A Message from the President | 1
Welcome to Westfield State University! Founded in 1838 by reformer/educator Horace Mann as America’s first public institution of higher learning without barrier to gender, race or economic class, Westfield State continues to make history as the crown jewel of the state university system of Massachusetts. As you visit our beautiful campus, I think that you’ll discover why U.S. News & World Report ranked us in the top tier of Regional Universities–North in the latest “Best Colleges” editions and why MASSInc. named us Massachusetts’ Best Education Value in a “cost versus value” study of all public and private institutions of higher education in the Commonwealth. We’ve much to celebrate-affordability, exceptional academics and student services, a first-rate program of global education, internships and experiential learning. We also have an award-winning athletics program, a calendar of world-class cultural and community events and state-of-the art facilities. Helping students to meet the challenges of a changing world, Westfield State is a great place to study, to work and to grow. Enjoy your visit and come back often. Evan S. Dobelle, President
