Community Ministries More Than Enough Love Day Devote a day working alongside a group in a variety of settings in our local neighborhoods. Anderson Elementary Our school partnership is centered around relationships and a spirit of involvement. Volunteers can serve as tutors, cafeteria monitors, nurse’s aides, office workers, mentors, as schedules allow. Braes Interfaith Ministries (BIM) Westbury UMC is a part of a coalition of 12 congregations in Southwest Houston that make up BIM. Global Ministries United Methodist Mission in Cameroon The UMC has a relatively new presence in Cameroon. To support the mission, Westbury UMC has helped lead music workshops and provided eyeglasses for the health clinic. Haitian Artisans for Peace International (HAPI) Empowering Haitians to develop their own solutions and help their families and communities live to their fullest potential. Projects include artisan fair trade, microbusiness loans, health services, maternal care and children’s enrichment activities. Fundraising opportunities are held annually. Worship & Hospitality Vocal Choirs The Sanctuary Choir meets Thursdays at 7 pm in the Music Suite. This adult choir leads in worship with music that spans across history and cultures. A newly formed Young Adult Choir for those in their 20s and 30s sings on occasion, rehearsing 2–3 times to prepare. Children’s Choir rehearsals for 4-year-olds through elementary are held throughout the school year in the Children’s Wing. Worship Band The Worship Band is an auditioned group of instrumentalists who provide accompaniment for congregational song in worship. Rehearsals as scheduled by the director. CONTACT Rev. Media & Sound Crew Volunteers are needed to help facilitate worship through sound and media. This crew is responsible for making sure the audio and video needs for worship run smoothly. Basic computer skills and a willingness to learn. Ushers Be a part of the first wave of friendly faces seen on Sunday morning. Duties include passing out orders of worship, assisting persons in finding a seat, collecting the offering and directing flow of traffic. Greeters Commit to a Sunday morning on rotation to greet those who enter the church, answer questions and help with wayfinding. Greeters are also needed for funerals. CONTACT Rev. Prayer & Caring Living Water Caring Ministry Provide prayer and encouragement to our church and extended families who experience significant life events like illness, birth, death, aging, and moving to a care facility, etc Volunteers can write cards, make phone calls, visit people or deliver flowers and assist with funeral/memorial service receptions. ESL Tutor [Schedule is flexible and coordinated with Literacy Advance of Houston] Join in helping adult learners from around the world gain access to the English language. FAM {Behind the Scenes} FAM strives to be a community for all shaped by prayer, hospitality, and justice. FAM’s mission is to Know God, Love People, and Be Faithful. This mission is creating holy friendships that bring together refugees, immigrants, transplants, and native Houstonians. Piecemaker Quilters [Wednesdays, 7–9 pm, Room W-201] Do you like fabric and color? Join us as we make and donate lap quilts to local charities. We also make and sell quilted and crossstitched items donating the proceeds to mission projects. No experience necessary. All-Church Fall Retreat The annual retreat gives everyone a chance to relax, have fun and get to know each other.We will meet in the piney woods of Camp Allen in Navasota (about an hour’s drive northwest of Houston). The cost is $60 per person, with a $200/family maximum. This covers lodging in the cabins and meals. GIRL SCOUTS

Our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. Through programs including science and technology, business and economic literacy and outdoor and environmental awareness, Girl Scouting provides girls with opportunities for fun and friendship, while fostering the development of leadership skills and self-esteem. Sunday School Teacher [Sundays, 9:15–10:30 am] Commit to team-teaching one of our three Sunday school classes every other month. Vacation Bible School (VBS) Volunteer [One week: Mon–Fri mornings, with flexibility] Pitch in at our biggest event of the year! We have something for everyone and every talent. Spring Break Camp Volunteer [One week: Mon-Fri mornings, with flexibility] Help out with scripture stories, hands-on crafts and activities, games and music! Sunday School Teacher [Sundays, 9:15–10:30 am] Lead discussion questions about the Bible and topics related to faith. Youth Counselor Volunteer on Sunday nights during youth group. Lead small groups and help facilitate games and discussion. Event Driver Help coordinate pick-ups and drop-offs. Most of the time they will be driving a 15-passenger van to or from a destination. Must be 21 or older with valid driver’s license. Event Chaperone Help with the nuts and bolts of our big event operations, from lock-ins to trips. Small Groups/ Discipleship Sunday School Classes [Sundays, 9:30–10:30 am]

Adults, choose one of 13 different groups that meet in classrooms on the first and second floors of the education building. Classes for children (3-year-olds–5th graders) are held in the Children’s Wing (1st floor on the east end of the building). Sunday school for youth (6th–12th graders) is in the Youth Wing (2nd floor on the west end of the building). Seasonal Studies Westbury UMC offers short-term Bible studies and book studies during the week, frequently kicking off in the fall and spring. Check the church calendar for details. The Westbury Way [Dates TBA] Are you a new church member or a new follower of Christ? Join us for this class led by Westbury UMC’s pastors that will be held after worship in the Parlor.
