Westover offers both a breadth of programs in the athletics and the arts and a range of extracurricular activities for all girls to discover and explore their passions. Our size allows us the flexibility to accommodate all interests and talents. Students have the time to participate in arts, athletics, and activities, and as a result, try everything, from squash and canoeing to social activism and singing. Novices and experienced athletes can achieve their personal best, competing in interscholastic sports or participating in personal fitness classes. Girls benefit from Westover’s close proximity to New York City, Boston, and Yale University in New Haven, increasing opportunities for learning and playing outside of the classroom, while fun, weekly co-ed events provide an answer to the common “What about boys?” question. arts & extracurricul ars signature programs

MSM (Manhattan School of Music): As participants in this joint program between Westover and Manhattan School of Music Pre-College Division, talented musicians and vocalists have the opportunity to study at one of the country’s top music schools. SOMSI (Sonja Osborn Museum Studies Internship): A trimester-long student internship at the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington, CT. Students can choose a performance arts emphasis in dance, drama, visual arts, or voice. Advanced Placement arts offerings include: AP Art History, AP Music Theory, AP Studio Art: Drawing, and AP Studio Art: Two-Dimensional Design/Photography.

In June 2012, with over 200 participants, Westover School and Trinity Pawling School held a Relay For Life event at Westover. This event raised more than $30,000 for the American Cancer Society.
Westover’s 2012 Swim Team placed 1st in Division III competition at the Western New England Prep School Swimming Association Championships. In addition the team placed 2nd in the Connecticut Independent School Athletic Conference meet for the third year in a row.

Fourteen Westover students won awards in the 2012 Connecticut Scholastic Art Competition in Hartford, including six who received gold portfolio awards and two who received gold keys.

alumnae accomplishments in the arts Coriana Close ’02 is an assistant professor of photography at the University of Memphis. Her first show, “Hyper Descent,” opened at the Jones Hall Gallery in Memphis in 2011.
In between teaching voice lessons at Westover and Chase Collegiate School, Marissa Famiglietti Apland ’00 has paired with singer Michael Amante for a series of concerts, “From Pavarotti to Broadway,” featuring songs from opera, Broadway, jazz, and pop.
In 2010, Elise Drew ’03 joined the renowned José Limón Dance Company, premiering at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in Manhattan. The company has since performed at a monthlong residency at Skidmore College and a five-week tour through Mexico.
