1.Sodium Iodide is not an electrophilic source for Iodine because Iodine is the least reactive of all the halogens, and it itself does not serve as a base, due to its positive charge. This means that Sodium Iodide needs an Oxidizing agent to make it a strong electrophile.
2.Sodium Hypochlorite is an oxidizing agent for Sodium Iodide, which in turn contributes a strong, electrophilic Iodide atom to the aromatic ring in the final product. The mixture was orange/red, indicating the two substances added, then the mixture changed to a pale yellow indicating that the reaction started, and a precipitate formed, indicating that the Iodine attached to the Salicylamide, and the reaction was complete.
3.It was necessary to add Sodium thiosulfate at the end of the reaction, because Sodium thiosulfate remove any excess Iodine ions in that it reduces the ions to Sodium Iodide and stops the reaction, to prevent any more electrophilic substitution.

The iodination of O–acetylsalicylamide under the same conditions of this experiment would be slower than Salicylamide, because O–acetylsalicylamide has an amine group, a carboxyl group, and no hydroxyl group, which means that the sodium hypochlorite solution would not be able to deprotonate the Hydroxyl group, thus not allowing a solid precipitate to form, and Hydrochloric acid would not be able to add any Hydrogen atoms due to the Octet rule. The only way that Hydrogen could be added is by breaking double bonds and stabilization (Resonance). And steric hindrance would be another key facet slowing the addition of an Iodine ion to the

My First Ramadan Experience
My First Ramadan Experience "Greetings! We inform you that the Ramadan moon sighting wait has ended and the first fast for the following countries will take place in a couple of hours...", exclaimed the newscaster. The news report was continuing to inform listeners of the differing dates for the start of the holy month. I questioned eagerly, "Mom, can I please fast?" I'm nine years old now. "Honey, fasting is a day–long commitment. Also, it is more than not eating or drinking anything." It took a long time for me to satisfy my mom; however, I was allowed to start my first fast. Furthermore, my first Ramadan experience taught me more than not eating or drinking for a religious value; in fact, it disclosed me to a book of principles to live by, makingfamily unity, patience and consistency, and respect and contribution a part of my individuality.
It was overwhelming for me to see the whole family together, crowded around the television, possessing the same amount of excitement. "The US will be starting their fast at the start of sunrise", stated the man. I had fallen asleep, listening to the news. Next thing I knew, I awoke to the sounds of my mom making our special breakfast specials, consisting of 'Halwa', 'Parathas', eggs, and tea; it was time for 'Sehri', the

How to Celebrate Eid Al–Adha Eid Al–Adha, an Arabic term meaning "the feast of sacrifice", is one of the prominent and holy days of Islamic celebration that takes place annually. Eid Al–Adha celebration begins after the leaving of the pilgrims performing the Hajj the Mount Arafat, a hill east of Mecca. All Muslims around the world celebrate Eid Al–Adha to show respect to the willingness of Abraham, the Muslims' prophet. In Afghanistan, Muslims celebrate Eid Al–Adha in various ways. Mostly, their customs and traditions are based on three performances through all the Eid days; that is, Morning Prayer, Family and Relatives Eid greetings. Each of the above performances has its own special way and time to be performed. The examples show that in addition to having dependency and faith to Islamic customs, Afghanistan has its own special independent tradition of the celebrating Eid Al–Adha. As soon as the sun rises in the first day of Eid Al–Adha, Afghans get ready for the first performance which consist of Morning Prayer and sacrifice. Firstly men, elders of Afghan families, try to perform Vozo, an Arabic...show more content... On the first day of Eid, people visit their relatives, but visiting families that have sorrow from the death of a loved one comes first. The reason why they greet these families first, is to show condolences even in the Eid Al–Adha day, the day of happiness. Then people choose where to go based on their desires, this process will continue until the end of the first Eid day. In short, celebrating Eid Al–Adha is different in Afghanistan from other Islamic countries. Therefore, people who do not live in Afghanistan come back to their country to celebrate Eid in their own tradition and hometown. Moreover, different ethnicities in Afghanistan mostly have similar traditions and may have some minor differences from each

