An Sceach Gheal ag fógairt an tsamhraidh!

Tá an sceach gheal aoibhinn, lena bláthanna bána agus rian den mbándearg orthu, fé bhláth i gclathacha ar fud na hÉireann na laethanta seo. Bhí dlúthbhaint ag an sceach gheal le ceiliúradh na Bealtaine go háirithe Lá Bealtaine. Chreidtí go mbain draíocht léi. Bhaintí craobh den sceach gheal, mhaisítí le bláthanna, giobail agus ribíní ildaite í agus chuirtí os cionn an dorais í chun an tigh agus an teaghlach a chosaint. Ní thugtaí na bláthanna isteach sa tigh ar chor ar bith ar eagla go dtiocfadh drochrath ar mhuintir an tí. Ná ní bhíodh baint ag duine ar bith le crann aonair in áit oscailte nó i lios mar go dtarraingeodh sin drochrath nó fiú bás obann ar an té a bhain. Chreidtí gur leis na daoine maithe an crann aonair sin agus tá mórán scéalta i mbéaloideas na tíre ar mháchail a thagadh ar lámh nó ar chorp an té a bhain nó ar bhás gan choinne ná feadfaí a mhíniú. Leiríodh ana-ómós dosna crainn céanna dá bharr sin. Agus as na crainn a gheibhtear taobh le cuid mhaith de thoibreacha beannaithe na tíre is sceach gheal níos mó ná a leath díobh. Luaitear an sceach gheal nó an crann deilgneach le tobar beannaithe Chluain Mhic Nóis. Chrochadh oilithrigh giobail agus ofrálacha ar an gcrann agus turas an tobair á dhéanamh acu Lá Phátrún Naomh Ciarán. Oíche Bhealtaine a bhíodh daoine ag triall ar leigheas ag Tobar Phádraig i nDún Phádraig, Co. an Dúin. Bhí sceach gheal taobh leis an dtobar, dh’imíodh an t-uisce thar bruach amach agus thumadh daoine ball coirp san uisce chun go leigheasfaí iad. Tá scéal eile faoi Naomh Colmcille agus Tobar an Deilg a luadh leis. Dúradh fé go raibh dealg ina chois, gur thum sé in uisce an tobair an chos, go mbaineadh an dealg as an gcois agus gur as an ndealg san a d’fhás an sceach gheal taobh leis an dtobar.

Scéalta Béaloidis faoin sceach gheal ó Chorca Dhuibhne:

Lá bealtaine do tugtaí an sceach gheal isteach agus cuirtí ag beiriú é agus tugtaí an súghlach do bhion nó do ghamhain go mbeadh galar airighthe aici. Ní ceart ainmhithe do bhualadh le píosa de'n sceach gheal, agus fós ní tugtar bláth an chrainn sin isteach sa tig cómnuidhthe i rith mí na Bealtaine.

Tús Maith: Scéim na gCuairteoirí Baile

(pic. Orlaith Ruiséal)

Muintir Uí Shíthigh ag baint súp go cluasa as an ngarraíodóireacht i dteannta Darach Ó Murchú. Tá Cuairteanna Baile agus an bhéim ar churadóireacht trí mheáin na Gaelainne fé lán tseoil anois le Darach Ó Murchú. Creidimidne in Tús Maith go bhfuil ana-bhaint idir teanga agus timpeallacht – ta sí le feiscint sna logainmneacha, sa stair agus sna nósanna a bhaineann le timpeallacht nádurtha na hÉireann. Taimíd ag baint triail as an gcur chuige nua seo ar bhonn phíolótach. Seo iarracht Tús Maith i gcomhar le Darach dul i bhfeidhm ar phobal Chorca Dhuibhne maidir le tosnú ag fás dóibh féin, crainn a chur agus b’fheidir cur lena dtuiscint ar chursaí timpeallachta. Anseo thíos tá foclóir a bailíodh ó Mhichéal Toose Mac Gearailt maidir le curadóireacht

Talamh agus Curadóireacht

Talamh mín – bíonn cré mhaith ann – Tá fód maith air. Talamh Garbh – cliathán cnoic nó sliabh, riasc, portach, móinteán, currach. Bán: Talamh féarach a bheadh cúpla bliain gan cur. Ithir: Talamh tar éis na prátaí a bhaint. Coinleach: Talamh tar éis barra coirce bheith bainte. Branar: Talamh treafa ullamh le cur. Iomaire: Leabaigh treafa chun prátaí a chur. Riastáil: Leabaigh déanta le rámhainn. Clais: An spás idir dhá iomaire.

