New faces, familiar faces at Gateway

The 12th annual Gateway Music Festival will be held in Bengough on July 22 to 24. It is a new year, a new festival and a new lineup, after artistic director Michael Dawson worked hard to bring a perfect balance of entertainment for the whole family to the Gateway Festival.
According to the Bengough Municipal Arts Council, there were many people who made it possible for the Gateway Festival to continue and grow. “We are becoming the event to book your holidays around.”
“Every year it is the community and the audience that make the festival such a celebrated success,” said Dawson. “Whether this is your first time attending the festival or you’re a returning supporter I encourage you to explore Bengough and the surrounding area.”
In addition to the two main stages providing entertainment during the Gateway Festival, there is also a children’s area, artisans, food vendors, a songwriter circles and workshop at the Pool Stage and the Culture and Concert Crawl. The Culture and Concert Walk is a guided tour through Bengough with acoustic performances by artists at a series of unique and unlikely locations. It starts at noon on Saturday, July 23.
There is a great selection of entertainers who will hit the stage during the Gateway Festival. “I’m very proud of the 2016 line up and I hope that it offers something to satisfy everyone’s tastes,” said Dawson.
The two showcased entertainers for Friday, July 22 is Corb Lund and Sloan.
Corb Lund is a Canadian roots-country singer/ songwriter whose third album “Five Dollar Bill” established him as a favorite among critics. Prior to his mainstream breakthrough, he was a member of the Smalls, a punk rock band from Edmonton. Born in Alberta, where he grew up on his family’s farm in the small town of Taber, Lund moved to Edmonton to study music at Grant MacEwan Community College.
Sloan is without doubt the most truly democratic group in the annals of rock, with Jay Ferguson, Chris Murphy, Patrick Pentland, and Andrew Scott all contributing original compositions to each record.
