Letter from the
editor H
ey guys! Welcome to the second issue! Wow, I can’t believe it’s already here! It’s been a long two months of school and hard work, but this has to rank up there as one of the vvb things I have ever done. While still only being 16, many set backs and cancellations did occur but the finished product is beautiful! This issue doesn’t really follow a set theme, but we’re hoping to try out a few cool ideas with the coming issues in 2011. With now over 40,000 on vv, WeTheUrban is slowly trying to perfect its aesthetic and in doing so we have a brand spankin’ new logo created by our Art Director Sarah Chiarot. I absolutely adore it and it seems to be catching on very well, so this quick change is definitely going to be a keeper. In other WeTheUrban news, you can look out for a new WeTheUrban t-shirt line coming this summer! I don’t want to give away too much about the designs, but I’m sure you’ll LOVE them! No dates are final yet, but look out for them sometime in late June or early July. Before I release you to enjoy the second issue of WeTheUrban Magazine, I’d like to remind you that I created WeTheUrban as a place for all of our Urbanites to escpae for 10-15 minutes out of the month and come out a little more stylish and music/design savvy. I hope this one does that for you! It is my honor to present to you: WeTheUrban Magazine Issue 2! Enjoy!

Sticks & Stones May Break My Bones, But...
Sticks & Stones’ earthy collection of accessories boast clean lines and fresh looks, perfect for the summer season.

P
ortland, Oregon based Sticks & Stones Accessories is a small group of designers, jewelers and artists making limited-run handcrafted accessories out of Portland, Oregon. Their pieces are wood based and speak to the relationship between organic materials. The line offers subtle wood pieces that would add perfectly rustic-yet-refined accent to any stylish outfit. Although wood seems to be the base for all of the company’s designs, the designers also incorporate other natural materials such as metals, stones, and ivory.

Another notable material the company uses is the deer antler. It is speckled, with colors ranging from milky white to caramel, and from gray to black. The company uses “sheds, meaning that the deer are not harmed, they simply lose them once a year. As a premium addition, a black diamond set in an 18k yellow gold bezel is available with most of these pieces.
Two of our favorite pieces are the Dirty Peach and the Egg. Both are renewable sources of ivory found within nature. The Dirty Peach comes from the seed of the Tagua palm, found in Ecuador. The Egg is from the Piassaba palm, native to black water rivers in Amazonian Brazil and Venezuela.

Above poem: “The Gilded Crown” by Matthew Harshbarger 20
Eva Marcille Pigford Brains, Beauty, and the Industry words:
willie greene
america's next top model winner
actress, host, TV personality, entrepreneur... is their anything this woman can't do?! After winning America's Next Top Model in 2006, her acting career blossomed with reoccurring roles in Tyler Perry's House of Payne, The Young and the Restless, and just recently the stage play JD Lawrence presents Me and Mrs. Jones. Eva cooled her jets in her makeup chair while at the House of Payne filming studio to chat with us about fashion, the future, and the industry of Hollywood.
WTU: What's a day in the life of Eva Pigford like? EVA: The day in the life of Eva Marcille Pigford? Um, Crazy! It’s ever changing. There’s really no typical day because with all that I do from acting to modeling to hosting to entrepreneurship to EVERYTHING! To sum it up in one word: LONG! WTU: What's one piece of advice you can offer to any aspiring models and actresses such as yourself? EVA: If I had one piece of advice I would give a model or an actress: SLEEP! Because once you start,

there is no sleep! (laughs) No, I would say to be prepared for hard work. I think one of things in the business of Hollywood is that it’s supposed to be made to seem seamless and easy, but it’s not. Everything in glitter is not gold. So I would say be ready! Be ready to work. Because as shiny as it is, it’s that much work.
WTU: What's one thing you’ll never wear? EVA: You never ever catch Eva Marcille Pigford wearing Spanks.
WTU: What's next for you? EVA: What’s next for Eva Pigford? The sky is the limit! I’m currently working on a new show for WTU: Does family play a big role in who you are? Oxygen. We’re in the sophomore year of Hair Battle EVA: Family plays THE role in who I am. I’m blessed so I’m working on that and producing a couple shows. to have my cousin who is also celebrity hairstyl- Also, the new season of House of Payne has startist and make up artist actually on my team at all ed so I’m on that as well. Find me on twitter! You’ll times AND he’s my cousin, so that works out well. always know what’s up? But if it weren’t for my family, I don’t think I would be able to do what I do. They keep me grounded. WTU: What's one thing about you that your fans might not know? EVA: One thing about me that my fans might not YOU CAN FIND EVA ON TWITTER AT @EvaMarcille now about me is that I am a gamer! I love love LOVE video games!

