Background The American College Health AssociationNational College Health Assessment (ACHANCHA) is a recognized research survey used by universities to access the current health status of students. Thus enabling college administrators and educators to provide relevant programming to enhance health promotion and education on college campuses. The ACHA-NCHA provides administrators with health-related information that can be used in a variety of capacities including: •
Designing evidence-based health programming
•
Allocating monetary resources to assist in providing programs for students
•
Providing needs assessment data for various community partners on specific topics such as: sexual assault, eating disorders and alcohol use
The Health Promotion section of the Campus Life Office first administered the ACHA-NCHA in the Fall of 2006. Recently, during the fall 2009 academic semester, students were randomly invited to participate in the National College Health Assessment II (NCHA-II). The following report provides the reader with a brief snapshot of these results as well as discusses programming opportunities for TCU students. 2

Program Highlight: Feed Your Body and Soul Week (FYBSW) The 3rd Annual Feed Your Body and Soul Week: Beauty and Strength are Relative, Health is Universal was a collaborative effort by the Campus Life Office and the Counseling center that offered enlightening opportunities for faculty, staff and students. The week began with training for faculty and staff on Orthorexia, which is an obsession with health foods. The two departments brought community representatives and the Counseling Center Staff together to discuss this newer trend in eating disorders. The entire TCU community was invited as well as Student Affairs Staff for staff development. The Taste of TCU was a first ever food fair that featured a registered dietitian (Jennifer Pereira) who was available to answer any questions participants had about maintaining a healthier lifestyle. Also- the TCU Senior nutrition students played a role in the fair by providing educational materials about "organic" foods and also provided samples for participants. Another highlight of the event was the collaboration with community restaurants that provided free food samples for the TCU community to enjoy- emphasizing the philosophy that there are not any "bad foods". On Wednesday, March 3rd there was an educational opportunity for students- about "Compassion Fatigue: Coping when a friend or a loved one has an eating disorder. A doctor from the Renfrew Center came and spoke about assisting a friend with an eating disorder as well as the treatment process for people with disordered eating concerns. Lastly on Thursday, March 4th the Campus Life Office and the Counseling Center hosted a Student Activities Fair, which consisted of a partnership between the TCU Nutrition Department, Student Activities, and the Alcohol and Drug Education Center. Alcohol screenings were administered as well as various nutrition screenings. Feed Your Body Soul Week is a great partnership between the Campus Life Office and the Counseling Center to bring awareness to the TCU community about body image concerns and disordered eating. By providing innovative and educational programs, our departments are working together to educate the community about resources both on and off campus to turn to in need of assistance with this problem.
