TCU School of Art Presents Enrique Martínez Celaya
Five Projects Since Schneebett Wednesday, April 16 at 7 PM TCU, Moudy Building North, Room 132 2805 South University Drive Fort Worth, TX 76129 Texas Christian University is pleased to welcome Enrique Martínez Celaya, the Cecil and Ida Green Honors Chair for the School of Art. As part of the Green Honors Chair program, designed to bring distinguished scholars, scientists, and writers to the TCU campus, Martínez Celaya will deliver his lecture “Five Projects Since Schneebett” on Wednesday, April 16. The lecture will address the artist’s last five major projects as a basis to discuss his work and his practice. As The New York Times describes, “The questions [Enrique Martínez Celaya] explores in painting (and in his related writings) belong to religion and philosophy: the meaning of life and death, the purpose of consciousness, and what it means to be good or do good.” Enrique Martínez Celaya, trained as artist and physicist, works in painting, sculpture, photography, and writing. His work has been widely exhibited internationally and is also included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, as well as several international museums. Martínez Celaya is a Montgomery Fellow at Dartmouth College and, among other honors, has received the National Artist Award from the Anderson Ranch Arts Center, the Knight Arts Foundation Grant, and the J. Paul Getty Trust Fund for Visual Arts. In 2013, Ediciones Polígrafa (Spain) published Enrique Martínez Celaya: Working methods/Métodos de trabajo a comprehensive study of Martínez Celaya’s work process. Radius Books (Santa Fe, New Mexico) published Enrique Martínez Celaya: The Pearl documenting the exhibition of The Pearl at SITE Santa Fe. Contact TCU School of Art at 817.257.7643 for more information.
