resources are provided to support a student’s academic concerns, needs, and goals.

The Academic Resource Center offers programs and services that promote the development and academic success of Wesleyan College students. It consists of the Writing Center, the Testing Center, and study zones for student use.

The Writing Center is available to all students who would like help improving their writing skills in general or enhancing a piece of writing in particular. The ability to write effectively is one of the most important factors an employer considers in the hiring process.

The Tutoring Program provides free academic counseling and tutoring for students who seek to improve understanding of course content and academic success skills. One-on-one sessions or group peer-assisted study sessions are available.

The Office of Student Disability Services is committed to supporting students with disabilities in their academic, social, and emotional success. The director of disability and advocacy services offers counseling for academic issues and serves as the coordinator of disability services.

The Center for Leadership and Involvement (CLI) strives to enhance the student experience through active and diverse engagement opportunities in the Wesleyan community. CLI supports the mission of the College by overseeing functional areas that contribute to the student experience including, but not limited to, faith and service, campus activities and student organizations, Student Government Association, the First Year Experience, and membership in the CEO Leadership Institute.

Creating Equal Opportunity Leadership Institute (CEO) Wesleyan’s CEO Leadership Institute offers a transformational cohort experience for driven students. Institute members will enhance their leadership skills, gain a competitive advantage through 4:1 mentorship in peer, career, academic, and alumnae connections, support, events, and individual mentors. Institute graduates will benefit from exposure to top CEO’s, experiential learning, workshops, and professional and leadership certificates.

Wesleyan faculty members offer short-term experiences as part of academic courses to give students a supportive international experience. Past courses have taken students to Italy, France, Germany, Costa Rica, Jamaica, The Netherlands, and Belize.

Wesleyan partners with numerous organizations that provide study and internship opportunities globally. AIFS, Arcos Abroad, CIEE, CIS, and IES Abroad allow students to find discipline-specific programs or programs in unique places in the world.

During the summer after her junior year, Xin served as an Overton Research Fellow at California Lutheran University. “Before the internship I was interested in the data analysis field in business but wasn’t sure it was what I wanted to pursue as a career. I became sure of that plan during the internship. The more I learned about data analysis, the more I loved it. I successfully improved my research, writing, communication, public speaking, and teamwork skills. I also developed networking skills and became more confident socially.”

Catherine urges all students to experience an internship. “They are a good approach to explore the professional field you are interested in, demonstrate what you’ve learned in class, and prepare for your future.”

Wesleyan’s Center for Career Development will help facilitate your internship process and help you maximize your experience.”

After graduation, Catherine went to Columbia University to earn her master of science in economics.

INTERNAL MEDICINE-HOSPITALIST

While studying at Wesleyan, Nigerian native Ihunanya was selected for a summer medical education program at Yale University School of Medicine, and the following summer she was selected for the Gateways to the Laboratory Program sponsored by the Weill Cornell/Rockefeller/Sloan-Kettering Tri-Institute M.D.-Ph.D. program. Ihunanya graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in 2012. While at Duke she had several opportunities to experience tremendous personal growth that clarified her professional goals, including brief outreach work in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and a year-long research project as an NIHFogarty Scholar in Gaborone, Botswana, at the Botswana-Harvard AIDS Institute Partnership.

The following year, she decided to earn a joint master’s degree in health policy, planning, and financing at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the London School of Economics.

JESSICA GUERRERO ’20

SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR

Jessica spent the summer of her junior year working as an intern at Amazon. An advertising and marketing communication major, she gained first-hand experience on Amazon’s social media customer service team.

Leading a team of eight, she was responsible for communicating and providing helpful responses to customers via social media. She created individual development plans, helped associates understand the performance bar, and supported them in reaching their goals.

She was also in charge of a project aimed at developing a mechanism for controlling egregious issues such as threats to CEOs and reputation-damaging comments on social media. Jessica developed a concept that Amazon plans to implement globally.

After graduation, Jessica accepted a full-time job with Amazon. Her advice to students is, “always give any internship your very best because the connections and experiences will help prepare you for future jobs.”

“I met important stakeholders at Amazon and worked with other interns from around the nation. I learned about leadership and the importance of caring for employees and customers.”

PREPARING FOR WHAT’S NEXT

“I had internships after my first and sophomore years, both at the University of Minnesota. My first was in the Department of Organic Chemistry and the second was in the Department of Physical Chemistry. I would definitely recommend internships to others. They help students develop experimental, communication, and leadership skills that are important for success in graduate school and in the work place.”

Wesleyan’s Center for Career Development (CCD) will work with you to define your goals and to build a comprehensive, life-changing plan to get you there. In 2022, West No. 5 seeded Wesleyan College, NCAA Division III Collegiate Conference of the South, finished the 2021-2022 USA South softball season with a school record of twenty-four wins, including its first four post-season wins in the school’s history, and an overall record of 24-16.

NCAA DIVISION III COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE OF THE SOUTH

According to a national survey, students at women’s colleges are almost three times more likely to be involved in varsity athletics than at co-ed public universities. As members of the Division III Collegiate Conference of the South, Wesleyan is home to six NCAA Division III sports: basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, track, and volleyball, plus, an equestrian team and club cheer team.

Our athletes are competitive on the court, on the field, and in the classroom. Led by an outstanding coaching staff, Wolves regularly win All-Conference and All-Academic honors.

FIRST YEAR COMPETITION

In 2022, Wesleyan’s competition club cheer team took home gold and silver honors during their first year of competition. The Wolves ranked 2021-2022 CCA Classic Champions and 2021-2022 CCA National 2nd Place Champions!

WESLEYAN EQUESTRIAN

ONE OF ONLY 10 WOMEN’S COLLEGES IN THE U.S. TO HAVE A TEAM

Wesleyan competes in the IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Show Association) in both hunt seat and western against schools that include: Clemson University, College of Charleston, Georgia Southern University, University of South Carolina, Lander University, and Converse College.

