LETTER from the TOWNSHIP TRUSTEE Mission Statement
Educate. Advocate. Collaborate. We will provide superior, reliable municipal services for the benefit of our citizens. We aim to be good stewards of both public resources and our natural environment as we embrace our heritage and yet recognize and act on opportunities to enhance the future quality of life in our community.
Vision Statement
When someone new first enters through the front door of the Westfield Washington Township office they are often fascinated with the history of the building. The building began as a private residence and was later used for offices. The beautiful brick building has a fascinating history so I wanted to take this opportunity to share with our community the often unknown timeline/story of what is now the Westfield Washington Township office. 1900 - Chapman J Root, owner of Root Glass Company, built the house for his daughter. Root came into his fortune by designing the distinct bottle for Coca-Cola. The house was built where Best Buy is currently located.
We aspire to be a customer-centered organization through innovation and sustainability.
1944 - Karl Johnson bought the home. Johnson was the owner of Steel Parts Corporation and came from a prominent family in Kokomo.
Staff
Mid 1950s - Ted (Happy) Thompson, a cattle farmer during WWII, purchased the property and named it Happy T Mansion.

1973 - Ralph Wilfong, real estate developer, purchased Happy T Mansion to use for his corporate office. 1997 - Wilfong moved the house about 3 blocks north to its current location at 1549 E Greyhound Pass so he could develop the original land. 2003 - The 6400 square foot building became home to the Westfield Washington Township Trustee's Office in 2003. The office currently houses seven staff members and many youth and adult enrichment and fitness classes. Sincerely,
David Gill | Erica Strahm | Danyele Easterhaus
About the cover: The rendering on the front cover was created by local artist Jayne Moore in 1986 for the Wilfong Land Company. Thank you to Mrs. Moore for allowing us to use this beautiful piece of art depicting our office building on the cover of the Summer OWWN Guide.
