ONE SPOT for all the DECEMBER happenings

Weekend Services Christmas EVE service times can be found on page 16 (back page of the insert).

Worship Services Westwood services are dynamic and inspiring. As we express our worship to God, the music is celebratory though the style is varied. At our morning services (8:30, 9:45 and 11:05) you’ll experience a variety of updated traditional hymns, along with the songs of today. At our 5:00 Saturday and Sunday evening ELEMENTS services, the environment is relaxed and the music is a blend of soulful songs that are both relevant and reverent. All our services feature thought-provoking messages that present biblical truth that you can apply to your life.

Students

Children

Westwood’s Student Ministry nurtures students in grades 6-12 to experience a dynamic love relationship with Jesus Christ. Our professional and volunteer staff model the journey of faith and life in Christ and encourage the students to journey further in their own relationships with God. Students are free to ask questions, challenge answers and experience God personally and honestly.

Westwood is a great place to be a kid! It’s a place where kids begin to discover their great big God and the world He created for them. A place where faith, learning and imagination go hand in hand. Faith comes alive as kids experience age-specific learning through exciting story-telling that is biblically-based, interactive music that gets kids moving and hands-on crafts that reinforce key Bible concepts!

WESTWOOD COMMUNITY CHURCH Purpose Statement Vision Statement

Values

The purpose of Westwood Community Church is to honor God by enjoying Him through reaching people with the love of Jesus Christ.

Our purpose and vision exist because:

We demonstrate God’s love in creative and compelling ways that lead people to know God, worship Him authentically, grow spiritually, serve joyfully and connect relationally. We are a community with open hands, receiving from God all He wants to give, believing He wants to give us a lot. And with open hands we give it away, believing we cannot out-give God.

We love God with all that we are, have and do. We love all people because all people matter to God.

Baptism

We are a community where singles can experience God’s love and grow in their faith, while developing friendships and supporting each other. Subscribe to the Singles Newsletter (see Find Community Online on page 27 for more information) and participate in the exciting events we have going on!

At Westwood we believe that baptism is for everyone who believes in Christ and has chosen to follow Him. Baptism is a time of celebration! In baptism, people express faith in Christ and publicly acknowledge their commitment to Him. Baptism symbolizes the believer’s union with Christ, spiritual cleansing and forgiveness, and promised resurrection into eternal life. Westwood celebrates baptism together in community in June and September at area lakes as well as periodic occasions in our Worship Center. Classes are offered prior to the summer and fall baptism services.

Grow Spiritually Ministry Facilitates a Fall, Winter and Spring book study. The focus for the studies is upward relationship with our Lord and Savior, outward in our relationship with others and inward with our self-growth and improvement.

Serve Joyfully Ministry Provides volunteer services into the community through the Ronald McDonald House, Love INC, Feed My Starving Children, Chaska’s Auburn Manor and Serve on Saturday.

We are in the season of More. More to do, more friends and family to see, more to buy. It’s the season of Black Friday, of Christmas lists and extended store hours. What if Christmas were more, so much more? Pastor Joel’s December message series seeks to answer that question and calls us to: “Love God More,” to “Live More Simply” and to “Give More Generously.” It’s a rhythm of receiving from God all He wants to give and reflecting His generosity to others. As we do so, our perspective is refreshed and our faith is rejuvenated. Christmas, the season we celebrate the most generous gift ever given, is truly a season of More, so much more. Throughout the series for stories of how generosity has blessed the lives of people, go to www.westwoodcc.org/generosity.

Christmas Eve Services:

FEATURED MINISTRY: CRY OF INDIA Changing India’s future, one child at a time Since the beginning of Westwood our tradition has been to take a special offering at our Christmas Eve services and to use it for the poor and needy here and around the world. Key beneficiaries in the past have included Hurricane survivors in Honduras, families devastated by AIDS in Malawi, Africa, famine victims around the Horn of Africa, as well as local families affected by the downturn in the economy. This year the Christmas Eve offering will support relief and mercy ministries here and around the world, including purchasing the food for our Food packing event in late December. Our 2012 feature ministry is “Cry of India,” a wholistic relief effort of churches in America and the Indian church that is responding to the unprecedented human need in India. Our gifts will help to provide education, nutrition, healthcare and spiritual formation to meet the urgent needs of extreme poverty for children at risk. The goal is to allow them to break out of the cycle of poverty and reach their God-given potential as they come to know the love of Jesus Christ.
