We are a meaningful & relevant alternative. We are just like banks in many ways - we offer the same products and services (with convenient access) and we are open to everyone. The difference? We believe a financial institution should be worthy of your business; Weyburn Credit Union is run on principle - using our profits for your good - not our pockets.

If you’re grumpy & you know it - switch your bank! We take the heavy lifting out of switching banks; we’ll coordinate the transfer of your pre-authorized payments and direct deposits. Depending on the billing companies, it will take about four to six weeks. We understand it takes a bit of effort to change bank accounts so we really appreciate it. We promise it will be worth it!

Weyburn

Spotlight on

The City of Weyburn is located on Highway 39 at the junction with Highways 35 and 13 in southeast Saskatchewan on the banks of the Souris River, about 110 kilometres southeast of Regina. Weyburn was formed as a village in 1900, a town in 1903 and finally as a city in 1913. Weyburn is the largest inland grain gathering point in Canada. Well over half a million tons of grain pass through the Weyburn terminals each year. Oil and gas exploration make up the other major component of the economy. Whether you look for commercial services or community services, you will find both are well-established in Weyburn. Canada’s major banks are represented, as well as a major Credit Union, plus a solid

professional sector made up of accounting, insurance, legal and medical services. communications services include newspapers, radio and cable television. An extensive, modern education system includes one of the province’s leading comprehensive high schools, and extends to the Southeast College with university-level programs as well as vocational training. The city provides a wide variety of sports and recreation facilities, including many with free access. There are libraries, galleries, art centers and museums. Nearby water sources not only provide for home and business needs, but have also become major recreation centres for golf, boating, camping and fishing.

WEYBURN PARKS River Park, set along the banks of the Souris River just south of Highway #39, has many mature shade trees and beautifully manicured grounds and is consider the jewel of Weyburn’s park system. River Park has numerous picnic and barbeque areas, washroom facilities, and playground equipment that meets all current C.S.A standards . River Park is also home to River Park Campground, which is open from the May long-weekend through mid-fall (weather dependant). Recently installed in 2016, there is a spray park in River Park for all families to enjoy. River Park is also the starting point of Tatagwa Parkway’s Signal Hill Trail system. Tatagwa Parkway consists of 180 acres of land adjacent to the Souris River as it meanders through the City of Weyburn. The land has been developed as an urban conservation park dedicated to the preservation of native flora and fauna. Tatagwa Parkway consists of two areas, the Signal Hill Nature

Habitat and the Red Coat Nature Habitat, which are protected from vehicle traffic by post and chain fence. A total of eight-anda-half kilometers of trails have been developed for walking and biking enjoyment, as well as access roads and parking lots. Jubilee Park is located directly east of the Leisure Centre on First Avenue NE, and boasts a number of ball diamonds as well as soccer and football fields. The park also includes jogging and biking trails, walking paths, tennis courts, picnic areas, a playground, and an outdoor skating rink in the winter months. A special feature for visitors by Jubilee Park is the Pioneer Woman statue, which was installed in 2015 in tribute to the pioneer women who helped settle the prairies, and the role they played in establishing communities.

landmark buildings in Weyburn There a number of important heritage and historical properties in and around Weyburn for people to check out. The Weyburn Court House is an important landmark building at the end of Third Street on Prairie Avenue. Constructed in 1928, it was designed by provincial architect Maurice Sharon, who designed the Court House to be an architectural landmark befitting the centre of a prosperous, wheat-growing district.

The W.O. Mitchell House, located on Sixth Street, was the residence of the famous Canadian author. Bill was born in Weyburn in March of 1914, second eldest son of O.S. Mitchell, druggist, who arrived in Weyburn in 1903. “Who Has Seen the Wind”, Bill’s first novel (1947) was based on his childhood memories of the prairie where he grew up. Bill has become one of Canada’s best known writers. This residence was owned by the Mitchell’s until 1971.

The Weyburn Security Bank, housed in the building above at the corner of Third Street and Souris Avenue, was the only Saskatchewan chartered bank to operate in this Province. The bank functioned from 1910 until 1931, and had 32 branch offices at one time. As the head office, the design of this building reflects traditional bank institutional features to give the building a sense of security and prominence. The bank was purchased by the The Imperial Bank of Canada in 1931. The Imperial Bank of Canada merged with the The Canadian Bank of Commerce in 1961 becoming the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), as it remains to this day.

merous productions and events throughout the year. While attending events at the Tommy Douglas Centre, be sure to tour the T.C. Douglas Centre archive room. In 2004, Mr. Douglas was voted in a national television event as “The Greatest Canadian” . The water tower is constructed of an inner steel tank, 20 feet in diameter and 80 feet high, with a capacity of 150,000 imperial gallons. The unique timber housing is 25 feet in diameter and 95 feet high. The Canadian Engineering Heritage Record considered the Weyburn standpipe water reservoir as a water works landmark monument. The entrance to the tower was demolished by a windstorm in 1976 and was reconstructed to its original design in 1982. In 1977 the water tower was taken out of service. It was declared a Municipal Heritage Property on June 23, 1987. The Weyburn water tower is one of only four remaining in the province.

RD Family Funeral Chapel and Crematorium was founded in May 2003 and opened the full service funeral home to the public in late November, 2003. Duane Dionne and Rick Dutchak formed a partnership as co-owners, along with the support of their families. In 2008 they purchased a crematorium and formed ownership of Weyburn Crematorium. In 2017, RD Family Funeral Chapel installed a Columbarium at Hillcrest Cemetery, for those families that choose cremation as another option for burial. Rick and Duane have several years of experience in the funeral service profession and serving the families of Weyburn and surrounding area. This past year they both celebrated 25 years of service to the funeral profession. We are proud of the fact that we are the “only locally owned funeral home” in Weyburn. “We believe it’s important to use a funeral home that has an investment in the local community.”We believe in supporting the many charities, organizations and businesses within the communities we serve. A sense of giving back, because we are people within the community, people you know and trust, raising our families while supporting the local services and businesses. Duane has resided in Weyburn most of his life. He received his education and work experience in Weyburn. In 1992 he received his Funeral Director and Embalmer Certificate. Duane is married to Tammy and together they have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. Rick and his family moved to Weyburn in 1990. He received his Certificate for Funeral Director and Embalmer in 1993. Prior to that held a license of qualification from Manitoba in 1988. Rick is married to Irene and together they have 2 children. Along with a dedicated full and part-time staff we strive to provide professional funeral services with dignity, respect, integrity and value. From the beginning we have started a tradition of excellent service and commitment to the communities and families we serve.

REDUCING WASTE FOR 4 GENERATIONS Mryglod Steel & Metals Inc. is now in its 4th generation of owners, remaining the family owned business we’ve always been. We focus on reducing waste and recycling as many materials as possible. We offer a great selection of affordable metal options. We take pride in the variety we have to offer our customers to complete their projects. Introducing recycled metal into company’s raw material chain can not only save them thousands of dollars over time, but also speed up their production times. Our experience has made our business one of the leanest operations in the industry. We know that efficiency on our end equals better value for the customer. We continually seek new and innovative processes that keep our prices down and make our operations the absolute best they can be. The metal recycling we do processes used materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution (from incineration) and water pollution (from land filling) by reducing the need for “conventional” waste disposal, and lower greenhouse gas emissions as compared to virgin production.

We carry a complete stock of: • Angles • Brass • Beams • Cable • Chain • Channel • Flats • Pipe • Expanded Metal • Sheet & Plate • Rebar • Wire Mesh • Rounds • Shafting • Bolts • Welding Supplies • Square & Rectangular Tubing • Hardware • Tools & Fittings