Wesleyan joined the Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) in 2019 and added dressage to its team competition making it the only school in Georgia competing in IDA. With just three team riders at their first IDA Show, Wesleyan was the third-place team and the Reserve Champion High Point Team, putting the Wolves in the running to earn regional standings. Two Wesleyan equestrians qualified for IDA nationals in their first year of dressage competition.

Just a short walk from residence halls, Wesleyan’s Nancy Ellis Knox Equestrian Center is located on campus within the Mathews Athletic Complex. The facility includes a 24-stall openair barn for lesson horses, student horses, and community boarders; six turnout paddocks; three hot/cold water wash racks; climatecontrolled tack room; separate boarder tack room; student lounge; classroom; private lockers for team riders; a covered dressage arena; and a large jumping arena with lights. Students may board their horses for a fee.

MINOR IN EQUINE ASSISTED THERAPY Training is conducted on the ground rather than in the saddle. Taught by both equestrian and psychology faculty, this course of study will greatly benefit students interested in combining their love for horses with a passion for helping others.

ARBORETUM

OUTDOOR LEARNING LABORATORY

The arboretum comprises 100 acres of mixed pine and hardwood forest, and can be found in the back of Wesleyan’s campus. More than 100 species of trees, shrubs, and woody vines provide habitat for a diverse assortment of salamanders, snakes, lizards, and mammals, as well as more than 150 species of resident and migratory birds.

The five-acre Foster Lake, three streams, and seasonal rain pools are home to nine species of turtles, fourteen species of frogs, and both native and game fish.

Dice Anderson Cabin, a three-room split-log cabin built in 1938, serves as a rustic focal point for student gatherings and special events. More than two miles of trails interlace the forest and provide year-round opportunities for hiking and cross-country running.

The area is a remarkable resource not only for recreation and reflection, but also for use as an outdoor learning laboratory that promotes a nature-smart curriculum for Wesleyan faculty and students, as well as local teachers and school children, youth organizations, researchers, and the Central Georgia community.

Education major Zoe was taking a biology class to fulfill a general education requirement and discovered it was one of her favorite classes. She credits Professor of Biology Dr. Holly Boettger-Tong for helping her uncover her love for science. Zoe changed her major to environmental studies, kept education as her minor, and looked for a new way to apply her studies to a successful and satisfying career.

Associate Professor of Education Dr. Virginia Bowman Wilcox ’90 helped Zoe arrange two internships. Interning at Macon’s Museum of

Arts and Sciences, Zoe says, turned out to be one of the most meaningful experiences of her time at Wesleyan, but it was an internship at Montessori of Macon that reignited her love for teaching. After one semester teaching ecology, Zoe was invited back to teach for another semester.

“The Montessori classroom fits so perfectly with my values and ideas about education and gives me countless opportunities to share my love of environmental science with my students. In March I was offered a job at the school.”

A SAFE CAMPUS IS A HAPPY CAMPUS

Wesleyan College employs Synergy Security Services (SSS) to provide safety and security on campus. SSS provides licensed security officers that patrol campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The safety officers are licensed by the State of Georgia to carry a firearm. The security team will work in tandem with Bibb County Sheriff’s department. You can reach the on-duty safety officer to report suspicious behavior, request an escort, or for other needs that can be addressed by your campus safety team. Any incident that is criminal in nature should be reported to campus safety immediately.

The Wesleyan campus safety officers conduct rounds and constant surveillance in order to ensure safety for the students, employees, and visitors. Wesleyan College uses the Omnilert service we call WesAlert for notifying individuals about campus emergencies. You are automatically enrolled as an active user if you are faculty, staff, or student with a Wesleyan email address. In the event of an emergency, a text message will be sent by a College official directly to all cell phones registered with the service. The College’s emergency procedures web page lists detailed instructions in the event of a campuswide emergency.

Open World scholarship ($46,000 annually, $184,000 total) Wesleyan’s premier, full-ride scholarship, awarded to four students annually. The Open World scholarship will allow women outside of the United States to enroll and receive the tools to empower their development in whatever career field they choose. Awarded to international students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievements through their application materials, and scholarship form application. Open World scholars will receive a stipend to purchase living supplies, participate in social opportunities and travel on excursions. Full-ride for 4 years.

CEO Women in Leadership scholarship ($25,000 annually, $100,000 total) Wesleyan’s most prestigious scholarship, awarded by President Blight to students who demonstrate exceptional leadership through academics and extracurricular activities. 10 awarded annually.

Global Leaders scholarship ($20,000 annually, $80,000 total) Awarded to students who demonstrate an impressive blend of extracurricular activities through their admission application materials. 10 awarded annually.

International Entrance Scholarships Wesleyan College awards entrance scholarships based on academic credentials presented in the application process. Amounts range from $5,000$15,000. Awards amounts vary based on application round applied to.

In addition to international scholarships, students accepted by February 1st are eligible to be considered for competition for Wesleyan’s academic premier scholarships through the Scholarship Day competition in March.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Application for Admission and Personal Statement:

Submission of Wesleyan’s online application is required for all students. In the application, students submit their personal statement.

Official high school transcripts or Score Reports in English. Submission of predicted score reports are accepted.

Standardized Test Scores (test optional) If SAT or ACT, test results do not appear on your transcripts, arrange for a formal report of all college entrance exams to be sent to Wesleyan by the testing agency. Wesleyan’s identification codes are: SAT 5895; ACT 0876.

English Language Proficiency Test:

• TOEFL IBT: minimum of 213 (computer based), 80 (internet based), or 550 (paper based) Wesleyan’s identification code for the TOEFL 5895