Mark Indelicato c hat t i ng wi t h t h e fa s hi on g a ng s t e r
M
ark Idelicato grew up in Philadelphia, PA and began acting in theatre by the tender age of 6. His talent eventually led him to his breakout role in Ugly Betty where he played America Ferrera’s fashion-conscious nephew Justin Suarez on the hit ABC series Ugly Betty. Mr. Indelicato eventually transformed into a young fashion icon and is the perfect example of someone who marches to the beat of their own drum. He does his thing and does it well! Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ve heard of him. We had the pleasure of chatting with the ever so fashion-savvy boy & Fashion Week hot-shot about style and his new blog The Fashion Gangster.
34
WTU: Tell us a little bit about your knew blog, The Fashion Gangster Mark: My new blog, The Fashion Gangster is really just my own personal take on fashion. Since I am just starting it up I am reviewing a lot of collections that I saw at Fashion Week which has been quite fun. After I finish with FW stuff I will be styling and shooting my own editorials of myself and friends! WTU: What is style to you? Mark: To me, style is whatever you want it to be. Fashion is here for us to have fun with WTU: Describe your personal style and its influences
Mark: My personal style is a little 70's, yet modern at the same time (at least I think it is). I am constantly inspired by the 1970's and really by New York City as well. Rick Owens is also a huge inspiration for me when it comes to my outfits. WTU: Have any favorite famous style icons? Mark: Mary Kate Olsen is a huge style icon of mine. and I worship Rick Owens of course.
WTU: Favorite websites? Blogs? Mark: I love finding new Tumblr blogs and I really love We The Urban, so keep up the good work! I love Fashion Toast and of course the Style Rookie. WTU: What’s one clothing or accessory item that should be illegal to wear? Mark: These new "pajama jeans" that they are advertising on television...They look ugly and jeans are not supposed to be pajama doubles.

LP Fashion Philosophy M
eet Erica Lavelanet and David Pena. Together they make up LP Fashion Philosophy: a fashion styling duo right out of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The wardrobe styling duo manages wardrobe for everything from editorial shoots to ad campaigns, and even independent films. Primarily working, full-time, with artists, styling them for album covers, music videos, tours, appearances, etc. The duo met in college five years ago and have been roomies, besties, and styling ever since. The two mesh together like two peas in a pod! We caught up with the two right after returning from their lavish trip to Miami for some styling work. 36
“We’ve done so much as style full ad campaigns with upwards of 20 models but have also worked one on one with individuals, editing closets and executing other personal image consultation efforts, if you will. Tete a tete, and working one on one with artists is really what we love to do...our clients range from emerging artists working their way up on a grassroots level to household names touring worldwide and getting endless radio play. Although we’re quite young, we are overly ambitious and refuse to settle for anything mediocre.” Couldn’t you just see them with their own reality show? Keep your eyes peeled for these two. This isn’t the last you’ve heard of Erica and David.

Could this possibly be the next McQueen?
INSPIRATION:
The tragic story of Medusa and the psychological anger she represents.
STYLE:
Medusa is a change in direction for the brand. Eugene Lin is going for a slightly tougher and visceral feel as a contrast to the signature cut and drape. Definitely more showstopper.
SILHOUETTE:
slim, sophisticated and sensuous.
COLOURS & FABRIC CHOICE: Chocolate brown, black and emerald green in herringbone suiting, embossed leather and silk jersey. The new collection features stunning engineered digital prints.