Eid ul–Fitr (Arabic: Ш№ЩЉШЇ Ш§Щ„ЩЃШ·Ш± 'ДЄdu l–Fiб№r‎), often abbreviated to Eid, is a three–day Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm). Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiб№r means "conclusion of the fast"; and so the holiday celebrates the conclusion of the thirty days of dawn–to–sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. The first day of Eid, therefore, falls on the first day of the month Shawwal. Eid–ul–Fitr Salat (Namaz in Urdu/Persian) is a Wajib (strongly recommended, just short of obligatory) or mandoob (preferable) – depending on which juristic opinion is followed – Islamic prayer consisting of two raka'ah (units)[1] which is generally offered in an open field or large...show more content...
This is how Eid–Ul–Fitr was born. This three–day long celebration ends the ninth month and begins the tenth month of Shawwal with absolute happiness and contentment for the ability to sacrifice for Allah. The aim of this festival is to promote peace, strengthen the feeling of brotherhood and bring oneself back to the normal course of life after a month–long period of self–denial and religious devotion. [edit] General rituals Common greetings during this holiday are the Arabic greeting 'Eid MubДЃrak ("Blessed Eid") or 'Eid Sa'eed ("Happy Eid"). In addition, many countries have their own greetings based on local language and traditions – in Turkey, for example, a typical saying might be BayramД±nД±z kutlu olsun or "May your Bayram – Eid – be blessed." Muslims are also encouraged on this day to forgive and forget any differences or past animosities that may have occurred with others during the year. Typically, Muslims wake up relatively early in the morning–always before sunrise– offer Salatul Fajr (the pre–sunrise prayer), and in keeping with the Sunnah (traditions and actions of the Prophet Muhammad), clean one's teeth with a Miswaak or toothbrush, take a shower (Ghusul) after Fajr prayers, put on new

Eid-Ul-Fitr
The Five Pillars of Islam are the framework of Islamic life. First off, a Muslim must have faith in Allah and believe that there is only one Allah and Muhammad is His messenger. Next, a Muslim has the duty to pray five times each day, which is considered to be a direct link between him and Allah. Third, aMuslim must distribute alms and help the needy. Fourth, a Muslim is responsible to keep the Fast of Ramadan. Lastly, a Muslim is obligated to make a pilgrimage to Mecca in his lifetime. Most non– Islamic people do not know why these pillars are so important to the Islamic religion. One of the most questioned, is the fourth pillar, since fasting symbolizes such different things in all religions. In Judaism and Christianity fasting is...show more content...
It is very significant that a Muslim spends a lot time with his family and friends, throughout this month, and realizes what is truly important in his life. Many more Muslims attend Mosques during Ramadan because they believe that Allah will help them understand the essentials of life. Throughout Ramadan all Muslims are strictly obligated to pray five times each day and, in addition, attend Mosque and have a nightly prayer, called Taraween, which is two to three times as long as the usual daily prayers. Along with praying, Muslims celebrate significant days in the month. "On the evening of the 27th day of the month, Muslims celebrate the Laylat–al–Qadr (the Night of Power)" (Zahid). This night is Jafari 3 celebrated because it is believed by all Muslims that it was the night that Muhammad first received the revelation of the Quran and the night when Allah determines the future of the world for the next year. By celebrating nights like this along with praying at home and in a Mosque, a Muslim becomes much closer to Allah and in return gets to know their own identity much better. Reading out of the Quran and worshipping Allah is one of the most important things to do during the Fast of Ramadan.

The Importance Of Information Privacy
Our research rests upon two pillars. The first one is related to how we conceptualize the privacy concept and the other is the model proposed by Miltgen and Reyrat–Guillard (2014). In our research, we focus on information privacy, which can be categorized as a sub–construct of the general privacy construct (Smith et. al., 2011). More specifically, we define informationprivacy as factual privacy, which deals with "issues about the access, collection, dissemination and use of personal factual information" within the context of online social network sites (Zhang et. al., 2011). Our second pillar is the Miltgen and Peyrat–Guillard model (Miltgen and Peyrat–Guillard, 2014). This model is developed based on a qualitative research, which uses 14 focus groups from 7 EU countries. The authors study how citizens in E.U. countries decide to disclose and protect their personal information.
The key conclusion of this study is that an E.U. citizen's national culture and age influence both the information privacy concerns and behaviors such as disclosure and protection strategies. The authors note that younger individuals have a more positive attitude towards data management, feel more responsible and capable to prevent personal information misuse when compared to older individuals. They further emphasize that younger generation may have relatively lower information privacy concerns, and this may be related to deploying greater amount of data protection strategies. On the other hand,

