Executive Summary

CLASS OF 2010 POST GRADUATE SURVEY

Westfield State University, like most institutions, provides statistical reports to measure effectiveness and evaluate performance. The goal of this survey was to capture post-graduate data and compile it into a report with meaningful data that prospective students, employers, the administration and the community can utilize. The goal of this survey was to capture a representative sample of the Class of 2010 to determine the post-graduation career and graduate school activities of individuals one year after graduation. We were very pleased with a 49% percent overall response rate, achieved through a number of marketing initiatives. Even more impressive in this economy is the finding that approximately 97% percent of those surveyed are either employed, attending graduate school or in the military. Also, 29 % percent of this sample was engaged in public sector or non-profit employment, reflecting Westfield State University’s primary mission of assisting students to develop intellectually and to use their knowledge and skills to improve the social and economic conditions in their communities. It is exciting to see the wide range of professional activities of these new graduates. Members of the University Community have worked hard to guide and support these individuals during their undergraduate years. It is satisfying to see the outcome of these efforts as students launch their professional careers or pursue advanced study in a wide range of fields and industries. We are pleased to present our fourth annual post-graduate survey. Using a systematic and comprehensive approach to gathering this type of data we can examine our progress with students over time. This information should be helpful in guiding our work on behalf of students and alumni. This project, coordinated by the Career Center, was truly a collaborative campus-wide effort. Dino Innarelli, Coordinator of Alumni Career Services, compiled this report and the Career Center managed this exciting project working closely with colleagues from Advancement and University Relations, Office of Alumni Affairs and Information Technology. We hope that you find this report to be beneficial.

Sincerely, Junior Delgado Director, Career Center

Information gathered regarding employment, graduate studies and related factors provided very interesting and significant analyses when compiling this data.