wr i tten & sty l ed by B l ake J ac o bsen When forming a wardrobe it’s important to invest in versatile clothing. Statement pieces are wonderful additions (and equally important) but can be specific to their respective seasons. Even if you live in an environment that doesn’t experience much variation in weather/temperature, I find that it’s still very necessary to identify with a handful of key items. Through the course of a day, I change 2-3 times due to the temperature and occasion. Fortunately, menswear doesn’t experience much variety in regards to essentials. When it comes down to it, every man should own these items for their day to day style : A fitted blazer (find a neutral color; black, navy, etc) A black cardigan (make sure it is thin enough to fit under your blazer) A button up shirt (again, choose a neutral color) A tie and/or bow tie (go with the bow tie, you won’t regret it) A fitted pair of black jeans (I live by 510 Levi’s) A pair of dress shoes (preferably pointy-toed lace ups) A nice pair of sunglasses (remember, nice doesn’t have to mean expensive!) A bag (to carry all the listed items of course!) Apparently I like parenthesized captions. Anyhow! With those eight items, you will be equipped for all the possible situations that may arise during your workday. Flexibility is key. In order to portray how easily your attire can evolve during the course of a day, I’ve gone ahead and photographed three different looks that are appropriate for morning, midday, and evening (during the spring/ summer, that is). The basis of these looks expand upon a pair of black jeans, oxfords, and a button up shirt. 46
For the morning, it’s important to have at least one layer. Mornings can be chilly, and if you are like me, your day begins before the sun decides to start his. Therefore, wearing a cardigan over your button up shirt is a healthy medium. I prefer black layers because they easily adapt to whatever you may be wearing. However, feel free to dabble with other neutral colors. By the time lunch comes around, you find yourself in the heat of the day. Rather than suffering from heat exhaustion and/or other exaggerated, heat-related, traumatic predicaments (read: sweat), save a life by shedding a layer! In order to create a more casual look, lose your tie and feel free to undo the first button or two of your shirt. Also, roll up your sleeves some. At this point, you’ll be glad you brought along a pair of sunglasses. As your day concludes, it’s time to think about nightwear. Whether you plan on getting dinner in town, have a date to meet, or are simply destined to your favorite coffee shop, rule of thumb is to throw on a few more layers in order to look your best. No need to worry though, you’re prepared. Layer on your cardigan and tie again, as the temperature will begin to drop. Lose the shades, for obvious reasons. To add a bit of class to your look, put on your favorite fitted blazer. By simply adding a blazer, your look will suddenly appear as if you put a lot more effort in than you actually did. If it seems to be colder than usual, adding a neutral colored circle scarf is easy and adds a bit of character. As you can see, it’s not very hard to expand upon a basic look throughout the course of a day. It’s smart to be prepared at all times, as weather (at least where I live) can change on a dime. Plan ahead to avoid possible disastrous situations. You can only make one first impression!

BAMBU
Your favorite rolling paper company is totally making shirts now! Back in 2009, Sarah Saiger launched Bambu Apparel: An amazing vintage inspired clothing line inspired by Bambu’s history. Saiger built upon her family’s success and dedication to Bambu since the age of 16 when she started to collect things like postcards, adverts, and any Bambu-related art. Her Gloria De Espana collection was instantly acclaimed for its edgy deconstruction of an iconic brand. Bambu Apparel revives a rich heritage of art and advertising dating back decades.
Bambu is originally one of the world’s oldest and finest rolling paper companies. As one of the world’s 1000 Oldest Companies, the cig paper is notably known for its quality and consistency. The artwork is amazing! I wouldn’t be too surprised if I saw one of these framed and hung up on someone’s wall. The company’s iconic work has been seen everywhere from fine art galleries to the cover of “Pot Culture: The A-Z Guide to Stoner Language and Life”. While her grandfather purchased the company in 1985, her grandmother currentlyruns the company out of its Long Island headquarters. 61

WTU: How are you feeling today? MIKE: Amazing! How are you? WTU: About a year ago, you finished up your degree in sociology. How on earth did you find balance between school and your music career? MIKE: I had friends that took really good notes for me when I had to miss class. For the record, professors and Duke didn’t give a shit that I had a record deal. I did the same amount of work that my friends did. No freebies at Duke I guess! WTU: Is your latest single Please Don’t Go based on a real relationship? MIKE: Without a doubt. I grew up a hip-hop kid. Ethos and credibility are EVERYTHING in hip-hop music. This is something that is almost always lost in the pop world. This is a roundabout way of saying that the shit I say in my songs is always real. WTU: What has to be one of the funnest aspect of going on tour?

