Come discover the seven churches of Revelation “Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.” Revelation 1:11 This message series covers the seven churches of Revelation and will examine the words sent by God through the Apostle John in banishment on the Greek island of Patmos. He wrote letters to specific churches in Asia Minor where the Gospel first spread out of Jerusalem. God has words of both encouragement and warning to these young churches. These words are also intended for the church down through the centuries. The letters identify important issues of our faith as well as reveal an encouraging glimpse of the eternal rewards waiting for us. Invite a friend to experience “The Seven Churches of Revelation” with you!

DANISE MCMILLEN, DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN’S MINISTRY
Welcome to Fall at
Westwood! What a great place to be a kid–and a family! Children matter to God and they matter at Westwood; that’s why we put so much effort into making this a place where kids can know others and be known themselves; to know who they are and Whose they are in Christ; and for parents to feel good about being their own kids’ spiritual superhero! From our caring and compassionate leaders, to our creative and compelling curriculum, we pour Christ’s love into everything we bring to our families, and our prayer is that your special family will feel right at home. It’s easy–whenever you come to church, your child has a special class of leaders and classmates waiting for them. We also have wonderful extra-curricular Worship Arts programs for kids in grades K-12. Every family, including those who happen to have kids with special needs, can find a place that allows and encourages them to worship and grow. Our weekday preschool is second-to-none! Families LOVE our super-fun Trunk & Treat Fall Festival coming up (see back cover)! See what I mean? Something for everyone–we are so glad you’re here with us! Blessings, Danise

DIANNE COTTEN DEKONING, PASTOR OF STUDENT MINISTRY GRADES 6–12
Welcome to Fall
in Student Ministry! We host Wednesday night and Sunday morning programming for all students in grades 6-12. New students and friends join us every week, so invite a friend today. Weekly, we seek to give students a place to connect with one another, a caring adult and with God. Large group messages encourage students to take the next step of faith, no matter where they are today. Then, through engaging small group conversation, they learn to blend faith and life together, growing in their faith and convictions in Christ. We, along with families, seek “sticky faith” for our students beyond high school. You can find out more about Boost, Xchange, Upper Room, HSM & En Route on these pages. We also host retreats, camps, mission trips, serving opportunities and events throughout the year. There’s always a place to get connected if you are a middle school or high school student. We hope to see you soon!

Sunday, Nov 10, 9:45am, Prairie Room Engaging results in the context of ministry and personal life can be a complicated thing. As we minister in church, and as we live our lives, we actively lean on and depend on God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. How do we measure what God is doing in and through us in a way that is effective, appropriate and motivational–while not creating unnecessary expectations and pressures? When navigated correctly, assessing results can accomplish all these things well. Come to engage and discuss this topic together in this course provided by Westwood’s Wellspring Ministry to leaders; Pastor Brian Suter will lead this discussion sharing principles and questions to weigh together. *Register online. Sma ll group s a t wes twood
None of us are intended to do the journey of life and faith alone–we need each other. Through research, we know the number one factor to whether or not someone will remain in a local church is if they have friends there. Small groups are one of the best ways to connect with each other relationally and through these growing friendships, grow in faith. This fall we invite you to take a step to get into one of our small groups. Groups meet in a variety of places; in homes, in coffee shops, at Westwood, and restaurants. Groups meet to build and grow friendships, and to discuss life and a chosen topic of study. Some groups will do a Bible study, others discuss a Christian book, some will also meet to discuss the current sermon series at Westwood. There are many options and types of groups to join.
New groups launching all the time!

SMALL GROUPS: SERMON BASED The current teaching series that we are in as a church is off to a great start. We want to make you aware of a couple opportunities to take the experience of learning that we are having in this series to the next level. Pastor Joel is preparing discussion questions based on his messages throughout this series, and we are making them available throughout these 9 weeks that we have together in Revelation. The first way to go a little deeper is through getting involved in a sermon-based small group. There are multiple groups that are starting up this month that are using this series as the topic of discussion. You can read the descriptions of these groups on the right. Feel free to contact the individuals listed as the leaders of this group directly to explore involvement. The other way to take this sermon a little deeper is to take the discussion questions that we are providing, and discuss them informally with people around you. That may be with you spouse, with a group of friends that you attend with, or maybe as an entire family. The sermon questions are available for download on the Westwood App, or online at www.westwoodcc.org/currentseries. We invite you to take a step to learn, discuss, and grow together through this inspiring series!
Minnetonka Parent Project Every other Wednesday If you are a busy couple raising little kids in the Minnetonka area, then we want to meet you! Together we are encouraged and inspired. There are also times throughout the year we connect as families to celebrate and serve. What is lamplighters?
Lamplighters International is a discipleship training ministry. The purpose is to help believers rediscover the biblical principles of making disciples. The format is through small group Bible studies. Lamplighters started in 2001 with a small group of men meeting in a health club to study the Bible. It has grown into a life-transforming ministry for hundreds of men and women who participate in over 100 studies that meet weekly in the Twin Cities area, and hundreds more studies meeting all over the country. Studies have been ongoing in Brazil in Portuguese for several years and have recently begun in the Mexico City area in Spanish. With one hour of Lamplighters “Basic Training” most believers can begin to effectively lead a small group Bible study and begin to disciple others. Lamplighters works in conjunction with local church ministries and always seeks to encourage participants to be involed and ministering with a local Bible believing church. One of the goals of Lamplighters Int’l is to serve the local church in offering training and resources to the greater body of Christ. Presently there are 27 Lamplighters Bible studies available. All are studies on books of the Bible, e.g. Joshua, Proverbs, John, Galatians. These are study guides, designed to get the participant into the Bible by asking thought-provoking questions about the passages read. The typical participant spends 30 minutes to one hour weekly preparing the lesson before the group meeting. The group meets at a predetermined place and at an agreed upon time for one hour weekly. Participants share the insights God has given them on a voluntary basis, no one is ever personally asked to read, pray or answer a question.
“I’m sure that these Lamplighters studies will soon be in all of the Spanish speaking places on the planet. I never stop giving thanks to God for the blessing of being part of this important effort of evangelization and disciple-making.”
- Pastor Vidal Q. from Venezuela & of a bi-lingual (English & Spanish) church in Minneapolis