Ullmhú na talún roimh ré do phrátaí:

Bán nó seanabhán is fearr ach d’fhásfadh an práta beagnach in aon talamh ach é a leasú. Cuirtear aoileach an bhuaile amach aon am ó Dheireadh Fómhair go tosach an Earraigh. Éinne atá i gcóngar na trá úsáideann siad ualaí gainimhe agus feamannach chun an t-aoileach a chur i bhfód. Is leasú maith an feamannach do phrataí. Is le linn ráithe an Earraigh a deintear an churadóireacht go léir geall leis – ó Lá le Bríde go deireadh an Aibreáin ach cuirtear formhór na bprátaí sa Mhárta. Is i ndruileanna is mó a chuirtear prátaí inniu. Is fusa iad a choiméad glan ó luibhearnach agus fiadhailí. Cuirtear glasraí – meacain, turnapaí agus rl sa tslí chéanna. Cré mhín is fearr do chuid acu seo. Bíonn toradh níos fearr ar an gcuradóireacht luath.

Buíochas do Mhicheál Toose Mac Gearailt as an bhfoclóir seo.

CROMANE GAA

MINI MAROONS: It was encouraging to see so many returning faces at our second session of the year for under-7s (the Mini Maroons), under-9s, and under-11s. Our Mini Maroons continue at Cromane GAA pitch each Sunday starting at 11.15am. Our under-9s and under-11s also train at the same time on Sunday mornings. Our underage club coaches who need to be garda-vetted should now be completing that process of e-vetting. The be return-to-play health questionnaires will be necessary once again. It is very important that you re-confirm the health questionnaire you filled out last week before every training session. This can be done on the ‘Foireann’ site where you registered as a club member. Can we also ask parents attending our Sunday morning training sessions to continue to adhere to the current rules on social distancing. The following is the GAA’s current advice on attending training sessions: One parent or guardian per child (or per family if more than one child is attending from a particular family) is permitted to attend in a safeguarding / supervisory capacity. Strict social distancing and public health guidelines should be adhered to at all times. In particular, parents mustn't congregate in groups before or after sessions, outside of what is permitted in current Government regulations. CUL CAMPS: Great news - this year's Cromane GAA Cúl Camp will take place from Monday, July 26, to Friday, July 30, at Cromane GAA pitch. All bookings will take place online, as per last year. There is a maximum capacity of 100 children per camp. All Cúl Camp gear will be posted to the participant’s booking addresses. TRAINING: While underage players are back in action for the last ten days, this week will see our senior footballers make their return to training (Tuesday evening and again on Thursday evening). As the restrictions ease, our pitch is opening to more activity, but please remember our club dressing rooms are still closed as per current government advice. The club’s toilet facilities are available to use. CLUB MEMBERSHIP 2021: You should now pay for your Cromane GAA club membership using the GAA’s new Foireann platform. To access it go to: www.foireann.ie Please note that the deadline for registrations is May 31, 2021. All of our players need to be club members before restarting training. Please note that due to government restrictions our registrars cannot accept payments for memberships. Right now the only way to pay for club membership is through the Foireann online platform. CLUB LOTTO: Our club lotto remains on hold due to the current government restrictions around gathering indoors. Our lotto committee needs to be able to meet indoors to operate our popular lotto. Please note that all tickets sold will be honoured when the lotto restarts. The recent easing of restrictions doesn’t change anything about meeting indoors. We will give plenty of notice of this restart time through these notes as well as online. MAY WEEKEND DRAW: On Friday last we held our May Bank Holiday Weekend draw for all of you who purchased tickets for our original Cow Splat Bingo fundraiser competition. Unfortunately, the pandemic circumstances worked against us and we were unable to host the original fundraising idea. We held a draw last weekend for cash prizes of €500, €200, and three €100 prizes. Here are the winners (and congratulations to them all): 1st prize (€500): Aisling O’Dwyer, Curraglass, Killarney. 2nd prize (€200): Lauren Hurley, Cromane Lower. Three €100 prize winners: Susan Carlin, Cromane Lower; Angela & Denis Teahan, Cromane Lower; Maureen & Solar Systems Noel Dennehy, Lonhert.