ost seniors who are in college are still trying to figure out what to do with the rest of their lives. Singer, songwriter, and producer Mike Posner already knew what he wanted to do, given that he had scored a record deal with J Records before he even began his senior year at Duke University in North Carolina. Although he had every reason to relax at that point, the Michigan native kicked the dreaded “senioritis” right in its ass rocking an impressive 3.59 GPA and graduating a semester early, while still making time to do sold out shows across the country and on the weekends. After recently releasing his debut album 31 Minutes to Take Off, Mr. Posner is strapped in for another ride with the release of his second single Please Don’t Go. We caught up with Mike at the beginning of his college tour across America to discuss tour, collaborations, and what’s next for the pop newbie!
about making porn music
and it ended up turning into Bow Chicka wow wow
MIKE: Next to the time on stage, my favorite part of the day is meeting people after the show. I don’t care if it takes me 6 hours, I stay until I get to say thank you to everyone that wants to meet me because they are the reason I get to do with I love. WTU: One of WeTheUrban’s favorite songs off of your album is Bow Chica Wow Wow. How did that song come about? MIKE: I wrote that song with my friend Bruno Mars. We were joking around about making porn music and it ended up turning into Bow Chicka Wow Wow! WTU: Favorite collaboration thus far? Who are you hoping to work with one day in your career? MIKE: I’ve been blessed to work with some INCREDIBLE artists this year (Weezy, Wiz, Big Sean, Boyz II Men, Bruno Mars, Travis Barker). My favorite is still Big Sean though, probably because he’s my homie first. WTU: Where do you see yourself in five years? MIKE: Making the best music of my life.

Justin Tranter of Semi Precious Weapons
o n t h e r o a d w i t h g ag a
”You either really love them or really hate them,” said an excited fan as he waited for NYC’s Semi Precious Weapons to take the stage at Empire in LA. That’s how it is with these guys! There is no in between and rest assured that we here in the WeTheUrban camp LOVE Semi Precious Weapons. We first discovered them in 2007 on Myspace (back when that was the hottest site in the world) and instantly fell in love. Only two years later, they were headlining with the biggest superstar in the world, Lady Gaga, in sold out shows across the entire globe. We finally got a chance to see them perform live at Gaga’s show last September and it was a spectacle to remember. You truly don’t know this Rock&Roll band until you’ve seen them live. We got to chat with front man Justin Tranter right as he embarked out on tour with Mother Monster again after taking a break to move to LA and record a brand new album:
" W e a r e b r i n g i n g r o c k N ro ll f o rwa r d n o w , i n s t ea d o f bac k. I t s v e ry e xc i t i n g . "

WTU: Hey Justin! How are you today gorgeous? JUSTIN: I am fucking wonderful! Thanks for asking. WTU: So how did Semi Precious Weapons form? JUSTIN: We met the first week of music school and the rest is gorgeous history. WTU:Are you working on a new album? Can you give us an insight into it? JUSTIN: Yes we are working on our new album we are beyond excited for all y'all to hear this! We are bringing Rock & Roll forward now, instead of back. Its very exciting. WTU: Three words to describe the new SPW music? JUSTIN: Exciting, sex, rock/dance. Any new albums you've had on repeat lately? JUSTIN: Frank Ocean's "nostalgia,ULTRA" is so good I could die. WTU: How has your transition to LA from NYC been? JUSTIN: Well, we still feel like we are an NYC band. We are in LA to make the new album. But we have found an awesome new family at Empire. And luckily lots of our NYC family (Breedlove, Darian Darling, Starlight, GaGa and more) have come to visit, so its been a good transition. However I don't know how to drive, so that makes it a little tough in LA. Haha! Lots of high heeled walking.
WTU: You're back on the road with Gaga! Any preshow rituals? JUSTIN: Drinking whiskey while painting my eyebrows red and my neck blue. WTU: Out of the hundreds or thousands of performances you've given, do you have one especially memorable show? JUSTIN: Knitting Factory July 7th 2007. Because it was our first sold out show ever, and it was the first GaGa opened for us. History. WTU: Transitioning to fashion, your necklace line is fab! Will we see any new pieces soon? JUSTIN: There are brand new pieces at Urban Outfitters right now, and hopefully some new higher end pieces at Barneys in the summer. WTU: Everyone has that one accessory or clothing item that they put on and feel like they own the world. What item is that for you? JUSTIN: Contour. WTU: Any advice for future rockstars reading this interview right now? JUSTIN: Your dreams should always be bigger than reality, and watch people have sex instead of having sex. Its safer.

