FIRST FOR WOMEN

TO DISCOVER WESLEYAN

PROUD TO BE A WOMEN’S COLLEGE Wesleyan College is committed to women’s education and helping every student find her voice and purpose. Founded in 1836 as the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women and shaped by Methodist values, Wesleyan provides students an academically challenging and relevant liberal arts education. Wesleyan draws a wonderfully eclectic mix of women – about 800 in all – from across the United States and a variety of countries around the world, bringing to campus a multitude of backgrounds and ethnicities. Wesleyan students choose to study here because they want to test their limits. The bar is set high because our students demand it. First for Women isn’t just a claim to fame - it’s a philosophy that explains why Wesleyan women continue to make history today.

WHY WESLEYAN? “BEST. DECISION. EVER. Not only did I find my voice in my WISe 101 class, but I made long-lasting and cherished friendships with so many people. Sisterhood is what made Wesleyan so great for me.” – Joi Raushan ’18

RESIDENTIAL CAMPUS Most traditional undergraduate students live on campus, which is one of the primary benefits of the distinctive Wesleyan experience. Residence hall living provides a healthy environment for you to grow socially and intellectually.

THE WORLD IS YOUR CAMPUS

In addition to living and studying with peers from all over the world, students are encouraged to participate in a study abroad experience or join the faculty on planned study-travel courses to places like China, Greece, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, the Netherlands, and South Korea. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, study abroad has been suspended for academic year 2020-2021.

EVERYONE BELONGS

A model of racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic inclusion and success, Wesleyan students hail from across the U.S. and around the world. The Office of Equity and Inclusion provides support, advocacy, and intentional learning opportunities to engage all campus community members in the understanding and awareness of inclusive practices and to foster equitable working, living, and learning shared spaces and environments.

100%

OF WESLEYAN’S FULLTIME UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS WILL HAVE AN INTERNSHIP OR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCE.

By participating in student activities, students will gain leadership skills, work with many different constituencies both on and off campus, learn valuable skills to be used in the workforce, relieve stress, make new friends, and have fun. Established groups focus on themes ranging from political awareness to spiritual development to music appreciation. Join any club, student organization, special interest group, leadership board, religious group, or service organization that captures your attention!

WHAT WESLEYAN STUDENTS ARE SAYING ABOUT Their Professional development Experience “I was able to rule out a career path and narrow my choice so I know exactly what I want to do. I’m not simply choosing one of my options. I feel confident about my decision.” - Allison Hunt, May 2020 graduate “This experience shows potential researchers that I understand what goes into managing a lab. Now I have an advantage when applying to graduate school or other research assistant positions.” - Anna Marmolejo, May 2020 graduate

Their Professional Practice Seminar course “Great class! Even though I came into the class with an established career path, I took away valuable information as to how to even further promote my skills and improve my marketability, especially via lectures on interview techniques, LinkedIn, and continued personal development.” - Kimberly Smith, August 2020 graduate “I thoroughly enjoyed the class, the teacher, and the material covered. I can honestly say I learned a lot in this course that will help me in my everyday position and future career.” - Courtney Moore, December 2020 graduate