Spiritual Mentoring (Pursuing Christ Together)
When I was diagnosed with cancer a friend told me to lean on God, my reply to her was that I was leaning so hard I hoped I didn’t knock Him over! Come join us as we discover how to confront cancer with faith no matter where you are on the journey; newly diagnosed, in chemo, cancer free or care giver, we look forward to hearing your story and we will journey together.
Pursuing Christ Together is an invitation to strengthen your walk with God. By meeting consistently with one other person, you will be encouraged to follow Jesus Christ more closely. You will meet with an individual equipped to encourage you in your pursuit of Christ. Together you will select curriculum designed to facilitate Bible study and life application. The initial commitment is six to eight weeks. Time, location and number of sessions are defined by the two of you to fit your specific situation. This ministry provides one-to-one/two opportunities for learning the basics of faith, Scripture and spiritual life. INFO (MEN): Dan Hazen, 952.448.6382 INFO (WOMEN): Cindy Lippert, 612.910.2765

Frequently, I have people approach me out of concern for a friend, a co-worker, or a family member who is experiencing personal or relational difficulty. After informing me of matters, the person typically says something like, “I’m so concerned for my friend. But I don’t know what to do or to say! Would you be willing to call him for me?” The unspoken message is, “You’re the Pastor. You’ll know just the right things to say or do.” Increasingly, my response to their request is, “I could do that…but it seems God is calling you to be there for your friend. How may I support you?” How is God calling you to be present to people in your life? And how may Westwood care and support ministries equip you to respond with the love of Jesus Christ? It’s humbling to consider the opportunities each of us have to walk alongside of friends, co-workers, family members through the tough things of life; to lend an ear, to pray with and for others, to be trusted with the cares of friends and loved ones. Not only is it humbling but it’s the way God has designed the church to bring hope and healing to those in need. Christ caring for others through you! “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4) Check out the various support groups (at left) and seminars (under Classes: Care Ministry on pages 10–11) offered to equip you to encourage others.

Baptism
At Westwood we believe that baptism is for everyone who believes in Christ and has chosen to follow Him. Baptism is a time of celebration! In baptism, people express faith in Christ and publicly acknowledge their commitment to Him. Baptism symbolizes the believer’s union with Christ, spiritual cleansing and forgiveness, and promised resurrection into eternal life. Westwood celebrates baptism together in community in June and September at area lakes as well as periodic occasions in our Worship Center. Classes are offered prior to the summer and fall baptism services. INFO: Sabrina Downey, 952.224.7314, baptism@westwoodcc.org

FRIEND-2-FRIEND FIRST RESPONDER WORKSHOP
Saturday, Nov 2, 9:00am–12:30pm, Room A112
With the high divorce rate in the US, this workshop is for everyone. We all know someone that is facing a marital crisis. This workshop is designed to equip everyday people like you to help strengthen and support the marriages of friends and family. Your friend or loved one called. Their marriage is in trouble–serious trouble–and they need your help. Are you prepared? Are you equipped? Research shows that first responses may not be the most helpful in the long run. Friend-to-Friend First Responder is a 3 1/2-hour workshop designed to train you, the friend, to come alongside your friend or loved one, in an effort to provide caring support and resources that could save their marriage. Learn how God can use you to effectively talk with your friend about marriage struggles and steps toward solutions, restoring hope and healing back to the marriage. Because people in trouble tend to go to their friends before seeking professional help, we believe that teaching friends to help friends can significantly change the divorce culture in America. *Register online.

KNOW God, WORSHIP Him authentically, GROW spiritually, SERVE joyfully and CONNECT relationally.
TRUNK N TREAT FAMILY NIGHT Friday, Oct 25, 6:00–7:30pm
Each year at Trunk N Treat, we focus on giving to share Christ’s love with folks in our community! Hosting a trunk is a ton of fun, perfect for a small group, ministry team or family! Trunk hosts should arrive at 5:30pm at the upper level lot. Decorate your trunk and come in costume (bonus points for Bible themes!), and get ready to welcome, serve, and give out little treats to excited families. (Plus, enjoy some free hot cider!)
We are a community with open hands, receiving from God all He wants to give, believing He wants to give us a lot. And with open hands we give it away, believing we cannot out-give God.
Cost is free, but we do ask that families contribute a donated item or two to our giving focus! This year’s focus is... Comfort Foods! We will be collecting mac & cheese, instant mashed potatoes and cans of soup for Bountiful Baskets Food Shelf in Chaska. A light dinner will be available for sale. *Register online.