From Like a G6 to Bass Down Low, superstar and part-time badass Dev is a true new age bitch in every sense of the word. We sat down with Dev and spoke with her about tour, Jeffree Star, and her new album out this summer ‘11. WTU: Hey Dev! How are you today? DEV: Heyy! im great thank you! WTU:So where were you when you first heard yourself on the radio? DEV: I was in berkeley California. The Cataracs had and I had a show up there [thats their hometown] and I was grabbing us all some burritos from Gordos real quick before our show, and on the way home I heard our song on the radio. It was one of the best feelings ever. and the burritos were great. WTU: How did you hook up with The Cataracs? Was the chemistry there from the get-go? DEV: They found me on myspace 3 years ago. I had a couple random tracks, that I had recorded on my macbook, up on some random ass myspace page and they found it and hit me up. The chemistry off top was amazing, it was very natural and authentic, we haven’t stopped working together ever since. Those guys are my brothers right there. WTU: What were you doing before you became a mega star? DEV: I was going to a junior college and working logistics at Old Navy. I can fold t shirts like a motha fucka.
82
!
WTU:Can you give us a little insight to your new album that’s dropping this summer? DEV: Yes! my album is called ‘the night the sun came up’ and its filled with my stories, questions, fears, and feelings. complete with all Catarac production :] There’s a lot of different tempos and textures on this album, some ballads, some dancey tracks and some hip-hop influenced slappers. Im 21 years old, I lived 20 of those years in manteca CA, and 1 of them in LA/ traveling the country, im excited for people to get a little taste of who i am and whats been going on. WTU: How was it touring with Jeffree Star last winter? Any funny tour stories? DEV: It was so fucking cool! Jeffree is the shit, Ive never met anyone more fabulous! I actually got a tattoo on my wrist of a quote Jeffree used to always yell and boss up on people with, “AND WHAT” haha - Are you traveling outside of the US anytime soon? Yesss! I get to travel the UK a lil bit this summer. I’m really excited, ive never been over there yet so its about to be amazing. WTU: Your shoes in the Bass Down Low video are fierce! Do you have a favorite fashion brand? DEV: HELLZ BELLZ. WWW.WHATtheHELLZ.com WTU: When you’re not creating contagiously sick music, who do you like to listen to? DEV: The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Waka Flocka, Gucci, Rick Ross, 50 Cent, The Husalah, Brand New, Drake, Nicki Minaj, and like random/weird old punk rock stuff.
Look out for DEV as the opening act for Usher’s latest OMG Tour

