Keppler Academy
2017-18 School Year
Introduction & Philosophy The West Chicago Park District’s Keppler Academy Preschool focuses on the developmental needs of children from three to five years old. Keppler Academy is designed to give children the tools and experiences necessary to assure a positive transition to kindergarten. Our program offers a warm, nurturing, and friendly environment where children can explore, create, and flourish. Socialization skills and independence are developed through a variety of daily skills and exercises. Our philosophy is that all children learn through hands-on experiences, exploration, and positive interactions with others. Every child is unique and will develop at their own pace. We foster an environment that will help all children succeed emotionally, physically, and socially. Every child has their own learning style and we give many options to explore and build on those abilities. (GR)
Registration, Payment & Additional Information Registration now being accepted for the 2017-18 school year. Children must be age appropriate for program by September 1, 2017. There is a $50 fee per child due at the time of registration to secure your child’s place in the program. The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Take advantage of our convenient monthly EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer) payment plan where payments are automatically withdrawn from your credit or debit card on the first of the month (September through May). Prank Humor Lab Prank or visual “gag” comedy is truly the oldest trick in the book. Now kids can learn how to take their comedic side up a notch through healthy pranks in a lab setting. This high energy workshop will offer electrifying lessons on how to execute a prank that is believable AND when pranks are taken too far. Also, learn how to create your own homemade gags that cost nothing! Whether your child is naturally funny or not, this class is appropriate for them as we will meet them at their comedic level. After learning the history of practical jokes in Western Culture, children will have the opportunity perform a gag on their new comedy friends, gain a higher sense of self-esteem while doing it, and perhaps learn to use prank humor in a future social setting. MARTIAL ARTS Judo (sport): Simple and Basic

Judo is two individuals who, by gripping uniforms, use forces of balance, power, timing and physics to subdue their opponents. Judo does not use striking techniques of any kind. It’s a purely defensive sport, based on other’s aggressive moves. It involves techniques of throwing, grappling, submission holds. It all starts from a standing position and then moves to the ground for submission techniques or to pin your opponent. Promotions are based on competitions from green, brown and black belt ranks. Uniforms are mandatory as are four competitions per year. Great cross training for wrestlers. (BK)
Structured on semi-traditional format, emphasizes self-discipline, accountability, goal setting and respect. Participants learn basic techniques utilizing coordination, balance, timing and repetition.

ADULT ATHLETICS Drop In Pickleball
Beginning Pickleball Classes
If you haven’t heard of or played Pickleball, you’re missing out on the biggest craze since the Hoola Hoop! Pickleball is traditionally played on a badminton-sized court with special Pickleball paddles and a ball similar to a whiffle ball, but slightly smaller. The lower net and whiffle ball allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, while still allowing more competitive players to test their mettle. It was created with one thing in mind: FUN! It is easy to learn and play so, grab a few friends and head to the ARC Center and give Pickleball a try! (ML)
This class is for those who have limited experience with the sport, but have played before. Class will focus on Pickleball basics such as forehand and backhand shots, serving, and court positioning. Players will also learn scoring and the rules of the game through drills and playing time. The slower pace of this class will give players the opportunity to develop the skills needed to play this fun and energetic game. All equipment will be provided. Instructor Kirk Lingner, Ambassador and Club Pro Illini Pickleball. Class meets every other week a total of 3 classes. (ML) 18+ yrs

Cornerstone Lakes Park is located along Smith Road on the north side of the city. Featuring a 25-acre lake for catch and release fishing, one playground, an asphalt trail, seven soccer fields, a sand volleyball court, one baseball/softball diamond, a picnic shelter, and native landscaping, the park is picture perfect for a Sunday afternoon.
On a sunny weekend you’ll find plenty of activity at Kress Creek Farms since it houses our 18 cage Disc Golf Course, Chicago Bears themed playground and trail system. Adjacent to Reed-Keppler Park is the Geneva Spur bike trail, an integral part of the Illinois Prairie Path system and the Dyer Nature area. Through the generosity of John and Joan Dyer and their appreciation of natural lands they have donated 25 acres of prairie and wetlands named after them in their honor. Reed-Keppler Park is the home to the ARC Center (Athletics, Recreation & Community).
Dyer Riverwood Farm Park This seven-acre site donated by John and Joan Dyer is bordered on the west side by the DuPage River. As part of an intergovernmental agreement between the West Chicago Park District and the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, the park now contains a bike trail that links to the Illinois Prairie Path System.

Depending on the activity, certain risks, dangers, and injuries can occur due to inclement weather, slips and falls, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities.
