ARTISTIC DIRECTOR’S NOTES I’ve always loved family comedies, particularly when the playwright is adept at capturing the humour, warmth — and absurdity – of the sibling dynamic. I have three sibs myself, and the first time I read this play I laughed out loud at the sibling relationships – especially the inescapable fact that no matter how old we get, we still revert to behaving like adolescents when we’re around our brothers and sisters. Or is that just MY family??? There’s nothing more important to me than to celebrate the work of our own country: our writers, our performers, and our stories. WCT is always pleased and proud to produce a new play. There’s a spirit of adventure, creation, and voyaging into unexplored territory that is at the heart of any new play process, and we’re thrilled to be a part of that. We hope that you, as the very first people to ever see this play, share our sense of excitement and accomplishment. Wherever it goes in the future (and we have confidence that it will play across the country), we can always say, “We saw it first!” You may have noticed recently in the news that there is a new Performing Arts Centre under consideration for the City of Kamloops. We support this initiative – we believe there is real potential in this facility to bring our city together and to allow us to continue to produce outstanding live theatre in a modern, accessible venue. Your Council will be seeking input – please don’t hesitate to offer your opinion. Thank you to everyone who joined us at this year’s very successful – and entertaining – Mayor’s Gala for the Arts. This annual opportunity to celebrate theatre, music, and visual arts reinforces the important role the Arts play in Kamloops. And finally, thanks to all of YOU for setting attendance records during our run of Elf – The Musical! There’s a lot more coming up for us in the next month, including our rocking and rolling production of Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story and the announcement of our exciting 2019-2020 season! Stay tuned! Enjoy!

PLAYWRIGHT’S NOTES A few years ago, when my dear sweet mom started failing, I decided to write a serious play about sibling relationships. After a few pages, however, it morphed into a comedy, and although that might seem odd, it was simply the only way it would spill onto the page. Although my siblings and I did have our struggles during that trying time, we also found new bonds, warmth and humour. And after all, isn’t laughter the quickest route to dissolving conflict? P.S. – this play is fiction.
I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who helped bring this play to life: Julien Arnold, Sharon Bajer, Liza Balkan, Ben Carlson, Laura Condlln, Jim Doucette, Martha Farrell, Shira Ginsler, Simon Joynes and Port Stanley Festival Theatre, Sharon McFarlane, Tracey Power, Linda Prystawska, Michael SpencerDavis, Yvonne Taylor, James Wallis and a very special thanks to James MacDonald and Western Canada Theatre, and Jack Grinhaus and Theatre Northwest. DIRECTOR’S NOTES The first production of any new play is always exciting, scary,
challenging and illuminating. As the very first audience of Bonnie Green’s Meet My Sister, you play a crucial role in this final stage of development, by experiencing it for the very first time. Playwrights work for years on a play, and then they put their trust in a creative team of people to bring it to the stage, while the actors have three weeks to learn the material, incorporating changes along the way in order to bring these fantastic characters to life. I have had the great honour of working with a generous and courageous group of artists on this play, and I thank Bonnie for trusting us and WCT and Theatre Northwest for having me back again after directing The Best Brothers last season! So, thank you for being here, for witnessing the birth of this world premiere and for sharing in great new Canadian theatre!