This woman needs no introduction! We got the rare opportunity of chatting with Lady Gaga’s best friend of eight years and from what we’ve learned, she’s definitely a class of her own. “Birds of a feather, do flock together” as they say. WTU: So how did you actually start dj-ing? Very simple, no one was playing what i wanted to hear, so i started my own party. It was 2003 and i was obsesses with 70's glam rock. Not just the obvious, Bowie, Bolan and Roxy, but deep cuts from Slade and Sweet, Gary Glitter, Suzi, Alvin Stardust, Sparks, Mud, i could go on and on... So I started my party (a tribute to rodney BVingenheimer) Lady Starlight's English Disco. WTU When you first met Gaga, was it love at first sight? Absolutely! we immeditely recognized each other as kindred spirits. and when we found out we were both 'Ladys'...the rest is history WTU So you've got a degree and philosophy and you're a make up artist? What made you pursue a career in music? WTU Music is and always has been the genesis for everything i do. So my other pursuits were really just back up because i was afraid to pursue my real passion. GaGa was instrumental in giving me the confidence to go for it. WTU Top 5 things the Lady's like to do on the road? I'd like to say sex drugs an rock n roll, but the reality being a musician on the road these days couldnt be further from that! I work all the time, researching, 96
record shopping, trolling thrift and dollar stores for strange clothing and accessories, working out, but mostly planning and scheming for the next artistic statement....(evil laugh..) WTU Any funny back stage tour moments with Gaga? GaGa reapplying fake blood from her show to meet Alice Cooper WTU Will you still be accompanying Gaga on the Born This Way Ball? Yes! I dont know if the world is ready for my next incarnation.. WTU If you could live in any decade from the 1900s, which one would you choose? WTU 1910's im down with 'Red Pepper: A Spicy Rag' by Henry Lodge and lampshade tunics WTU We know you love your Rock N Roll, but what do you think of most of the top 40 hits on the charts recently? Any guilty pleasures? If i owned a tv or listened to the radio i might have a better idea...so the fact im happy knowing nothing about popular music or culture speaks for itself. WTU Do you read magazines or blogs? Have any favorites? Most people dont know a bout my extreme passion for fitness....the only magazines i read are Oxygen, Fitness Rx, and Muscle and Fitness Hers..for real..with the exception of WeTheUrban of course

BAD GI RL LLEA EA LLORTRAI ORTRAI NE
135
Lea Lorraine embodies every aspect of the word sexy! We deem her our modern day Marilyn Monroe with a touch of rock & roll. You most likely remember her from Oxygen’s Bad Girls Club season 5 as the notorious head bitch of the house, or from the new Oxygen love show Love Games alongside Natalie Nunn, Amber B, and Brooklyn born host Tanisha Thomas. Bad girls need love too!
Well damn! You’re just naturally and effortlessly beautiful then! LEA: Well I mean make up doesn’t hurt! Makeup helps a lot! I don’t look the same way I do when I wake up as opposed to me being on camera. It’s way different. Ya know, I’ll add some like.. well I’m not even gonna say “some”, I add a lot of makeup when it’s camera time! [laughs]
Who was Lea Lorraine before the bad girls club? Who are some of your favorite style icons? LEA: Exactly what you see. And I know that’s what a lot of people say “what you see is what you get” and it isn’t so much true for everyone, but I genuienly haven’t changed at all. I’m still that same girl that worked at a tattoo shop and went to art school and I’m not any different. The only difference is that, ya know, I don’t have as much free time [laughs].
LEA: This is my style: Betty Page meets Mick Jagger. I love just being a woman and putting my heels and makeup on, but still at the same time, having that same influence from my music that I grew up with and being able to like, throw on some leather and studs! It’s a lot of the two!
What’s your nationality.
Have you heard of Tumblr?
LEA: I’m from Brazil and my mother is from Brazil. My father is from France, but I feel more Brazilian than anything else because it’s been my culture my whole life and I speak portguese, and it’s been basically all i’ve known. I haven’t gotten the chance to go to France yet, so I basically say that i’m white and brazilian.
LEA: Yeah! I found out about it actually a little while ago. This sweetheart of a girl made a Tumblr dedicated to me. I actually checked out WeTheUrban’s Tumblr when I found out I was going to do this interview, and it’s really sick actually! It doesn’t even look like the regular Tumblr’s that I see. It’s really well put together and it almost looks like an official website!
You’re notroious as one of the (if not the most) beautiful girls in BGC history. Do you have any secret beauty tips for any of our readers?
Aww, well thank you! You know I’m only 16 right?
LEA: I’m gonna be really honest with you. I don’t really do much! I’m really lazy to be honest. I’m kinda really fuckin’ lazy. I wake up in the morning and I don’t even take my make up off from 3 days ago, like I’m a mess. I’m a hot mess! [laughs]. So I can’t be like “oh! I use this eye cream. And I do this and that once a week” haha, I really can’t tell you that shit because I really don’t do that. I’m really fuckin’ lazy to be honest! [laughs].
LEA: No you’re not?! Good for you honey! Putting in your work! Good for you! Keep that good work ethic and you’re gonna go places! Thank you so much! But back to you! As you know, WeTheUrban (along with fashion) heavily posts on art, design, technology, and the like. Art seems to obviously be a huge part of your life with all of these tattoos you have. Can you tell us about your favorite tattoo?
o o o o o o OOOOO o 136
LEA: All of my tattoos are my favorite tattoo! I honestly get tattoos for different reasons. They represent different parts of my life, things that I’ve gone through, or people that are important to me. Obviously I have a tattoo of my mother on my arm, she’s just been my biggest inspiration to me for my entire life and I love her. I didn’t want to get this tattoo as a memorial, I wanted to get it while she was still with us. I wanted her to know that I got it because I love her everyday. I also got a John Lennon tattoo of the song “Imagine” on my ribs. I was in a car accident and I was hospitalized for a long time, so it was a song that just really stuck with me during that time and helped me get through an extremely hard time. That song really helped teach me to always live for today because tomorrow is never guaranteed.
LEA: Absolutely not. Not at all! But I get Natalie’s hustle. She’s one way for the cameras because she needs to continue to produce that image because that’s what made Natalie, Natalie. You know? So what Natalie does, is she took that personality and made it her trademark. So she disregards are people and relationships she has while shes on camera and portrays herself and something she thinks people would want to see. And I think that’s where we differ. I’m exactly the same way off camera as I am on camera, but you know.. everyone has their own hustle and that’s them.
LEA: Hmm.. what turns me on? I like a guy that’s confident. You don’t have to be Brad Pitt or whatever. You have to act like you think you’re that bad. You know, there’s a difference between cockyness and confidence. And if you can walk in with swag like “I can own this shit”, to me that’s so appealing and very attractive.
So what’s next for Lea Lorraine?
Are you still close with any of the bad girls from any of the seasons?
LEA: Yes! Me and Kayleigh from season 5. We’re like best friends, you know what, I don’t even want to say I’m loving LoveGames so far! What turns Lea Lor- best friends: we’re like sisters! She’s actually my roomraine on? mate and I love her. She’s a sweetheart.
LEA: You know what, I don’t know really! Tomorrow I have a photo shoot for TITS, so if you want to buy my t-shirt and see my sexy ass on a t-shirt you better rock it honey! (laughs). I just turned 24 and this is just all been a great opportunity, so I’m just seeing where this is taking me for right now. But ultimately my goal in The show itself seems legit, but is Natalie Nunn life would be to be a celebrity stylist or have my own truly that blunt and outrageous off camera? clothing line!