Year End Reflection 2016
When I think of grade 8, I think of all the sports I play and how much I developed as a student athlete from the beginning of the year to now. Why sports comes to mind when I think of grade 8 is because this would be the year where I'm transitioning from grade 8 to high school, which means I will have to start taking sports more seriously, because in high school sports, for example, infootball you have to be really good, and you can't depend on being a "good athlete' because when you get to the next level of playing football (high school) everyone is a good athlete, and you start to realize that being athletic will only take you so far.
My main sport that I play is football. I started playing football when I was 11, when I started I was pretty good. I was playing at a position lots of players wanted to play, linebacker, and I didn't really take it to my advantage because I know anything about football, but as that season went on I started getting better at my position, but the following year, I was played at a different position because the kids we were playing with were a year older than me, that's when I realized if I wanted to be a good player, I had to try, and that is when I really started developing in football, the...show more content...

Social Identity Theory and Fees Must Fall Protests

Phoenix Falconer–Pincus
Protests play a highly significant role in generating awareness of a certain topic, grievance or issue that may affect certain demographics or groups of people. The below essay aims to explore the connection between social and collective identity, and its influence and importance in protests. This will be done by discussing the "FeesMustFall" movement that was aimed at getting free tertiary education in South Africa. The protests were mainly student orientated and were highly documented.
An individual's identity is shaped and created by many factors such as family, culture, and friendship groups (Trepte, S. 2206). The individual's personal identity of "self" may alter when interacting with any of these groups due to the influence and the characteristics these groups possess (Burke, PJ. Sets, JE. 2000). The human desire to feel a sense of belonging is the driving force for individuals to create themselves around particular groups (Trepte, S. 2206). When people find out that their experiences, thoughts and feelings are mirrored by other people, an immediately connection is formed due to the understanding that they are not isolated in their experiences (Rogers, W.S. 2011). The common ground individuals find in others, allows for the formation of groups (Trepte, S. 2206). The "commonality" amongst certain groups of people allow for Social Categorization (Burke, PJ. Sets, JE. 2000). Social

The holiday I choose is a Islamic holiday called Eid al adha. Eid al adha is very well known around the world. Eid al Adha means festival of sacrifice. Eid al adha marks the completion of the annual Hajj, the pilgrimage to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. During the festival of Eid al adha, all Muslims celebrate Ibrahim's trial by slaughtering an animal such as cow, sheep, camel, or goat. Eid al–Fitr is holiday that follows the month of Ramadan. The three–day Islamic holiday of Eid al–Fitr, celebrates the end of Ramadan, the Muslims holy month during which individuals fast from sunrise to sunset. Eid al–Adha is very important holiday to Muslims like Christian is to Charismas.

The meat is distributed during the days of the holiday or shortly thereafter. A sense of generosity and gratitude colors these festivities. Each Muslim family is encouraged to sacrifice an animal and split it in three and one –third for the needy, one–third for friends and family and one–third for themselves.
The Pilgrimage to Mecca is one of the five pillars of Islam. Going to Hajj at least once in his or her lifetime is mandatory by Muslim if he or she can afford it. The Hajj happens after the month of Ramadan. Muslims from all over the world, including the United States, travel to Makkah in Saudi Arabia. The Hajj is designed to develop God awareness and a sense of spiritual up liftment. It is also believed to be an opportunity to seek forgiveness of sins accumulated throughout life. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had said that a person who performs Hajj properly "will return as a newly born baby free of all sins." The pilgrimage also enables Muslims from all around the world, of different colors, languages, races, and ethnicities, to come together in a spirit of universal brotherhood and sisterhood to worship the One God together.

What is faith? Faith is something different to everyone. If you asked a hundred different people, it is possible that you would get many diverse answers. Religious faith and non–religious faith are two very distinct terms. Faith holds an extremely complex meaning when discussing it in the context of religion. Faith is a belief. That holds true to every religious and non–religious person. Every faith involves a decision. It is not about what we claim to believe, but what we actually do believe, that is true faith. Throughout this paper, I am going to discuss Christian faith, how it pertains to daily life and Christianity as a whole. I also intend to delve into George W. Forell's discussion of Christian faith and analyze and...show more content...
You can not have religion without faith. George W. Forell states that "faith is universal," (Forell 1). By this Forell is saying that everyone has some sort of belief, they believe in something or somebody. Forell is not limiting this belief to God, or gods for that matter, he simply means that all humans believe in something– money, or education, or the general goodness of mankind. Forell goes on to also describe Christian faith; "Classical Protestantism asserts that God wants fellowship with man and that if we trust completely in Jesus Christ and his work we will have communion with God. This complete and utter trust in Jesus Christ is faith," (Forell 19). I tend to side with George W. Forell and his explanation of Christian faith.
Christian faith has an implication of love. It is strictly a personal act. The "agape" that exists between the lord and all of his creations is manifested into each religion's faith. This agape is the respect, connection, and intellectual virtue that exist between men and women and their belief in God. Faith can also be thought of as a perception. It is not a conclusion or a proof; "it is not an explanation of the world, an argument from causality, an apologetic of creation," (Chenu 2). Faith is neither black or

