SIRD Proposals Compared To:
Larry Hall, Coordinator Southern Idaho Rural Development 315 Falls Avenue, Evergreen Building, SIDC Wing College of Southern Idaho Campus Twin Falls, Idaho 83301
Larry, I thought this comparison might help. The first proposal was somewhat like everyone wanting to go to the fair on a limited budget. I proposed a van and only training one driver. The others would only get limited training on how to adjust their seats and control the ventilation. The second request was asking that everyone get their own car and learn how to operate it. The second option could get much more expensive because the van pool is out.
The First Proposal The initial proposal from earlier discussions, was based on building a 4-6 page SIRD website with all the other seven communities tagging along and being a sub-section of the SIRD site. I envisioned the proposal covered building the SIRD site (cinema display sized - 1000 x 750 ppi) and building a smaller (Facebook sized 520 x 750 ppi) Landing page for each community. The SIRD would have the site and the communities would be nested invisibly behind the SIRD’s pages. The SIRD would have a Facebook Account and a FB Business page. I envisoined the SIRD having an additional 7 Business Pages - one for each community. Each community would have administrative access to manage their own FB Business Pages. (The SIRD would have access and ownership of all the pages and provide each community with administrative access to their own Business Page.) The SIRD would have a YouTube Channel. Every Community could post to this channel and link these videos to their Facebook Business Pages. Here is what I would create with an estimate of cost...with training paid by each community @ $120 ea. A schema for the SIRD site & community pages ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
$250.00
A SIRD landing page with 3-5 SIRD support pages with a SIRD YouTube Channel ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ $360.00 A SIRD FB Business Page with 7 - community pages ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ $300.00 Paid for by the SIRD ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ $910.00 ** Which leaves enough overhead for the SIRD to buy a domain name & hosting for one year.
The Training to be Paid for by each Community SBDC Training - 4 hr.s per community @ $30 per hr. ~ ~ $120.00 ea. Some representative from each community, who would be responsible for content, would attend a four hour training session to learn about: ~ SEO basics ~ Preparing images, text and video ~ Posting & linking video ~ Setting up a Twitter account ~ Linking their Business Pages to Twitter ~ Best practices for engaging content. Notes: This does not cover content development like creating logos, or background art or any graphic design or illustration. It is assumed that all communities have some branding content currently available. I normally charge $400 for just building the Facebook Business Landing page for a commercial client with fees based on a minimum $60 per hour. I reduced my rates in part because most people, businesses, groups and communities do not understand those kinds of frees...except for attorneys and accountants. Secondly, I would take advantage of the PR opportunity and SIRD’s media contacts to promote my company and the SBDC courses to make some additional money through training fees for the SBDC and me. --------------------------------------------------
The Second Proposal The Second proposal was in response to your August 19th email where, instead of each community being nested within or behind the SIRD website and Facebook Account, “each of my seven cities (if they wish) to be able to create their own Facebook website and come away from training with a launched site that they can personally modify in the future.” Additionally, you wanted to put the SIRD website on hold, which means that I cannot “nest” the other communities landing page (and avoid website costs) behind the SIRD site. In this case a special course would have to be developed to teach each community how to build and maintain their web presences with Facebook at the center. There would be 7 separate but linked web communities. A pitch needs to be made all 7 communities. I would rather do this than travel and make 7 separate presentations. I would create an intense 8 hour “Boot Camp” (or a pair of 4 hour courses) to allow every community to create, modify and maintain their own web presence. To make sure we get through everything, I would need to spends some time with each community to make certain they have all the components completed for the “Boot Camp.” This would ensure that everyone is on the same page with all the necessary ingredients.
Here is what I would create with an estimate of cost...with training paid by each community @ $160 ea. Making a Formal presentation to all 7 communities. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ $250.00 Develop a schema for all 7 communities. Content Preparation Coaching Sessions ($200 each - all day sessions) East End ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ $200.00 West End ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ $200.00 Develop Customized Training for the SIRD ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ $200.00 Paid for by the SIRD ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
$850.00
Additional Expenses incurred by each Community:
Each community must buy their own copy of Visual Site Designer ($49). Each community must buy their own domain name & web hosting.($85 for 1 yr. - $175 for 3 yrs.). Each community would learn: ~ SEO basics ~ Building Web content ~ Building & maintaining your own with VSD. ~ Building a FB Landing Page ~ Setting up a FB business account ~ Building a FB Business Page ~ Building a YouTube Channel ~ Linking and Embedding a video ~ Building a custom Twitter Page ~ Linking FB to Twitter. ~ How to be engaging.
Notes: Although this does not cover content development like creating logos, or background art or any graphic design or illustration. The Content Prep Coaching sessions do provide an opportunity to assist with developing this type of content. Again, I would take advantage of the PR opportunity and SIRD’s media contacts to promote my company and the SBDC courses to make some additional money through training fees for the SBDC and me. Each of these communities could mitigate some of the expenses by hosting a SBDC training session for all of the local businesses, agencies and organizations in conjunction with or in tandem with the Content Prep Coaching sessions.
