Exhilaration

December Sermon Series Christmas is a time for music. It’s always been that way—the events of the birth of Jesus have inspired the simple carols of the church all the way to the great high church music of Handel and Bach. But it goes back even further, to Jesus’ birth itself. Pastor Joel Johnson’s Christmas series is entitled “Exhilaration” and begins with a three-week look at the joyful songs of Christmas: Mary’s song, Zechariah’s song and Simeon’s song. The fourth message in the series is on “The Star of Wonder,” examining this wondrous celestial event that foretold the birth of the Messiah. At all our Christmas Eve services, Pastor Joel will unpack the angel’s exhilarating words recorded in Luke 2:11-12, simple words that still exhilarate today: “A Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord.” Don’t miss “Exhilaration” and share the joy with an invitation to a friend or neighbor this Christmas season.

About Westwood Worship Services

dynamic

inspiring

Westwood services are and . As we express our worship to God, the music is celebratory though the style is varied. All our services feature thought-provoking messages that present biblical truth that you can apply to your life. The message is the same at all services.

Sunday morning services (8:30, 9:45 & 11:05am) On Sunday mornings, you will experience a variety of updated traditional hymns, along with the songs of today.

Saturday & Sunday ELEMENTS services (5:00pm) The environment is relaxed and the music is a blend of soulful songs that are both relevant and reverent. Find info on weekend Children & Student Ministries on pages 4–7.

Communion We observe Communion the first Saturday and Sunday of the month at all our services. All those who believe in Jesus Christ are welcome to participate. If you would like a pastor to clarify the meaning of the Lord’s Supper, please call the Church Office (952.224.7300). Self-serve gluten-free communion is available at the usher stations on Sunday mornings. During the ELEMENTS services (Saturday and Sunday evenings), gluten-free communion is available on the far left side of the Worship Center when you are facing the front. We demonstrate God’s love in creative and compelling ways that lead people to:

KNOW God, WORSHIP Him authentically, GROW spiritually, SERVE joyfully and CONNECT relationally. We are a community with open hands, receiving from God all He wants to give, believing He wants to give us a lot. And with open hands we give it away, believing we cannot out-give God.

Classes: Wellspring Leadership Development Leading for Results–Ministry and Life Sunday, Dec 8, 9:45am, Prairie Room

Engaging results in the context of ministry and personal life can be a complicated thing. As we minister in church, and as we live our lives, we actively lean on and depend on God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. How do we measure what God is doing in and through us in a way that is effective, appropriate and motivational–while not creating unnecessary expectations and pressures? When navigated correctly, assessing results can accomplish all these things well. Come to engage and discuss this topic together in this course provided by Westwood’s Wellspring Ministry to leaders, Pastor Brian Suter will lead this discussion, sharing principles and questions to weigh together. *Register online. “When our 16 year old son entered drug treatment, we began looking for support and connection with other parents of teen addicts. The stress, fear and isolation we experienced as a couple were overwhelming and it was difficult to find others that understood. We’re excited to be part of Harambee along with other couples, learning how to heal and relate well to our son as God guides and leads us.”

SHINE

We focus on evangelism and leadership development. We take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the nations through festivals of hope and leadership conferences.

Favorite Food:

East African Chapati and beef stew

One Fun Fact:

Seventy-five percent of our family have our birthday on either the 30th or 31st of the month. Also, all of our names begin with the letter “S”. We didn’t plan it that way.

Prayer Request:

God has been doing many great things, allowing us to minister to 150,000 people on average per year around the world. We have a vision to elevate our impact to reach 500,000 people with the Good News of Jesus Christ by 2016. Please pray for new funding to help us expand the work of the ministry locally and internationally as well as for new staff in the New Year to help us take on this expanded work. Pray for financial provision, wisdom as we raise and grow our ministry team, and for continued favor before the Lord in all that we are doing.
