Weyburn Communithon committee selling 50-50 tickets

The Communithon is fast approaching and many committees are meeting and planning for the event, which will be held on Friday, October 23. With only three months remaining, the Communithon committee will be selling a 50/50 raffle. There are many people volunteering behind the scenes to make this year’s event a success, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Who would not like to take home some cash? It is as simple as buying a 50/50 ticket from any of the 11 Community Agencies that have been accepted for funding during the 2020 Communithon.

As typical with a 50/50, half of the winnings goes to the winner, and the other half goes back to the Communithon. Tickets are three for $10, and in case that all tickets are sold, the winner could possibly take home $2,500. The draw date for the 50/50 will be Friday, October 23. Representatives from the following 11 Community Agencies have 50/50 tickets that they are selling: Brothers Big Sisters Weyburn, Canadian Mental Health Association, Canadian Red Cross, Community Low Income Centre, CNIB Foundation, Envision Counselling and Support Centre, Inclusion Weyburn, Spinal Cord In-

jury Saskatchewan, Weyburn Care-a-Van, Weyburn Special Care Home Auxiliary, and Weyburn Youth Centre. The goal of the Communithon committee is to continue to plan for the 2020 Communithon, which will be tentatively held at the Weyburn Royal Canadian Legion on Friday, October 23. The Communithon committee is dedicated to ensuring that our community agencies receive the funding and support they require, so that they can provide necessary programming and services to residents in the Weyburn area. The organization will be following the Saskatchewan protocol for

Applications open for Weyburn Youth Council Applications are now open for the 2020-21 Weyburn Youth Council to any Grade 10-12 students at the Weyburn Comprehensive School who are interested in gaining an understanding of municipal government and representing the voice of Weyburn’s youth. The City of Weyburn strives to provide a meaningful mechanism for local youth to have a say and effect change in their community through the Youth Council or WYC. Members of WYC meet once a month to discuss important community topics, take part in City Council meetings and make recommendations on specific municipal issues they have identified. Former WYC members found their time with the program to be extremely rewarding. “Youth Council helped me become more aware of what was happening in Weyburn,” said Youth Mayor Megan Ebel. “I learned how the city is run and helped to be a voice for the youth in community decisions.” Youth councillor Lincoln Alexander said, “I found myself engaging with clubs and groups in Weyburn, experiencing and

having a say in big decisions first hand, improving my resume and connecting with the mayor and city councillors.” Applications forms can be found on the City of Weyburn website (www.weyburn.ca/ youth-council) and the deadline to apply for the upcoming ses-

sion is Sept. 11, 2020. “The voice and input of young people in our community is of utmost value to our City Council and staff,” said Paige Tenbult, communications coordinator for the City of Weyburn and administrative support for WYC.