What is Faith? Essay
Waking up that early in the morning is bad enough... but waking up to take a freezing cold shower? Insanity is the word. I mean, sure, you wait for an entire month (give or take a day) for that very occasion. Expensive clothes are purchased, tantalising dishes are made and stocked away in the fridge and wallets/purses are emptied for the influx of more green stuff. Yeah, that's right. It's none other than Eid–ul–Fitr. Not to insult the religion or anyone, sometimes one thinks that as time goes on even a simple, enjoyable occasion like this can get bogged down with too many... um... attachments. That begs the question: are there too many strings attached in order to make Eid–ul–Fitr a truly joyous celebration? Firstly, there's the unnecessary task of visiting various tailors and seamstresses all for the purpose of having them craft seven to eight pieces of overtly extravagant apparel that one will don only for a day or two. Okay, maybe they will garb themselves in those very vestments once all memory on the part of others has faded, but by that time, they'll have amassed yet another wardrobe of items. Sort of defeats the purpose, doesn't it? Of course, there are also the pre–Eid preparations that go on for three to four nights prior to the occasion. Sweet delectables of innumerable colours and shapes are everywhere in the kitchen and recall descriptions from 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. Yet sadly, the bulk of these end up un–devoured and are relegated to becoming

There are several ways to gather information, systemic observation, self–reporting, clinical studies and ethnographies of life circumstances. (Berk 2014) Using the systemic observation uses observing in two differetn settings. In naturalistic observation objects natural environment in which the subject would be in its everyday surroundings. Structured observation in which the subject would be observed in a controlled setting such as a lab. When using structured observation the environemtn can be controlled to be the same for each participant which might prevent subjects from behaving as they would in their everyday lives.
Using self reports has participants answer questions. Interviews can be relaxed, conversation style or more structured like a test. (Berk 2014) This may cause problems because it could be difficult to compare answers.
The case study or clinical method allows a bigger picture of one individual be studied. In this method the goal is to get as much information as possible from many angels which is helpful with individual cases. The unfortunat part is these findings are only useful for each individual.

In March of 1996, 2.6 million cows were slaughtered in the United Kingdom in an effort to rid themselves of the invasion of the Mad Cow disease. Another term for Mad Cow disease is Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), which is a disease observed solely in cattle. Mad Cow disease or BSE is transmitted to humans via the consumption of infected beef resulting in a fatal human brain disorder known as Creutzfeldt–Jacob (CJD). As a result of this "British beef scare" 32 people died of CJD, of whose deaths were linked to Mad Cow disease (10.e). Similarly, 1 million chickens were gassed to death in Hong Kong in 1997 in order to prevent the already undertaking spread of Influenza A (H5N1) or "Bird Flu". The worst Influenza A epidemic occurred in the United States killing 20 million people in 1918 (10.b). In New York last month, five people died of a rare encephalitis disease caused by a West Nile–like virus, which is believed to have been transmitted from birds, who researchers found to have died from the West Nile virus (8). True, Jesus' (As) birth is a belief amongst Muslims, but so is the sacrificial symbol of the Adha a belief amongst the Christians and other religions in the world. Why can't all cultures adopt the Islamic tradition of gifting children with new clothes and taking them out to restaurants and amusement parks? The government does not encourage Eid as much as it allows public places to be enveloped in Christmas decorations. In France, the Arab communities hold visitations and share in Islamic customs within their brotherhood, whilst around them Christmas carols are sung and the city is embellished in tinsel and goblins, awaiting the arrival of "Santa Claus", or in their terms "Pere Noel." In Dubai, much like Abu Dhabi, hotels and restaurants have special Christmas luncheons. Shops and Malls give away special offers during the 'Festive Season'. There is yet to be established an Eid theme blanketing the cities where Islam is the religion of base, like that of Christmas.