THE PAINTINGS OF DAVID LYLE
I
nspired by snapshots from the 1950s, 60s and 70s David Lyle creates oil paintings that mix modern art and pop culture. Working from found photographs taken in the 50s, 60s and 70s, Lyle meticulously paints them in muted oils, recreating seemingly random scenes from a bygone era. “I find that there is a certain innocence and ignorance of the past that is fun to poke at the underlying dark belly of the clean cut Americana.” the Manhattan artist tells us.” My paintings are inspired from found photographs or ‘discarded memories.’ I feel that to find a lost photo and paint it, allows the photo and the
142
memory to have a second life. Although I don’t know the people in the paintings, I can relate to certain memories and certain times in my own life. By using black and sepia tones, the paintings take on a nostalgic or cinematic mood and I generally try to keep a voyeuristic feel to them, as if the subject is unaware that they are being watched. I like to keep my paintings realistic yet hazy, just like memories can be.” You can view his work in the flesh at some upcoming group shows coming up soon in June. One at Gallery Nosco in London and one here in New York at Lyons Wier gallery.

eet German artist Katharina Grosse. She is most notably known for the vibrant palette and exuberant gestures of her largescale canvases and raucous installations which merge painting, sculpture, and architecture. What amazes me about her as an artist is not only her use and choice of color or the environment she sets her works in, but how she has developed and evolved the possibilities of this one simple medium over a pretty decent period of time. In her latest installment, Katharina Grosse has managed to transform the architecture of MASS MoCA’s Building 5 with her latest installation. The walls, floor, facades, and four huge 65ft wide, 23ft high piles of soil (which appear to be spilling out from the upper balcony into the gigantic space below) have all been painted extravagantly with a vibrant, psychadelic palette. The show is open now and will be running through to 31 October. MASS MoCA 87 Marshall Street North Adams, MA 01247
